Compressed Air DryersHigh efficiency direct expansion dryersfor ultimate performance and reliability

The principles of operationWet compressed air enters thedryer and is directed to the singlemonobloc plate heat exchangers. The air entering is cooled downby the outgoing cold and driedair which reduces the load on therefrigeration compressor, savingenergy costs. The air now passes tothe “air to refrigerant”heat exchangerwhich reduces itstemperature to thepre-set dew point(normally +3°C)where water dropletsform. All thecondensedmoisture isseparated fromthe air in the highefficiency waterseparator whereit is dischargedto a drain.

Finally, the cool and dry air isreheated by thermally mixing itwith the incoming air that alsoreduces its relative humidity, thuspreventing pipework corrosionand annoying condensation onthe downstream pipework.

Water - theessence of life, curse of thepneumaticsindustry!

Why is water so much a

poison to industrial

compressed air users, and

where does it come from?

Water in a compressor

system is simply a

nuisance. It makes things

rust, causes seizures,

washes away lubricant

from air tools, causes

inaccuracies and much

more, resulting in product

wastage inconvenient

malfunctions and costly

downtime.

This water comes from the

air that originally entered

the compressor. Although

it entered as a harmless

vapour, it changes its state

during compression and

aftercooling resulting in

water droplets forming

which in turn causes all

the associated problems.

Installing a Rep Air dryer

within the process will

prevent these costly

diseases by eliminating

almost all of the harmful

water and return only

clean and dry air into the

network which will ensure

the plant can operate

efficiently and reliably with

minimal running costs.

The Rep Air range:

simplicity, efficiency

and reliability using

modern concepts in

air drying

Many refrigerated dryers maylook the same but the new Rep Air range is far from beingjust another dryer. The use of thelatest, and highly efficient, stainless steel plate type heatexchangers, designed into arefined package, results in adryer that has an excellentperformance, is simple tooperate and will keep doing itsjob reliably for many years. All this from such a compactcabinet.

The Rep Air series : small in size but awealth of features

• High performance

• Low running costs

• Reliable in service

• Simple to operate

• Built to last

• Compact design

• Service friendly

• Environmentally friendly

High performanceUsing the latest designs of platecoolers (which are a fifth of the sizeof the old “shell and tube” types forthe same capacity), combined withproven direct expansion refrigerationtechnology, produces a dryer withultra high performance under alloperating conditions.

Low running costsIn order to minimise any additionalload on the air compressor, carefulattention has been paid to reducingpressure losses. This, together withthe use of high efficiency heatexchangers and separators, hasbeen a design priority to ensure lowrunning costs.

Reliable in serviceThe use of a reliable control valve in awell designed refrigeration circuiteliminates any risk of freeze-ups.Additionally, the use of fewersoldered joints or couplings meansthat there is less chance of refrigerantleakage - less service calls!

Simple to operateSimplicity is a key to reliability. The Rep Air range uses proven, easyto read instrumentation – nogimmicks, just what’s needed. Onceconnected to the system dry air isthere at the press of switch.

Built to lastThe dryer is built by dedicatedcraftsmen. The quality standards wefollow to ensure consistent reliabilityare in accordance with ISO 9001.

Compact designCombining the monobloc heatexchanger with a cleverly laid outinterior, has allowed the entire dryerto be shrunk compared toconventional dryers saving valuablefloor space.

Service friendlyJust like the reliability of a domesticrefrigerator, the Rep Air dryer willrequire virtually no maintenance –only routine checks. All serviceableitems are located in convenientpositions.

Environmentally friendlyThe Rep Air dryers use only R134aor R407C refrigerants (CFC free),which fully complies with the latestlegislation.

Reference Conditions

Inlet compressed air pressure: 7 barg

Inlet compressed air temperature: 35ºC @ 100% RH

Ambient air temperature: 25ºC

Capacity correction for various operating conditions

Example of dryer selection:Which dryer is required to handle the following worst case conditions?

Maximum compressed air flow of 12 m3/min.

Lowest operating pressure of 10 barg.

Maximum air inlet temperature of 40ºC.

Maximum ambient air temperature of 35ºC.

Corrected Capacity is:

Actual Capacity / (Pc * Ic * Ac). = 12 m3/min / (1.09 * 0.89 * 0.9) = 13.74 m3/min.

Dryer Selection is: H11 for a 3ºC PDP.

General Information • Operating pressure range: 2 to 16 barg

• Maximum inlet air temperature: 55ºC

• Ambient temperature range: 0ºC to 43ºC (47ºC option)

• A full range of high performance oil removal and particle filters are also available to suit each dryer
