January 5. The event was part
of the XXIII Meeting of Am-

Francisco Barrio, and the
Consul General of Mexico in
Toronto, Mauricio Toussaint,
among others.
Also present were the lea-

In his speech, President
Calderón acknowledged the
role played by Mexican diplo-

"an important actor in interna-
tional cooperation and deve-
lopment, in terms of the integra-
tion of Latin America and the
Caribbean; fundamental issues
for the future of humanity, such
as climate change and the envi-
ronment; and fundamental issues
for the current global economy,
such as the leadership of the
G20."
President Calderón thanked the
members of the Mexican Foreign
Service for their loyalty, profes-
sionalism and patriotism. He
went on to say "today our diplo-
macy works and works well
around the world, and our voice,
the voice of Mexico, in spite of
everything, is heard and respec-
ted on the international stage."
The president added that the
ambassadors' and consuls' work
abroad "has been indispensable
in contributing to the develop-
ment of Mexico and in projec-
ting the image of our country
abroad."
In her speech, the Foreign
Minister, Ambassador Patricia
Espinosa Cantellano, noted that,
thanks to Mexico's ambassadors
and consuls, our country has
friendly and cooperative rela-
tions with practically every na-
tion in the world.
"We do not have any interna-
tional or bilateral conflicts. As a
country, we are open to dialogue,
trade, and exchange with other
nations," she added.
Minister Espinosa stressed that
"our country is respected for its
responsible approach to impor-
tant global issues, and for its
contributions to international
peace and security; the promo-
tion of dialogue and cooperation
among nations; the defence of
international rights; and the fos-
tering of continuous and sustai-
nable development."
