Golf Tournament when they went to book for the Golf Course at Muthaiga. They picked the only day available, 16th February 2018. But they had not remembered at all, that such a day is exactly the Feast Day of Blessed Joseph Allamano. This gives us a lot of confidence, that we are definitely doing God’s work and not ours and Blessed Allamano has his hand right on us. Let’s not get tired and keep our efforts, even more now, that the country has stabilized. Generations to come, will enjoy what is happening today; as we enjoy the beautiful Church built many years ago, even before some of us were born.

On behalf of the Pastoral Team, have a blessed Easter, allowing the Spirit of the Risen Lord, fill our hearts with His own presence, which is Peace in itself.

A time to return to God

CE

Dear parishioners,May the Peace and Consolation of Jesus through the intercession of Our Lady Consolata and Blessed Joseph Allamano be with you and your families.

As I write to you… I try to acknowledge what has been happening around us in the last days.

Time keeps moving very fast! Yesterday you were taking children to school… now they are about to finish the first term.

Lent is ending up and Easter is on its way coming. Hopefully, we have opened our hearts and minds to allow God’s Grace to continue the work He has started in us. A time to return to God, a time to look at ourselves and renew our commitment to correspond to such a great gift from God…

trying to become more like Him. Let’s not get tired of becoming His image, putting above everything else Love, Mercy, Compassion!

Something that happened recently, as it happens in other times of the year, is that we had a number of parishioners who have also returned to the Father. This reminds us always that our return of lent is a journey in preparation to that moment when we go back to the dust that we came from, as we were reminded at Ash Wednesday and our souls go back to rest in God’s hands. Let’s not forget that while we are in this world, we are called once more to do our best each and everyday because nobody knows about the tomorrow.

We are just seeing our country, hopefully to come to stabilize itself after a couple of years of concerns, worries, challenges, efforts… It

seems that finally, we see some light which prevails above personal and groups interests. While on one side we cannot take rushed conclusions, still these steps renew our hope and tell us that we can never remain in state of fighting. The only fight that we keep fighting is the one for God and for the dignity of each and every human being. And when that is done with and out of love, then we are sure to succeed at least in planting a good seed. We can’t please people, but we can always rest in peace when we have the best intention, that we are doing our best and that we wish to become God’s instruments by acting as Jesus did.

The one year celebration of the ground-breaking of the Allamano Centre fills our hearts with joy. Joy recognizing God’s faithfulness, the blessings of Our Lady Consolata and Blessed Joseph Allamano and your prayers, moral and financial support towards it. You are not helping just Consolata Shrine, you are helping yourself and the whole community, but above all, you are doing God’s work. Let’s not forget just the anecdote of the Committee preparing the

The project is progressing well and this growth needs to be well sustained for continual development and attainment of our goal for better service to our community.

We appeal for your continued support both financially and through prayers to realize this dream that will no doubt bless each individual in a different way.

May the Lord be with you, Bless you and let His light shine upon you as we seek to remain faithful to Blessed Joseph Allamano and the first missionaries by dedicating more towards proclaiming the Good News to all people.

The Allamano Centre …One Year On

CE

A year ago and with great joy, we launched the project through which we hope to remain faithful to Blessed Joseph Allamano and the first missionaries for dedicating their lives to proclaim the Good News to all people.

One year down the line the Development and Maintenance committee having been charged with the site development on behalf of Consolata parishioners, wish to count our first achievement as having something to report. The report in itself is an indication of a successful launch thanks to your prayers and offerings.

As we catch glimpses of the centre over the scaffolding it is evidence of the progress that has been made; the building is taking

shape and we no longer have to rely on the images for the project’s visualization but look forward to its’ finished and beautified state.

The services that we hoped to provide to the parish and in a better way are many and varied. You parishioners have experienced these needs in one way or another, from meeting rooms required for the many functions, to the support facilities. But one particular need that each and every one of you has experienced is the dire need for more parking.

It is with this in mind that we are happy to announce the release of an estimated two hundred (200) parking slots for use beginning May 2018.

Exactly one year ago, this earth moving machine marked the start of the construction of the state of the art Allamano Centre during the groundbreaking ceremony. Inset, Bishop Pate of Isiolo leads parishioners in the ground breaking ceremony.

we would meet every Wednesday at St. Paul’s University chapel, attend mass and storm the heavens with our prayer and praising in front of the tabernacle. We would intercede for both our friends and enemies and this is what mainly joined the two of us - Our Lord Himself. We learnt so much from each other, and this is what defined a Godly relationship. KEVIN and DORINA:We are sharing our story to inspire this generation, that love and purity is real. Love conquers all, and at the foundation of every relationship is God. And through that love of God we maintained our chastity till marriage, and through the same love, we will maintain our faithfulness till death. We are looking to engage in youth ministry in dating, courtship and marriage. With God on our side, we shall inspire our generation.

We thank God for our families the Osyanjus & the Kiggundus. Mr. & Mrs. Dad Felix and Mum Mary Consolata Osyanju and Dad Fred and Mum Rebecca Kiggundu who believed in us and mentored us. Our friends and Church groups brethren in Christ Jesus who offered spiritual moral and financial support in our journey.

Our Untold Story of Love - Written by God HimselfDORINA:God brings people together when we least expect it. Have you ever had someone enter your life and thought,

“Wow, they are exactly who I needed right now.” God makes that happen! Even amidst tragedy, God will bring people together. God will never leave you alone and will provide exactly what you need when you need it. KEVIN:Ps 136 “We give thanks to the Lord for He is good His great love endures forever.”

GOD’s plan for our lives is really amazing! How He crafted our paths to meet is a “Season of mysteries Endowed with His grace and Glory. Is 55:8-9

DORINA:It all began when I joined an acapella group in my church (Consolata Shrine Westlands) in 2013.

At first we were only three; my (now) best man

Tim Mututi best maid Myriam Mwangi were the other group members. I sang alto, the best man sang tenor and the best maid sang soprano. We felt we were missing a bass in the group and so we went hunting for one. By God’s providence, at the end of 2014 a gentleman by the name of Kevin came to sing with us one time. Lo and behold! he had the deepest most resonant bass voice - we took him on to the group instantly.

KEVIN:Two “opposite” people. Two cherished diverse cultures from different parts of our one big world. From the beautiful cradles of Uganda and Kenya. Meeting to share one heart one mind and one soul. It was Grace.

I say to myself “Neither of us chose the other, God did.”

DORINA:After a couple of months, Kevin approached me at Naivas and asked if I could be his prayer partner, and I said yes. Kevin and I became prayer partners and that’s all we were. Then my friend Myriam, who is like my big sister to me, said,

“I always catch Kevin stealing hot glances at you, have you ever thought of him romantically?”

I would like to admit that it took me a while to “marinate” the whole idea. And there and then after a while, something hit me like a heart attack and I got a wave of feelings for him. Then, as God would have It, Kevin too started making moves, at first very subtle moves. And as they say, the rest is history...

KEVIN:Singing for the Lord is a passion that we all shared with a Vocal Group known as By the Grace of God Choir which ministers at 5:30pm every Saturday during Consolata Shrines evening mass. One Saturday after mass I met Dorina at Naivas Westlands while shopping. l asked her to be my prayer partner and we exchanged numbers for the first time. That is the precise moment the seed of our destiny was planted, upon this foundation of prayer partnership. On various occasions we met for the Monthly First Friday night vigil at Consolata Shrine (also known as the „kesha”), bible study fellowship (BSF), moon-light evening walks and picnics at The Arboretum.

This all led to deepening our bonds as we both believed in the quote “The best things in this Life are freely given by God” We practiced the principles of LOVE that were so dear to us: L- listen O- Observe V- Value E- Evaluate, Encourage, Empower.

These principles put a burning thirst of desire to meet often at the prayer garden of Consolata Shrine where we met to share our past stories & challenges. This created a positive attraction that led to a relationship, courtship and then engagement.

Now, by God’s grace, we are husband and wife. Like the law of nature goes, “like attracts like” and “takes an action for a reaction to occur.” During the times we met I must say there was a lot of transformation that one had to hold on to their gem. As for me, that gem had become Dorina. DORINA:As the word of God says:(Phil 1:6) He who began His work in you, shall bring it to completion”Ours is a story that began on the foundation of prayer. Amidst all odds, our Lord in the Eucharist drew us closer to Him each passing day. At times

Dorina and Kevin exchange wedding vows, presided over by Fr. Caesar. The couple, together with the best couple sings in the Consolata Shrine choirs.

was held at the Consolata Seminary in Langata. It was a colourful event that marked the beginning of an interesting journey of the Allamano Youth.

Soon after the meeting of all Parishes it was agreed that it was time for officials to be appointed at the idea that was conceived could now stand on its own feet. With the members who spearheaded the group handing it over to the care of the newly appointed officials.

Fast forward to 2018 and here we are to celebrate one year after the group was re-instituted. On the 25th of February 2018, the Allamano youth came together at the Consolata Seminary in Lang’ata, to mark another year growing strong in the Allamano spirit.

Allamano Youth

CE

The Allamano youth should be no stranger to those who were active in Consolata Church activities in their younger days. It is a group that was in existence years back, however, as the members grew older and had to leave the group, so did the spirit of the group leave with the members that left.

Little was it known in the year 2016 Father Makau and two seminarians by the names Timothy Wanjala and Albert Mwanguhya had plans to bring the group back to existence.

The vision that they had and would love to share it with other youth was to bring together the youth from all the Consolata parishes by enabling them to have a missionary aspect in their Christian life. The group in its dynamism would have spiritual, social and missionary aspects in their activities.

The main objective of the group was to inculcate the values of Bl. Joseph Allamano in the youth activities, some of the values include to: missionary create among ourselves in our spiritual life and human promotion.

With this objective in mind, the group spearheading the revival of the group set to convene their first meeting at the Regional House where they invited youth representatives from various Consolata

churches and the churches that were in attendance include; St. Joseph Mukasa Kahawa West, Holy Mary in Githurai , St Joseph in Deep Sea and Consolata in Westlands.

With this small number a meeting was convened to explain to the leaders of the various churches the need to revive the Allamano youth to get the youth in our various churches involved and for the leaders to talk to their members about the formation of the group.

On conclusion of the meeting it was resolved that the seminarians would visit the various Consolata churches to meet the youth members and explain to them what the

Allamano Youth is all about. There was a positive response from most of the churches that they visited and with this the spirit of the Allamano Youth began to take shape.

The main objectives that the group set out to achieve are; Knowing the history of Bl. Joseph AllamanoHaving in puts on the values that Allamano has for the young peopleHaving exchange programs among different parishesHaving seminarsPlaying different games togetherHaving inputs from the priests or chaplain

Once lobbying for members to be on board for the group it was agreed that the first meeting since the dormancy of the group would be held on 29th of January 2017 with the theme of “Rejuvenation and uniting the Allamano youth”. The youth from various parishes were in attendance. The meeting

Young Soldiers in the KNH Cancer Wards

CE

He was small-bodied and wearily hunched over in his seat. With droopy eyelids that reflected the fatigue he struggled against every minute, he smiled gently as he stretched out a thin, small hand to grasp with relief at the packet of orange juice I handed to him. I continued handing out the small juice packets to the many small hands stretched excitedly towards me by the almost 30 children between 5 and 14 years of age, whose bodies had succumbed to cancer, and who hoped like me, to leave alive and well one day, and humbly rejoice that they are finally ‘cancer survivors’. Even as my hand dipped in and out of the bag that held the small juice packets, I could not help but keep glancing at the very first hunched figure. He was too tired and drained to nibble on the chocolate cake that other children eagerly munched, and the veins that stood out on his head explained the stress his little body felt, and his only desire was to sip at the orange juice and try to quench the never-ending thirst. His light-brown face carried a thin sheen of sweat even as he sucked thirstily at the orange juice that swam speedily through the straw that he held tightly between his lips into his mouth. It was clear he was thirstier, but when I gave him a piece of cake, he said: “keep that for mommy who is soon coming to visit”. So sick yet so generous, wishing to express his gratitude to his mummy, but also very weakened by cancer that a sweet forest cake no longer held joy to him anymore. My heart wrenched each time I looked at him, and with most of the others who all had various cancer challenges!!!

Our first visit took place on the 4th of February, 2018, World Cancer Day, and thereafter we met

again at this same hospital on the International Childhood Cancer Day that is the 15 February 2018, which again is an international annual event to help raise awareness and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, survivors and their families.

I and a number of compassionate friends of mine were determined to visit the cancer wards at the Kenyatta National Hospital on these two separate days to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. And that is exactly what we did.

However, it was only after spending about four hours in these wards, with these strong-hearted little beings, that I realized that these little patients were actually the ones who taught us so much more about life. As we chatted with them, listened to their softly relate their experiences, some able only to sit and sigh tiredly after each sentence, others happily chatting around and enjoying the singing, clapping and cake cutting, and fruits that we passed around with the nurses’ permission, I learned that their weary and sick bodies actually held hearts made of very strong mettle, that helped them soldier on to every new day.

Every day, they soldiered on, with a smile, despite the endless needle pricks, the nausea, the weakness, loss of appetite, the bed sores, the heat, the negative reactions to the drugs they had to take, the vomiting, the discouraging reports of their friends who did not make it to today and who were therefore unable to share a box of juice with them today as they had died the night before,… and despite this, they soldier on, believing against

hope that they will make it through the cancer killing fields, and one day like me, declare that they are ‘cancer survivors’.

Our visit started at the parking lot to the expansive Kenyatta National Hospital in Upper Hill, Nairobi, where we regrouped to get to know each other as we had all started our journey from different locations, and many knew of each other only through the Whatsapp group we shared as we prepared for this visit. We shared own experiences as cancer victims, survivors, care-givers, and even the loss of loved ones cancer, and slowly by slowly the pile of gifts for the patients we had come to visit, increased in size: micro-wave, mangoes by the dozens as they were the fruit in season, diapers, butternut pumpkins (a whole sack full), children’s books, tooth brushes and tooth paste, bananas, woolen hats, room heaters, sanitary towels, reading and coloring books, and so much more! It was surely more blessed to give than to receive!

Driven by our own personal triggers of past pains, challenges and heartaches, and determined to be more compassionate and loving human beings as a result, we had all brought whatever we could afford, to make this a memorable and enjoyable day for the children in the cancer wards.

In total, the kind hearts around me managed to raise goods and gifts worth about 300,000KSHS, something I would not have been able to raise all by myself for these dear soldiers, and their care-givers in the cancer wards. On the first day, the 4th, we managed to visit the children’s cancer ward and the three other wards which hold a mix of the cancer patients and their caregivers upstairs, and on the 15th, we managed only to visit the children’s ward for the second time and cut an even larger cake with them together with handing over the gifts given by good-hearted Kenyans, many of whom could not join us for the two visits. I learned afresh just how giving Kenyans can be given the opportunity.

Ever since my own grueling experience with

Ponce De León, our history in this land goes back to 2012 when the Holy Father appointed him as Bishop of Manzini. A year ago we have opened a new parish of Ss. Peter and Paul in Kwaluseni area. Apart from the parish, one missionary periodically offers pastoral service in the refugee camp of  Malindza, close to the border with Mozambique. In an atmosphere of communion and fraternal love, all missionaries gathered in Pretoria to celebrate the delegational conference. where apartheid for years had found its habitat (is it still there in reality?).

The history of the Consolata starts back in 1940, when some missionaries who were working in Kenya were taken to this country as prisoners for some years. It is only in 1971 that they entered officially to work as missionaries. Infact they opened various missions, some of which has been handed over to the local churches. Currently in South Africa we are working in the diocese of Pretoria (Waverley, mamelodi west parish - Mary Help of Christians, mamelodi East parish, St Peter claver). In the diocese of Johannesburg we are present in Daveyton in the parish of St. Nicholas. In the diocese of Dundee we are present in Osizweni in the parish of Mary Immaculate Queen. And finally in the diocese of Durban we have a theological formation house at Merryville and we offer pastoral service at Woodlands in the parish of St. Martin de Porres, pastoral work among the “Colored”

We are also present in the Kingdom of Swaziland. In this amazing land where we have one king one Bishop, and that is our confrere, mons. José Luis

Committee’s Corner

CE

Apostolate CommitteeThe Apostolate Committee is a “consortium” of several committees whose aim is to reach out and share Christ with others within the church and outside. The leaders of the following groups form the Apostolate committee, Perpetual Eucharistic Adorers, Small Christian Communities, Charismatic Prayer Group, Rosary Group, Legion of Mary, Ministers of the Sick, Ecumenism, Pilgrimage, CWA and CMA.

The activities of each of these committees are aimed at making others experience Christ in a personal way. The activities range from visiting the prisoners, the sick in hospital, visiting children’s homes, organizing pilgrimages for our parishioners, making it possible to adore Christ 24/7, feeding the poor, visiting senior citizens including retired priests, to reaching out to our protestant brothers and sisters by organizing and participating in ecumenical activities. It may seem like a lot has been done but “the harvest is plenty and laborers are few” so we are ever looking for more people to join these groups to enable us reach many more people.

The Small Christian Communities also known as “Church in the Neighborhood”

are very important groups in our church. They make it possible for the Christ to be experienced and lived in our communities. They share the word of God, pray together and support members who need to receive sacraments. They also ensure important information from the parish is disseminated to all members. Currently, we have 12 small Christian communities at the Shrine and 6 at St. Joseph.

In Apostolate, we are ever working to identify spiritual needs within the parish and communities around us. Every need is an opportunity to share Christ with others. Our newest activity is to organize retreats for our parishioners. This year we will have two retreats starting with a ladies retreat that will be held in Sagana and a men’s retreat later in the year. More details will be communicated in due time.

” Our service is not doing miracles but doing the ordinary in extraordinary way”. Blessed Joseph Allamano

The Way of the Cross (The Stations of the Cross)The Way of the Cross is made up of fourteen holy images, or icons, showing Jesus on His sorrowful journey to the Cross. Each of the images is known as a ‘station’ on this holy journey. The first one shows the Roman Governor, Pontius Pilate, condemning Our Lord Jesus to death. The fourteenth is shows the Lord being placed in the tomb. Recently, people have included a fifteenth picture. This represents the glory and the joy of the Resurrection.

Every Friday, particularly during Lent, we are invited to walk with the Lord on this sorrowful journey. As we do so, we can share in His great suffering. We are also reminded that He willingly took up the Cross for our sake: for love of us. Look carefully at the pictures on the opposite page and complete the quiz below. The numbers represent each station. Find the missing words in the Word Bank.
