Colossians 2.7

Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught,

and you will overflow with thankfulness.

Colossians 3.8,9a But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious

behavior, slander, and dirty language. 9Don’t lie to each other…

A simple question: Does anger, rage, maliciousness, slander, raunchy words, and lying fortify relationships with health or do these social sins tear people apart? Do they enhance or diminish?

1. Anger – the word here is deep, smoldering, and resentful bitterness. 2. Rage – This is the outburst of anger. Rage means, “I am going public with

my anger.” 3. Malicious behavior – This emotion is: “I am going to hurt you with my

words.” 4. Slander – I will hurt you with my words.

James 3,9.10 Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God. 10And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!

Regardless of how spiritual we think we are, or how sound our doctrine may be, or how well we think we know the truths of the Bible, if we slander people, we’re delusional about the depth of our maturity as a Christian.

5. Dirty Language – This refers to obscene and derogatory language intended

to hurt. The actual translation is “foul mouthed.”

6. Lying – Self-explanatory.

4. Are there _______________that I need to make things right with today?

Dear God, I know that I am on the wrong path. I admit that I am a sinner on the road headed away from You. I want to turn around and journey with You on the road to eternal life. I know that I cannot do that by myself. I know that You sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins. Right now, I trust in Jesus as the only One who can provide true life, the life that is found in You. I trust in Jesus as the One who did for me what I cannot do for myself. I trust in Jesus as the only One who can place me in an eternal relationship with You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

“When the child of God looks into the Word of God and sees the

Son of God, he is changed by the Spirit of God into the image of

God for the Glory of God.” Warren W. Wiersbe
