About the Presenter James Finley, PhD lived as a Trappist monk at the Gethsemani Monastery in Kentucky where the world renowned monk and author Thomas Merton was his spiritual director. Currently, Dr. Finley is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Finley is presently writing a book version of this retreat at the request of Sounds True Publishing Company. Retreat Description A retreat experience exploring a contemplative approach to healing trauma and all forms of suffering. Emphasis will be given to grounding the healing process in the love and compassion that flows within the contemplative experience of ourselves and others as precious in our fragility. Attention will be given to the rewarding and challenging process of forming new paradigms of healing that integrate sound clinical practice and empirical research with the ancient wisdom of the contemplative traditions. Time will be given for silent reflection, group meditation and discussion of the themes presented. the root of suffering in its origins Grounding sound clinical practice in the path of

compassionate love that heals the roots of suffering that has found its way into our mind and heart

Part II, offered October 14-16, 2011, requires a separate registration and will be open only to those who have attended Part I.

Retreat Fee Part I - $240Includes Friday dinner; Saturday lunch, dinner; Sunday lunch; nonrefundable processing fee of $50; and a certificate of completion along with 1.3 CEUs.

Cancellations before Tuesday April 13, 2011 will be refunded the entire retreat fee less $50. No refunds will be made after that unless the spot can be filled.

MiscellaneousPlease dress in comfortable clothing as there will be opportunities to enjoy the outside environment. There will be times dedicated to silence, rest and self-reflection. There will also be times for conversations and group dialogue.
