Laboratory facilities The GCC Laboratory will consist of three distinc-tive laboratories: High Voltage, high power and low voltage laborato-ries, in addition to many other necessary laboratories to complete the required tests such as mechanical, chemical, materials testing and cali-bration and others.
1- High Voltage Laboratory (HV(: The HV lab will be equipped with high voltage sources and testing halls of suitable dimensions for testing me-dium and high voltage electrical equipment with rated voltages up to 420 kV. The HV Lab will offer comprehensive testing facilities for most of the electrical equipment including insulators, transformers, switchgear, cables, & cable accessories. The Lab will be capable of performing the required type, special and routine tests as per relevant local and inter-national standards. The primary testing facilities are:
2-High Power Laboratory (HP(: The HP laboratory will be initially equipped with two short-circuit generators, with the future addition of 3rd generator. The Lab will be capable of providing short time current tests for medium and high voltage switchgear, breakers, cables, trans-formers and others for equipment frequencies of 50 and 60 Hz.
The HP Lab facilities will have the following capabilities:
3-Low Voltage Lab (LV(: The LV laboratory will be capable of perform-ing all required safety, acceptance, efficiency and performance tests for household appliances such as air-conditioning, refrigerators, food freezers, cooking and heating appliances, washing appliances and mi-crowave ovens and other products. The tests will include measure-ments of voltages, currents, resistance, electrical power, electrical en-ergy, temperatures, distances, thicknesses, masses, forces, dielectric strength, mechanical strength, abnormal operation and flammability of plastic materials. The LV laboratory will have the capability to perform a test of appliances with supply voltages 110-240 Volt, single phase 50 or 60 Hz and 400-460 Volts, three phase 50 or 60 Hz.
