Spotlight on the

Rehab Department

The Rehabilitation Team in Continuing Care provides physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology to residents admitted for short term therapy, long term care and memory care. We provide therapy 7 days/wk, 365 days per year (yes, even holidays!) to our short term skilled therapy residents. This requires a lot of planning to schedule residents and therapists every day. Teneisa Tunstalle, Rehab Tech and Eric Lubi, Assistant Rehab Manager do an outstanding job every day to make sure residents get their therapy. We recently acquired a Wii system as an adjunct to our therapy. Carefully chosen Wii software can help residents recover from their impairments under the supervision and guidance of our licensed therapists. And they can have fun at the same time! We always strive to make rehab fun even when it can be hard

work. Rehab news: Cathy Pelletier, Rehab Manager, became a grandmother for the first time in June and she is elated! Her daughter gave birth to a boy in Minneapolis. Cathy plans to visit as often as she can! Recently Eric Lubi gave a great lecture to families of residents in long term care about how Medicare covers rehab services in the nursing home. Over the past few months, our staff has increased with the addition of Occupational Therapists Karen Van Orden and Amanda Hedgepeth. We are delighted that they joined our team and rehab family. We also hired several flex staff to include Jayshree Shah (physical therapy assistant), Anne Gikonyo (occupational therapy assistant), Kathy Van Orden (occupational therapist) and Holly Jansen (speech-language pathologist). Our flex staff work when our regular staff take a well-deserved vacation and also on weekends and holidays. It has been a busy but good summer. We are looking forward to a great fall!
