Disciplemaking Doesn’t happen with curriculums only; Occurs within relationships with other disciples; Simply loves and makes much of Jesus, which
causes us to obey His commands together. Obeying his commands in our relationships causes
us to make more disciples that make disciples. Progresses to the end of the earth and continues
to the end of time. Matthew 28:18-20—Look at this! Can you see the
cycle in the discplemaking process?

...Continued from page 2 And these are the churches that are growing. They are seeing a
multitude of mature believers in their midst.
We do not need gimmicks! We can help individuals experience a
life-changing connection with God, and that in itself should be enough to
"attract a large audience."
One other thing I am observing in this generation is spiritual hunger.
We do not have to soft-sell our message, and it is not necessary to use bait-and-
switch tactics. We can, without hesitation and without apology, proclaim the life
changing gospel of Christ; it's a message that many are ready to embrace...
...if we'll just say it.
In His Grip!!!

DIRECTORS THOUGHTS…. 3 quick thoughts: 1st, Our ANNUAL MEETING is October 5th. This
year’s 154th NRBA Annual Meeting will be held at Dorcas Wills Baptist Church in
Trinity. The info is listed on the front of the Pine Torch. Make every effort to come
and be with us. This is always a great time of encouragement, reports, music,
preaching, fellowship, & food. See you there at 10:00am on Saturday, October 5th!
2nd, Parents give this to your students or use it for a lesson on Sunday:
[It hardly seems possible, but school is back in session. Students are excited as new
opportunities rise before them. Our office sits just across the way from Crockett
Elementary School. I can hear the shouts of joy as children play outside. New
friends, old friends, nice teachers, scary teachers, a packed lunch, & a fresh
timetable.
The first day of school is a day that inevitably comes each year. Some
love it, others hate it or perhaps you just go through the motions. Regardless of
how it makes you feel you have to go, so how will you make the most of it? How
will you make this year at school worthwhile? It’s time for you to step up!
School is an incredible place where you meet hundreds of young people
and spend time with them 5 days a week for approximately 40 weeks a year. That
presents an amazing opportunity to witness and share the gospel with so many
people. In fact, the best people to reach out to these students are students. The way
you live and talk to your friends can be very powerful.
As a Christian, school ought to be looked at as one of the ultimate mission
fields. Here are a few ways you can stand out and step up when you go back to
school this year:
• MEET (Hebrews 10:25): Find out if there is a Christian lunchtime
group at your school, and join it or start one. Then bring your friends.
• TALK (1 Peter 3:15): When your friends ask what you did on the
weekend, tell them about youth group or church and then invite them along. Tell
your friends about your faith.
• LIVE (Matthew 5:16): Live like Jesus. Don’t get caught up in gossip,
materialism, slander or any ways of this world. But be different and people will
notice, then you can point them to Jesus.
• PRAY (Colossians 4:2): Pray for your class mates, that they might
come to know Jesus.
So, as another year starts & the weekly cycle begins again, make a dif-
ference! Be bold and stand out for Jesus. Don’t waste the time you have now and
the opportunities that come at school. Whether you are in year 1 or year 12, at a
public school, private school, Christian school or secular school, Jesus died for all
and he has sent us out to make disciples of all people. So why don’t you start now?
3rd, I was recently reminded of this: “In August of 2003 there was a TV
ad for the upcoming extravaganza that was Monday Night Football's opening game
of the season (which took place on a Thursday). The ad began with Brittney Spears
saying something about being ready for some football, & it went on to say that the
season kicks off Thursday with Al Michaels & John Madden, a half-time show that
included Brittney & Aerosmith, & the ad concluded with the line, "plus the
Redskins and the Jets."
Did you get that? "Plus the Redskins and the Jets." It's like the game itself
is an afterthought. ABC was trying desperately to attract new viewers, but they're
crazy if they think that pop stars can turn people into football fans. In fact, if ABC
would abandon the hoopla and the celebrities and the eye-popping graphics and
just SHOW THE GAME, the game itself is good enough to attract an audience.
This TV ad should make us think of the ways in which we are guilty of
the same thing. We sometimes try little "gimmicks" to attract people to church,
promising them "food, fun, and fellowship" — and though there is nothing wrong
with any of these, we have something much better to offer the world.
We are told over and over again that the way to reach people for Christ is
to build relationships with them. And yet we do not do this and wonder why we are
not reaching our communities for Christ and why our churches are not growing.
We are NOT making disciples who make disciples who make disciples.
The reason is that it takes time, effort, and commitment. BUT I AM
ENCOURAGED: There are churches today who are taking seriously the command
to make disciples!

September is designated as Estella Brown Offering for Associational Missions month. During any one (1) Sunday morning in September would your church please take a love offering for your Association? This year we
will use the proceeds to make some needed repairs to our Block Party Trailers plus several other mission projects.
Estella Brown was a missionary to Africa and served for over 40 years as our associational pianist. We honor her by taking this offering!
Please mark your offering “Estella Brown”.
