ENGINE DESIGN
DIESEL ENGINE EXHAUST BRAKE
The Hino 195 is equipped with an engine exhaust brake as a standard feature, at no additional charge. The exhaust brake extends the life of the service brakes dramatically by using engine compression to slow the vehicle. The TerraStar does not oer the exhaust brake as standard.
Hino’s J05E-TP engine is legendary for durability, reliability and eciency. Its dry sleeve engine design makes overhaul relatively simple and cost eective. By comparison, TerraStar’s MaxxForce 7 bore-in-block design means that any cylinder damage will render the engine non-repairable. Complete engine replacement is very costly. TerraStar also uses a twin turbo design, again adding cost in the event of failure.
THE HINO 195’S STANDARD EXHAUST BRAKE EXTENDS SERVICE BRAKE LIFE TO KEEP DRIVERS ON THE ROAD AND OUT OF THE SHOP… ADVANTAGE HINO.
LIGHTER CHASSIS WEIGHT
The chassis weight of the Hino 195 is substantially lighter than that of the TerraStar even with the same GVWR of 19,500 lbs. The lighter chassis means that the Hino 195 can carry as much as 1,236 lbs. more payload than the TerraStar.
A LIGHT CHASSIS WEIGHT IS AN IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION FOR CUSTOMERS THAT OPERATE IN JURISDICTIONS THAT ENFORCE CHASSIS WEIGHT REGULATIONS … ADVANTAGE HINO.
HINO HAS A DURABLE, LOW MAINTENANCE COST ENGINE THAT MAXIMIZES PRODUCTIVITY AND PROVIDES OWNERS WITH PEACE OF MIND … ADVANTAGE HINO.

SCR SYSTEM MASSIVE EGR SYSTEM VERSUS SELECTIVE CATALYTIC REDUCTION (SCR) TECHNOLOGY
Hino has chosen the SCR technology to reduce NOX levels. SCR uses Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) and a catalytic converter to meet the new emission regulations. The TerraStar uses the Massive EGR system. Following Hino’s extensive research and testing, SCR oers the following advantages compared to an EGR-only system:
Points of Comparison SCR System Massive EGR System
Complies with EPA10 Regulations without the use of Emission Credits
Improved Engine Performance and Fuel Economy
Near Zero Emissions; Better for the Environment
Preferred Solution by most Truck Manufacturers
Proven Technology (>600,000 trucks and buses in Europe)
SCR System
FUEL ECONOMY AFFECTS YOUR BOTTOM LINE. DIESEL PRICES ARE HIGH AND MAINTENANCE IS EXPENSIVE. RUNNING A FLEET OF TRUCKS WITH BETTER FUEL ECONOMY IS A MUST. HINO’S SCR SOLUTION OFFERS BETTER FUEL ECONOMY AND LESS DPF MAINTENANCE, SAVING YOU MONEY … ADVANTAGE HINO.

CAB VISIBILITY
MANOEUVRABILITY
A shorter turning radius improves manoeuvrability and gives Hino the advantage getting in and out of tight locations. The Hino 195 is redening the urban driving experience, with a turning radius of 18.4’ (CA 92.2”), while the TerraStar has a turning radius of 22.3’ (CA 60”).
The Hino 195 can turn in a much smaller area than the TerraStar. In tight spaces the TerraStar has to back up frequently to make it around a sharp corner.
The Hino 195 uses narrow A-pillars and the design of the side view door mirrors helps to enhance the driver’s line of sight. The larger windshield, including larger side windows and mirrors on the Hino 195, oers superior visibility. The TerraStar does not oer the same visibility advantage.
CAB ENTRY/EXIT – ACCESS
Getting in and out of a Hino during a busy delivery schedule takes minimal eort. The Hino 195 doors open a full 80 degrees, giving you plenty of room plus convenient interior grab handles for smooth and easy cab entry/exit. The TerraStar doors open only 60 degrees, making entry/exit limited.
QUIETER CAB
The Hino 195 was designed to provide the driver with a comfortable quiet cab ride. At 60 km/hr. the Hino rated 95.6 dB, the TerraStar rated 104.4 dB.
DRIVERS KNOW THAT THE MANOEUVRABILITY ON TIGHT URBAN ROADS MEANS GETTING THE JOB DONE QUICKLY AND DONE SAFELY ... ADVANTAGE HINO.
SUPERIOR VISIBILITY GIVES THE HINO DRIVER CONFIDENCE TO MANOEUVER IN TIGHT URBAN SPACES … ADVANTAGE HINO.
Hino’s cab over design provides a clear and unobstructed view to the road surface. The TerraStar’s long hood reduces visibility to the road. In the Hino 195 objects can be seen as close as 360 cm whereas with the TerraStar the dimension is 730 cm.
QUIETER CABS REDUCES DRIVER FATIGUE WHICH INCREASES DRIVER PRODUCTIVITY AND SAFETY … ADVANTAGE HINO.
