Giving to Bishop Kelley is a personal thing as most gifts to BK come from the heart. Either the alumnus who is giving had a great

experience while a student at BK, or he or she recognizes the need for a Catholic, diocesan high school in Tulsa to remain a strong

force for generations to come. It’s the same for current or alumni parents who give as they recognize what BK has done for their

children and may possibly do for their grandchildren someday.

This past summer, we finished a $2.1M project to put geothermal energy in half of our campus facilities. That couldn’t have been

accomplished without help from the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Oklahoma or the three-year pledges that so many of you

have made and will complete in 2015.

There’s brand new furniture and furnishings in the Admissions/Guidance area and in the main building faculty and staff lounge

thanks to a donor family that saw the need. They even gifted a new tile floor, new cabinetry, and other improvements for the

lounge which provides a great respite for our faculty and staff who often spend very long hours on the BK campus.

A new lighting system in the chapel was gifted by a family that feels strongly about the upkeep of our campus worship space.

And what makes their gift even better is that the new lights are so much more energy efficient than the old system; thus,

lowering operating costs just like our geothermal system.

Several donors stepped up and funded trees and crepe myrtles that will be full of BK-red blooms next fall. Some of these trees

were planted in honor of former students who are now deceased. Other donors provided new campus signage which has

benefited first-time visitors on a daily basis.

Recently, we put together a proposal for a grandparent of current BK students to consider funding a second Robotics team at BK

including all of the necessary equipment; in addition, the proposal called for the donor to fund equipment that BK will place at

diocesan elementary schools to establish new, or bolster existing robotics teams at the middle and even elementary school level.

Thankfully, the donor agreed to make the $73,000 gift needed to make this project a reality over the next few months.

As more and more students become involved in BK’s very strong Fine Arts program, it became apparent to us that better lighting

and sound systems were needed for the theater along with a host of many other upgrades that will benefit our students who are

performing and their teachers as well. The $67,000 project was presented to a donor who agreed to fund half of it as long we

secured the other half matched by other Bk supporters. We did that, and thanks to many of you, our students will put on five

performances of Cinderella in late January with a host of new features.

As you can tell by reading this, there are many needed improvements across the campus; whether it’s planting more trees that

will provide shade enjoyed by other generations, or much-needed upgrades to athletics facilities which are currently underway,

or new gifts to help grow our endowment that can be channeled to such things as named tuition assistance funds, the needs are

many.

Hopefully you’ve noticed the physical plant improvements that have been made, are aware of the ones that still need to be

made, and are willing to utilize your connections in the community as well as your own personal resources to help make future

improvements for our students and the students to come.

And please don’t forget about our endowment, gifts to tuition assistance for our needier families, and planned gifts

through your estates that can benefit BK many years down the road. We’ve secured just over $2M in planned gifts

over the past 18 months and I know we have the affinity among the BK community to secure that much and more

over the next 18 months.

So thank you for recognizing the need to support BK in so many different ways. And thank you especially for

answering the call from student or parent callers who are soliciting gifts for annual fund, for reading emails asking

you to provide support to BK, and for contacting Father and me without being asked and offering your support. It’s

the wonderful response from you that makes Bishop Kelley such a special place.

Some statistics of note to you:

Only about 3.5% of BK alumni give back to the school annually. That’s the lowest of all Catholic high schools in

Oklahoma and well below the national average at other top Catholic High Schools.

While our oldest alumni are now in their 70’s as we finish our 55th year of existence, the total gifts made to BK by

parents of alumni far outpaces overall giving from alumni.

Just over 50% of all parents of current students at BK typically give to the annual fund (Believe in Kelley) each

year. Last year’s annual fund provided our students with six new buses including a first-ever coach bus along

with substantial support for tuition assistance.

Over 90% of our faculty and staff make monetary gifts to BK annually.

All members of BK’s Advisory Council give back to the school each year, with a record $140,000 in gifts coming

from last year’s Advisory Council members.

Thank you to all those that continue to generously donate to Bishop Kelley!
