Newquay Bulletin – 1st June 2015

Dear Students

The Exam Week Timetables are available on your course notice

boards and on your course Moodle pages.

If you are scheduled to have an exam but you are not listed on

the college notice board, you should have received a

personalised timetable via email.

The exams will take place between Thursday 28th and Friday 29th

May; Monday 1st to Thursday 4th June; Monday 8th to Thursday 11th

June. All exams taking place will be in classrooms at Newquay or

the Atlantic Centre in Wildflower Lane (car access through the

over flow car park).

It is a necessity in sitting HE exams that you have your UoP

number. This number can be found on your UoP card, or on

the college notice board exam timetable schedule.

Please note that you will also need to bring along

photographic ID to your exam, as your identity will be

checked by the Invigilator (even if the Invigilator is a

HE EXAMS

member of staff who knows you) as this is an exam

regulation.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the exam.

It would be advisable to bring a pen and pencil and

calculator (if needed) with you to the exam. Only see-

through pencil cases are allowed on the exam desk.

Please remember to turn your mobile phone off and hand

into the invigilator or store away in your bag at the other side

of the exam room. It is a serious exam offence to use any

electronic device, bar a calculator in an exam.

Please also be aware that you will not be allowed to go to

the toilet unaccompanied, if you do need to go you will have

to wait until the break invigilator comes to relieve the

invigilator and then they will accompany you.

If you have any problems with your exam timetable please do not

hesitate to contact me and I will be happy to help.

The best of luck with your exams!

Regards

Kirsten

Hi all.

We're at that time of year again with exams and tests and revision

is key. Evidence suggests that these five steps will improve your

revision and hopefully your exam performance:

1. Rest & sleep. 8 hrs a night & naps. Relax between revision

sessions.

2. Structure your revision notes. Trying to remember it all doesn't

work nearly as well as rewriting your notes in a form where

concepts are linked so remembering one thing will lead you

to remembering other related things. This could be

diagrammatical.

3. Spaced revision. Evidence shows that spacing revision of a

subject is better than cramming. The longer the gap the

better. I'd advise reading your day's notes again at the end

of a day's lessons then rewriting in a structured form at the

start of revision and then revising from those notes for bursts

every 24 hours.

4. Practise in the form you know the exam/test will be. If you

know the answers will be essay form, practise writing essays.

5. Eat well. Complex carbs, good quality proteins, healthy fats

(like olive oil), plenty of fruit and veg. Oh and plenty of water.

Cut the simple sugars. Your brain is the most glucose-hungry

organ going and it uses bucket-loads when it's hard at work

thinking. Feed it well!

Points 1-4 and one other point of advice can be found here:

secrets-of-successful-revising

Good luck for the next few weeks!

Could you please all ensure that your address details are correct on

our system. This is important for 1st and 2nd year students on all courses.

Your results will automatically be sent to your HOME address. If

you are moving or your address is incorrect, please make sure that

you fill in a change of address form with your new details.

It is important to note that your results are sent out to you from

Camborne and not Newquay and any results / certificates sent to

you at the wrong address will require you to pay a fee for a

duplicate copy to be sent to your correct address, this will also

result in a delay in you receiving your results.

You will need to let me know if you require your address changing by

30th June 2015 to enable me to update the system for you. It is

very important that we hold the correct address for you as all

certificates and results will be sent to the address logged on the

system.

Re-sit work will also be sent to your home address.

Please fill in a Change of Address Form which is available from

Reception. Please make sure that you fully complete this form with

all your details. We cannot change addresses on the system without

the form.
