About Us

Simpkins Kenny Ltd was formed in September 1998 through an expansion of operations

and a name change of the original company (formed in 1992). For the first twelve years, we

successfully operated in the historical market town of Brigg, but have recently moved to

larger offices in Immingham, to not only maintain our much valued links with our existing

clients, but also to further develop the opportunities and relationships with businesses based

along the Humber Bank. Since formation, we have been delighted with our involvement in

many projects throughout the United Kingdom and indeed, in the European Union and

beyond.

The practice, although small, has extensive experience in most fields of Structural and Civil

Engineering and we are happy to provide our services on individual dwellings through to

multi-million pound projects.

Our company recognises the needs of all the stakeholders including clients, employees and

fellow professionals. The company management comprises fully qualified Chartered or

Incorporated Engineers, and being a young and progressive organisation our technical

expertise is enjoyed by all of our clients, whether large and small, on each individual project

on a direct basis, with a Director assigned to every project.

There is a standing invitation to all of our existing or potential clients to visit our offices to

meet our staff, inspect our facilities or discuss any individual project needs.

As designers we are fully aware of our duties under the “Construction (Design &

Management) Regulations” - CDM 2007 and the Practice operates management and internal

quality systems to implement these regulations and other statutory obligations in

conjunction with in-house Quality Assurance procedures.

Simpkins Kenny Ltd have been involved in a wide variety of projects in the Leisure Sector ranging from multi-million pound hotel developments and public houses, sports facilities and Theme Park ride foundations. We have also been involved with smaller fairground ride superstructure designs (such as ‘Flying Elephants’ and ‘Junior Skydiver’ rides) for younger children.

Simpkins Kenny Ltd have been involved in many Hospital projects including the secure unit at Rampton in Nottinghamshire. We have been pleased to provide advice on the support of intricate medical equipment within Buildings through to new facilities with construction costs in excess of £1.0 million. We have also provided full structural design and detailing services on several Care Homes and Child Development facilities.

Simpkins Kenny Ltd provide a wide variety of structural design and detailing services to our local heavy industrial and petrochemical clients, with whom we have developed many sound working partnerships. These relationships have allowed us to expand our services provision to some substantial projects further afield. We are proud of our expertise in structural steelwork (including complex connections) and reinforced concrete design alike and our ability to provide cost effective solutions on even the larger projects.

Simpkins Kenny Ltd have been involved in a large variety of residential projects from individual dwellings to relatively large estates. We have enjoyed successful working relationships with Barratt York, Keigar Homes, Alaway Construction and numerous local building organisations. We also provide design advice and inspection services to local housing associations such as Shoreline in North East Lincolnshire.

Schools in North and North East Lincolnshire. Over the years we have provided design services for many schools (ostensibly Primary Schools in the North Lincolnshire areas). Although these projects have been relatively small, ranging for classroom extensions through to advice on ‘earthquake’ damage, we are very proud of the respected and valued relationships that we have developed with our Local Authorities and this is an area of service provision that we are keen to develop.

Specialist Services

Whilst much of our business is associated with new build or the refurbishment of existing facilities, we are also Panel Engineers for a major loss adjusting organisation in connection with subsidence related insurance claims. With the recent rising popularity of timber frame sustainable construction, we are happy to provide design services for high density accommodation and one-off luxury developments alike. We are registered NHBC Certified Timber Frame Designers and we have a much valued relationships with several timber frame suppliers operated throughout the United Kingdom. We also offer design services to many steelwork fabricators, including simple portal frame connections, intricate architectural details through to substantial heavy industrial steelwork jointing arrangements.

We are of course happy to discuss any specific structural design requirement, intricate or otherwise.

Design audit for the principal superstructure nodes on the Heathrow T5 project, for Corus.

We are also proud to provide structural design checking services for the Building Control Department at North Lincolnshire Council and this has been a successful working relationship for some ten years.

Health and Safety Simpkins Kenny Ltd have an uncompromising approach to Health and Safety. Our industry has one of the worst accident and fatality records of any and this is not only due to the type of work involved, but it has also unfortunately been attributable to past nonchalance towards even the most basic aspects of health and safety. Thankfully attitudes have been changing in recent years, partially due to the introduction of the CDM regulations, which rightly passes an obligation onto us as designers to carry out our work in a responsible manner, but also as a consequence of increased unacceptability on a societal level. Whilst as a company, we are aware of our professional and environmental obligations, we believe that the welfare of all persons likely to be affected as we carry out our business is of paramount importance and it is for this reason that we operate the following Health and Safety Policy as a minimum Simpkins Kenny Ltd will: Comply with all Health and Safety Legislation that is relevant to our business as a minimum. Positively seek to identify and assess all significant risks to Health and Safety. Eliminate these risks and/or introduce appropriate control measures. Involve and consult all of the stakeholders in our business, especially our employees. Provide effective training to all employees and others under our control. Keep up to date with Health and Safety developments. Continually strive to improve our Health and Safety performance and knowledge. Maintain appropriate Health and Safety records. Provide adequate resources to ensure that our Health and Safety system is implemented. Ensure all of our employees are aware and informed of our Health and Safety System. Environmental Simpkins Kenny Ltd always seek to enhance the quality of services that we provide and the efficiency and efficacy of our business. The Construction Industry is responsible for effective and sustainable use of natural resources and we as a company can make significant beneficial environmental impact with efficient and considerate design methodology. We consistently strive for the highest standards in this respect and indeed all aspects of our work.
