Introduction
Capital Hotel School and Training Academy (CHS) opened its doors in January 2001 to provide all-
round training in Hospitality Management and in 2007 expanded its scope to include Professional
Cookery.
CHS prides itself on its high standards of excellence and growing reputation within the hospitality
industry. Capital Hotel School has created a unique atmosphere of collaboration, mutual support and
genuine interest in each other’s success. Our diverse mix of cultures, races and experiences provides
a variety of perspectives and talents that, when united through teamwork, strengthens our ability to
achieve our goals.
Strategy
To further expand our education and training footprint in South Africa and neighbouring countries,
powered by technology and delivered by the best facilitators, formally entering into select strategic
partnerships with companies and accreditation bodies who can associate themselves with our
purpose and values.
Purpose of CHS
• To offer relevant and current accredited hospitality education and training programmes,
presented by skilled facilitators using the latest technology, to school leavers and employed
staff empowering them to excel in the workplace;
• To provide a rewarding and enjoyable work environment to the company’s employees at all
levels and ensure continuous and appropriate development of their personal and
organisational skills;
• To ensure that the owners and their affiliates subscribe to a high code of ethics, and are
passionate in their calling to lead the company to prosperity;
• Identify and invest in community projects involved in uplifting the youth and that protect and
assist animals in need;
• To promote a greener civilisation by saving electricity, reduce printing, stop wastage and
buying from sustainable practices that don’t harm the environment – We do not inherit the

On-the-job-training in the Workplace for Full-time Students
As a result of our high standards and industry recognition, we are one of the very few tertiary
institutions able to guarantee practical training at leading, full-service hospitality institutions and top
restaurants in and around Pretoria.
This training takes place under close supervision and according to a roster to complement the
theoretical training. CHS takes full responsibility for the placing, rotating and rostering of our students
and monitors their evaluation and progress during their practical training off campus.

Vocational Qualifications related to the Hospitality industry are incorporated in our
learner programmes.

The Capital Hotel School and Training Academy is accredited with CATHSSETA
(Culture, Arts, Tourism, Hospitality & Sport Sector Education and Training Authority).
QCTO
The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) is a Quality Council
established in 2010 in terms of the Skills Development Act.
Its role is to oversee the design, implementation, assessment and certification
of occupational qualifications on the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework (OQSF).
Registered as a Skills Development Provider (SDP 1220/16/038) for Occupational Certificate: Chef
(Qualification code: 94941) for a duration of five years.
Chaîne des Rôtisseurs
CHS has been awarded a Blazon by the Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs – an
international society devoted to choice dining and the camaraderie of the table. Chaîne
des Rôtisseurs creates bonds of friendship across cultures and boundaries. It promotes
the art of fine cuisine amongst both amateur and professional gastronomes and supports the
development of young culinary professionals.
The Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET)
This qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll
explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while
also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings. Upon
successful completion (70% pass rate), you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.
First Aid Training
CHS provides an outsourced course in First Aid on a Level One grade which enables learners to
provide first aid before paramedics or an ambulance arrives at an accident scene in the workplace or
in public areas. This course is based on theory and practical demonstrations.
South African Board for People Practices (SABPP)
The Capital Hotel School and Training Academy (CHS) is an accredited member of the
South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).
COMPANY PROFILE 7
Being the very first hotel school and hospitality management training establishment in South Africa to
obtain accreditation from SABPP, CHS clearly distinguishes itself in the market. The accreditation
applies to certain Human Resource Management modules which is presented by accredited facilitators.
Council on Higher Education (CHE)
Capital Hotel School have applied for accreditation by the Council on Higher Education and Training
and are awaiting feedback from their Board regarding our course material which was submitted in May
2017.

Our campus environment encourages
social interaction and practical learning
experiences. Furthermore, it ensures
learning excellence, which has always
been the essence of CHS.
Our lecture rooms, demonstration,
pastry and main kitchens have all been
custom-built and are fitted and
constantly upgraded with the latest
technology and equipment. The outside recreational area and tuck shop (Tuck Inn) are well patronised
by the students during breaks and other social activities.
Our function facilities can accommodate small conferences/seminars as well as food and beverage
functions, which further complement the practical experience of the learners under the supervision of
our lecturers and staff.
Parking / Security
Fifty-five secure parking bays (twenty-two in the basement) are available on campus. We also provide
our own 24-hour security on the premises. Additional secure parking is available on the adjacent
property, recently acquired by CHS.
Administration Offices
The double storey house, which was built in 1935 for the Chairman of Barclays Bank, has been
restored to its former glory. It houses the administration offices and a well-fitted boardroom with its
own private lounge that can be used for smaller seminars and conferences.

NORTH-WEST CAMPUS
The North-West campus of CHS situated on the Hunters Rest Estate is nestled between the
Magalies Mountains, 12km from Rustenburg, only one and a half hour’s drive from Johannesburg
and Pretoria.
The official launch date is 7 September 2017.
It consists of a spacious training kitchen, 2 lecture rooms, recreational area, restaurant / bar facility,
open air veranda overlooking the golf course, reception and office space.
