Need for Lighting Controls

Lighting 18-20%

Other ( HVAC, UPS)

80-82%

Lighting can be greatest opportunity for energy savings

Lighting consumes 18-20% of the annual electricity used in office building

Lighting controls can cut this cost by 30-40%

Sensing Technology

Passive Infrared Sensing• Electronic Sensor constantly tracks the displacement of Infrared

heat generated by human body in the area and based on this tracking controls lighting system

• Advantages

§ PIR sensor would detect only movement of human being in area. It fails to detect spurious movement signals generated by ventilation, running machinery, movement of animals (cold body)

Sensing TechnologyMicrowave Sensing• In this technique, microwave radar is used to monitor space for

movement.

• This involves transmitting a very low power microwave signals and examining the reflected signal for frequency variations called “Doppler Shifts”

• Advantages

§ Highest detection area

§ Sensitivity is extremely high

§ Can be used for directional sensing, hence suitable for long narrow areas

Presence detection• Detectors will switch on lig hting

automa tically when person enters room

• Detectors switches off lighting automa tica lly when no movement detected

Detection Methods

Absence detection• User will switch On lights ma nually upon

entering room

• Detectors switches off lighting automa tica lly when no movement detected

Presence detectors can help you meet energy reduction targets in new and existing building

Daylight Control

Daylight control can be achieved by

§ Switching photocell

§ Regulating photocell

• Switching photocell

o Photocell checks available daylight in area and if sufficient daylight is present, then lights would be switched off

• Regulating photocell

o Photocell checks available daylight in area and regulates lighting to obtain constant lighting level

Architectural Dimming

Architectural dimming control offers….

è The ability to create customer specific lighting conditions depending on application

è Precise control of lighting in any area without need for numerous rotary dimmers and separate switches

è Controls all modern light sources like GLS/HL/1-10 V/DSI/DALI

è Slowly fades between lighting scenes-eyes have time to comfortably adjust

è Integrates easily with touch screens and AV equipments
