All Quantum I/O modulesare addressed and“mapped” with Concept orModsoft software, allow-ing any module to be in-stalled in any slot regard-less of module type. Allconfiguration parametersfor each I/O module arealso included in the I/OMap configuration screen.This eliminates the needfor manual setup switchesor special ladder logicto configure and readmodules.

The Quantum ASCIImodule is a generalpurpose ASCII interfacethat provides the abilityto communicate and ex-change data with devicesincluding printers, barcode readers and scan-ners, weigh scales, andmeters. This module isdesigned for relativelysimple point to pointASCII communications,with ASCII messagesstored inside the moduletriggered by logic withinthe Quantum controller.

Quantum backplanes usea common strategy soevery slot in everybackplane is electricallyidentical, with no slotdependencies. Alladdressing is done viasoftware, making modulereplacement plug andplay. Backplane modelsare available in 2, 3, 4, 6,10, and 16 slot versions.For reduction of spareparts, the same back-planes are used in Local,Remote, and DistributedQuantum I/O racks.

Quantum provides theRemote I/O (RIO)architecture solution forapplications requiringlarge I/O count, remotelymounted I/O, largeamounts of I/O perfor-mance, or connectivityto existing Modicon andSy/Max I/O installations.

Quantum Remote I/O isserviced synchronous tothe scan of the CPU.This ensures fast deter-ministic control of theprocess from the CPU’sapplication program, andmakes the QuantumHot Standby System’sbumpless transfer possible,and provides the safestpossible operating modeof any controller onthe market.

When combined with 984Ladder Logic the SegmentScheduler complementsthe high performance ofthe network by providingparallel processing ofI/O servicing and logicsolving to provide thehighest possible systemthroughput.

Based on the S908 Re-mote I/O technology ofthe Modicon 984 Family,this network is compatiblewith existing installationsof Modicon I/O includingthe 800, 500, 200 Series,and Square D Sy/Max I/O.

Since Distributed I/O usesthe same network tech-nology as Modbus Plus,it can coexist on thisflexible control networkwith programmers,MAGELiS HMI devicesand Altivar 66 variablespeed drives reducingthe number of communi-cation networks requiredfor a system.

If your application requiresfault tolerance and highavailability, considerQuantum’s redundantcontroller option. Simpleto configure and easy toinstall, the hot standbysystem provides bumplessstandby control in case ofa component failure orpower source interruption.

Two identically configuredQuantum systems com-municate with each othervia the hot standby optionprocessor located in eachQuantum system. One ofthe controllers in theconfiguration acts as theprimary, while the otheris in standby mode, readyto take ownership of theS908 Remote I/O linkupon any failure of theprimary system.
