Congratulations to American Ordnance, who was recently named 2018 Manufacturer of the Year by the Greater Burlington Partnership! American Ordnance has been producing ammunition for the U.S. Military for over 75 years. With various awarded contracts in development and production, American Ordnance has been able to add 107 new full‐time positions to their growing organization in the past year. This year they have begun production on the 40mm Day Night Thermal high velocity training round. This awarded design con‐tract, along with a multi‐year production contract, has enabled them to add one production shift, a second shift to begin soon, and an additional third shift in 2019. In the year 2020, along with Orbital ATK, they will begin production on the all new Advanced Multi‐Purpose (AMP) 120mm Tank Fired High Explosive Round.
The Manufacturers Appreciation Luncheon was held at the Pzazz! Entertainment Complex with over 230 Chamber of Commerce members in attendance. The award was presented by Debbie Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. Again, congratulations to American Ordnance on a well‐deserved award!

2018 Wounded Warrior Hunt On October 16 and 17, 2018, the Iowa Army Ammuni on Plant (IAAAP), along with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), conducted a Wounded Warrior Deer Hunt. Eight Wounded Warriors par cipated in the hunt, with five of the eight being successful harves ng four bucks and one doe. The Department of the Army and the State of Iowa take pride in their support for America’s Wounded Warriors.
IAAAP is home to two bats, the Indiana bat and the Northern Long‐eared bat. It’s that me of year again, how well do you know your bats?
The Indiana bat is quite small, weighing only one‐quarter of an ounce (about the weight of three pennies), although in flight they have a wingspan of 9‐11 inches! They were listed as endangered in 1967 due to episodes of people disturbing hiberna ng bats in caves during winter, resul ng in the death of a large number of bats. Other threats that have
contributed to their decline include commercializa on of caves, loss of summer habitats, and the disease white‐nose syndrome. The Northern Long‐eared bat is a medium sized bat about 3‐3.7 inches in length but with a wingspan of 9‐10 inches. They were listed as threatened in 2015 due to white‐nose syndrome, a fungal disease that is known to affect bats. (www.iowadnr.gov)
