Both First Communion and Mother’s Day are just around the corner, and if you’relooking for a perfect present, stop in at Gifts of Faith. Our new religious shop
opened in November, and it’s packed to the rafters with rosaries and medals, holy cardsand Bibles, crosses and statues. You can even pick up a First Communion veil.
“I was inspired!” says parishionerSherry Krasula, who proposed thereligious store to Fr. Don after visiting asimilar shop in a Miami church. “It wasnot just a gift shop, it was a place ofinspiration, of sharing and spiritualideas, and I thought we could do thathere at St. Peter’s, too. And now, that isexactly what is happening.”
Fr. Don gave his blessing, and Sherry’smom, parishioner Delores Solomon, joined in to recruit parish financeminister Giovanna Christian to thecause. Fellow parishioners MaureenFlanagan, Renee Lencki and TinaMcDonald also signed on to help get theshop up and running. After just fiveweeks, with hundreds of religious itemson the shelves, Gifts of Faith opened thedoor to its first customers.
“The most popular items are the very affordable religious medals and chains,” Sherrysays. “And if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we can special-order it for you.”Parishioners routinely pack the tiny shop, and lines move quickly. Sales so far just covercosts, but Krasula says they hope to break even by the end of the year. “Part of theproceeds will go to outreach programs in our community.”
Gifts of Faith is open half an hour before and after every weekend Mass. The shop islocated just inside St. Peter’s main church entrance, through the first door on the left. Itis staffed completely by volunteers, and new helpers are welcome.

The Mission Ministry at St. Peter wasformed to respond to the great need
created after the devastating effects ofHurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast.Through the timely generosity of manyparishioners from St. Peter we were able torespond and help those in need, specificallyby assisting families displaced from NewOrleans. With the welcoming of our Hispaniccommunity, we have also grown in ourawareness of the situations which they comefrom, especially in Guatemala. This has led usto form a “sister Parish” relationship with SanMiguel Catholic Church in San MiguelIxtahuacan, Guatemala. The goals of ourministry are to:
• Share our blessings with others and in theprocess grow in our awareness that we areall members of the Body of Christ.
• Empower others with self-confidence andself-sufficiency.
• Advocate for the poor, the under-privileged, and those who canfor themselves.
• Learn the joy of generosity.
• Learn the culture and values of those weminister to and grow in our understandingand world view.
• Educate and share our experiences withothers.

Parish HappeningsA NOTE FROM FR. DONSoon the Church willcelebrate the holiestday of the entireyear; Easter Sunday.Easter is so special forChristians around theworld because withoutthe Resurrection noneof us would be hisdisciples. Without theResurrection, Jesus
would be just a small footnote in history as aman who lived long ago, gathered somefollowers and was known as a great teacher andmiracle worker. What we celebrate at Easter, isthat Jesus is the Son of God, who came andtook on our humanity to show us the face ofGod, to hear God’s voice and to experienceHis love and mercy to show us the way. TheResurrection gives us new life, offers us theforgiveness of sins, and shows us how much Godloves us.
As a community of faith at St. Peter, we gather asGod’s family to grow deeper in our relationshipwith Christ, supported by other people in faithto live as disciples of Jesus Christ our Lord!Nourished with the Body of Christ in theEucharist, and strengthened with His Words inScripture, we are enabled to go out and to livethe Gospel with our lives.
I invite you to “dive in” deep with your faith. It isthe path to true peace, happiness and joy.
May God Bless you abundantly,
Rev. Donald T. FinneyPastor
