“…for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

I. The “Power of Darkness” On Mankind. A. God’s relationship to darkness .

1. God is removed from darkness (1 John 1:5).2. No communion between light and darkness

(2 Corinthians 6:14).3. Life is a battle between the forces of light and

darkness (Ephesians 6:11-12).

1. Those who don’t do God’s will “walk in darkness” (1 John 2:7-11).

1. God calls sinners out of darkness into His light (1 Peter 2:9).

“Light of life.”1. If one follows Jesus he may have the light of

life (John 8:12).2. The purpose of the gospel is to call people

III. Christians’ Responsibility to Darkness.A. Christians must flee darkness.

1. Christians mustn’t associate with “works of darkness” (Ephesians 5:11).

2. Christians must cast off the “works of darkness” (Rom. 13:12).

3. Those who believe in Christ can’t abide in darkness (John 12:46).

1. Darkness may overtake a person (John 12:35).
