The Benefits Why Cooltech?
2 May 2016 Cooltech – www.cooltech-applications.com
Environmental and economic issues for compressor-based refrigeration systems
o The refrigeration and air conditioning sectors: 13% of GHG emissions by 2030 o F-gas refrigerants: high impact on Global Warming - increasing regulations o Systems prone to refrigerant leaks: hazardous for the environment o Low Coefficient of Performance (COP): high energy consumption o High pressure systems: costly maintenance operations
The Magnetic Refrigeration System (MRS): a sustainable alternative
o No refrigerant gas (water-based coolant liquid): Eliminate harmful emissions o Low pressure system, no gas: safe and reliable – quasi-indefinite lifespan o Less noise, less vibration: environmental comfort o High Coefficient of Performance (COP): reduce energy consumption by up to 40%
A gas-free, cost-effective and safe innovation
The Problems
The Solution
Magnetic cooling: the physical principle
E = m Cp ∆t
Basics of Magnetic Refrigeration
Magnetic Refrigeration is based on the Magneto-Caloric Effect (MCE). The MCE infers that some metal alloys or Magneto-Caloric Materials (MCM) heat up when immersed in a magnetic field and cool down when removed from the magnetic field. A thermal span is generated by applying a series of Magnetization-Demagnetization cycles on MCM.

Simplified View of a Magnetic Refrigeration System (MRS)
In the magneto-caloric heat pump, heat is transferred from the cold interior of the refrigerator to the warm external air by circulating a water-based coolant through the magneto-caloric materials as they cycle in and out of the magnetic field.
