• Blast in EMD5/B3 on 22/09/2013 (during LS1);

• The switchgear had to be replaced (>6 months);

• During a run, such a failure would stop the SPS for several

weeks in the best case (with a temporary solution).

Some works planned by non-EL users will require the availability of some parts of the networks concerned by the EL consolidation

• Beginning of the study phase in June;

• Objective of the study phase: define a general strategy for all SPS sites, end 2015.

Project Costing

• A detailed cost breakdown for the consolidation works will be provided after completion of the study phase;

• Funding for the consolidation will be covered by EL-SPS & ACC-CONS;

• The cost of dedicated upgrades for projects such as LIU shall be covered by the project concerned.

Conclusion

• A wide project for EN/EL, able to ensure the reliability of the SPS electrical supply for the next 30 years;

• Good opportunity to coordinate upgrade and consolidation works in a single project;

• The Study Phase requires the collection of user needs for upgrade (for end of October 2015);

• General strategy for all SPS site to be determined by the end of the year.
