The runaway success of the year has been three fabulous Gala Dinners supported by the corporate community. Nearly 500 business guests hosted by 30 companies and 2 very generous sponsors from across the city contributed to this massive total. And the impact on our work is no less massive. As a result of this terrific response we can continue and deepen our commitment to disadvantaged groups of all ages in the community. GOOSE ON THE LOOSE!National Theatre’s ‘Lucy the Goose’ made a surpriseappearance at the War Horse network reception. Matt Forbesand Joseph Richardson from the cast offered an exclusiveinsight into this powerful sell-out production. ‘Lucy’ pecked atthe delicious leftovers from our sweet treat table andscampered after the 50 cross-sector guests, taking a closeinterest in hemlines and high heels!

Our raffle proved as popular as ever and generous LeadingLadies helped to raise over £1,000 for the first ever RelaxedPerformance at this year’s panto, Snow White and theSeven Dwarfs.

Richard Hayhow workswith One of a Kind

IRWIN MITCHELL IS

ONE OF A KINDIrwin Mitchell has become the first corporatesupporter of Hippodrome Plus drama group One of a Kind.Under the expert direction of Richard Hayhow, One of a Kindworks with young people aged 16-18 years with learningdisabilities. The aim of the weekly sessions is to increase self-confidence, personal communication skills, self-expression andteam work of the participants through drama. Sessions includewarm-ups, improvisation, script and plot development as well asperformance.

In part the group is a response to the shocking statistic that fourout of five young people with learning disabilities will not find anyform of permanent employment. And that is where Irwin Mitchellstepped in.

Irwin Mitchell Regional Managing Partner, Stuart Henderson said“Being involved with the local community is a natural element ofIrwin Mitchell’s day to day working life. We are in constantdialogue with the community. It is this close link that hasenabled us to identify some of the key social issues that weaddress via our employee volunteering and charitable giving.”

A small team of volunteers from Irwin Mitchell is due to receivetraining before actively supporting the group.

Stuart Henderson added “We are very supportive of the One of aKind initiative and Birmingham Hippodrome. The theatre plays avital cultural role in the city and we have been impressed with itsCreative Learning Programme. One of a Kind plays an importantrole in developing confidence and personal communication skillsamongst those young people that attend and we are delighted tobe involved.”
