Special General MeetingThe secretary would like to give members notice of a Special General Meeting (SGM) of Scale Models Wellington IPMS, to be held at 8pm on 28 September 2016 at Petone Working Men’s Club.

Agenda:1. Election of new Committee Members

Due to not filling the vacant position of Secretary, and the resignation of a committee member, we are two members short for the club committee.

2. Amendment to the Constitution

Section 7. Officers paragraph (a) currently reads:

Committee Members - at least 4

Proposal to change last item to read:

Committee Members - minimum of one, maximum of four

End of notice.The SGM will be part of the normal club meeting, it would be really helpful if as many people can make it as possible. If you’re interested in volunteering for the committee, please contact Peter White (president@scalemodelswellington.org.nz) beforehand to discuss this.

After the SGM, the committee would like to discuss where the club is going - there are some issues coming up that we need to deal with and we’d like the membership to be actively involved in the process.

We’ll also have Show and Tell as usual, and the prize-giving for the Build the Same Kit competition winners, so lots of reasons to make it along to PWMC at the end of August.

Old FokkersA club member has suggested that the Old Fokkers building competition might not be allowed by the terms of the Incorporated Societies Act under which Scale Models Wellington IPMS operates. Unfortunately this was only pointed out after we’d run the event rather than when it was announced, so we couldn’t do anything about it earlier.

The issue seems to be whether the prize of a voucher can be construed as money - if so it would be against the rules as the club is not allowed to engage in operations involving pecuniary gain.

The wording of the act isn’t clear, so the committee is looking into sources of free legal advice. This will hold up the vouchers (assuming we can still provide them) and we hope to have more news one way or another at the September meeting.

Apologies for the inconvenience, it was still great to see the models get built so thanks to those who took part!

Modellers in the Pub Part DeuxWe’ve managed one meet-up at the pub, let’s do it again. As before, this is an informal get-together for Scale Models Wellington IPMS members to have a drink and a chat.

Come along to the Reading Room at The Library (the bar, not the public library) from 6pm on Friday 30 September - that’s the Friday after the September club meeting.

The Library is upstairs above Burger King on Courtenay Place by the intersection with Tory Street. The entrance is immediately to the left of Burger King, and the Reading Room is on the far right as you enter The Library after climbing the stairs.

Thanks to those who entered BSK this year - some great models on the tables from both adults and juniors. We didn’t have a huge quantity of entries but the quality was excellent. We also had ten members build Old Fokkers, some more than once!

Hi there Junior Modellers,

Well done to Samuel and Harrison for their BSK entries, the only 2 completed out of all the categories that began back in May this year. There are at least four F-15s and a Warrior that didn’t make it to tables, our lowest turnout for BSK by the juniors since 2005. Hopefully we will see these all completed by year end.

Competitions and prizesNext year we will run the prize giving for BSK in a different format and hold it as part of one of our weekend build sessions so as not to interrupt a school night and make it easier for all to attend.

The stack of prizes I built up will be held over for our end of year event, which will ensure a great spread of prizes across all the categories from 1st –3rd place plus a new award for best newbie/improved modeler for 2016 as nominated by the A-team, based on work during the past year.

Bring-a-friend sessionWith most of you away during the OCT school holidays Please NOTE that I have changed the date for the October session from the 1st to the 15th October to ensure we give you a better chance to attend and finish off your school holiday projects, unfinished BSK kits and anything else that you are working on over the two week break.

It will also be” Bring-a-Friend session on 15th October”. The first four juniors by Friday 14th October to call me and provide a name will be welcome to bring a friend with for our session on the 15th October.

In addition to your friend receiving something to build, the 4 juniors who bring along a friend will also receive one of the just/started pre-loved models the club has received over the past few weeks.

Our new compressor and Tamiya HG spray gun will be up and running and hopefully some warmer weather with daylight savings will help with the paint drying sessions as well.

With Christmas now getting ever closer, here is what I am hoping ends up under my Christmas tree:
