Colorado’s Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) Initiative Senate Bill 09-256 By September, 2011, all students , grades 9-12 would have access to a system within their high school to create and manage an ICAP. The legislation specifies that at a minimum, each ICAP shall include: The student’s effort in exploring careers, including interest surveys that the student completes; The student’s academic process, including the courses taken, any remediation or credit recovery, and any concurrent enrollment credits earned; The student’s experiences in contextual and service learning; The student’s college application and resume, as they are prepared and submitted; and The student’s postsecondary studies as the student progresses.

Individual Career and Academic Plans

The intent of the Individual Career and Academic Plans is to:

1. Decrease the dropout rates and increase graduation rates by

assisting students in developing and maintaining a personalized

postsecondary plan;

2. Assist parents and students in exploring the postsecondary career

and educational opportunities available to the student; and

3. Align course work and curriculum to the students’ postsecondary

goals.
