A Structured Approach to Training With UniSim eLearn we combine OTS and
other online learning methods for more

Making the best use of trainees’ time, courses build
and test foundation skills using tools including
interactive question and answer sessions and

Learn Smarter and Faster Effective training to develop competent operators is essential to safe, efficient operations. According to the Abnormal Situations Management Consortium, 40 per cent of incident losses are attributable to human error. Another 40 per cent come from equipment failures, often the result of poor practice.
A Case Study…To deal with an upset condition, operators must learn four skills:
• Fault detection—understanding the normal values of process parameter, their ranges and associated alarm limits
• Fault diagnosis, through learning the plant’s process and control interactions
• Planning corrective actions to address the problem identified
• Executing corrective actions safely to restore the process unit to normal operating conditions.
For the first two skills, OTS will not be the most appropriate tool. These can be taught effectively with interactive question and answer tools to familiarize trainees with fault detection, and cause and effect relationship training modules to teach and illustrate process interactions.
OTS is then used to test and develop application of this knowledge in planning and executing appropriate control responses.
