Liturgy of the Day

Pentecost Sunday May 15, 2016 Homilía
El Papa Francisco, cuando se refiere al diálogo ecuménico,
imagina al Espíritu Santo guiándonos a todos hacia una
“diversidad reconciliatoria”. En el libro del Génesis la unidad
del lenguaje de Babel se desintegra en una desunión
conflictiva que deja cicatrices. El Espíritu de Pentecostés crea una unidad cimentada
en la fe, que respeta y hasta reconcilia nuestras diferentes “lenguas” (idioma, cultura,
costumbres, etc.). Aunque el viento y el fuego causaron temblores, según nos dice el
libro del Éxodo, lenguas de fuego acompañadas del viento fueron a posarse
suavemente sobre todos los presentes, según nos relatan los Hechos. La promesa
consoladora de Ezequiel imagina un renacimiento de la comunidad después de haber
estado muerta, así como un reencuentro después de la destrucción y el
restablecimiento en la tierra prometida. También Joel nos consuela con la promesa de
que los sueños y las visiones que da el Espíritu transformarán al grupo que ayudará a
transformar el mundo. Pablo nos asegura que, a pesar de nuestras pruebas, el Espíritu
nos ayuda para que compartamos el nacimiento de la nueva creación de Dios.
Además, el Espíritu intercede por nosotros y en nosotros. El mismo Jesús nos invita a
todos a beber a fondo de ese Espíritu, que es un don gratuito para todos los creyentes
y su fuerza necesaria para vivir, si es que deseamos cumplir el llamado bautismal de
ser “discípulos misioneros”.
Lecturas del día
El libro de los Hechos describe el Espíritu de Pentecostés que comunica una misma
fe en innumerables lenguas y reúne a nacionalidades divergentes en una sola
comunidad, confiriendo así lo que el Papa Francisco llama una “diversidad
reconciliada”. El “viento fuerte” que sopló en Pentecostés (Hechos 2:2) no causa ni
temor ni temblores como la revelación anterior, sino que “lenguas de fuego . . . se
posaron sobre ellos” (2:3): La presencia poderosa, pero suave de Dios. En la carta a
los corintios Pablo exhorta a esa comunidad diversa (y a la nuestra) a celebrar los
diferentes dones del Espíritu en nosotros y en los demás a fin de que nuestra diversa
comunidad se convierta en el mismo cuerpo de Cristo. En la carta a los romanos
Pablo nos pide que abandonemos nuestra vida “desordenada y egoísta”, o sea, una
vida desprovista de Dios, y llevemos en vez una vida otorgada por un “espíritu de
hijos, en virtud del cual podemos llamar Padre a Dios”. (Romanos 8:15).
En la lectura del Evangelio, tomada del capítulo veinte según san Juan, Jesús le
muestra a los miedosos discípulos sus llagas que conceden la paz (vulnera) y después
los envía (también a nosotros) a ser tan “vulnerables” como él lo fue, y a amar a los
demás tal como él nos ama. Es así que el Papa Francisco explica que en este Año
Jubilar de la Misericordia el Espíritu de Pentecostés nos hace un nuevo llamado para
salir de la mediocridad y del aislamiento egoísta a fin de poder compartir la
misericordia de Dios con el mundo. La lectura del Evangelio, tomada del capítulo
catorce según san Juan, nos enseña que cumplir los mandamientos y la palabra de
Jesús no es una “responsabilidad legal”, sino una opción de amorosa intimidad: “mi
Padre [amará a todos los que cumplan su palabra], vendremos a él y haremos en él
nuestra morada” (Juan 14:23b). El tiempo de Pascua concluye con nuestra
celebración del “Paráclito, el Espíritu Santo” y con la promesa de Cristo a los
discípulos (y a nosotros) de que el Espíritu estará siempre presente a medida que
evolucionan en el entendimiento de la verdad: “el Espíritu Santo les enseñará todas
las cosas y les recordará todo cuanto yo les he dicho” (14:26).

presencia renovadora del suave amor del Espíritu, que se “posa” sobre nosotros?

1988, Family Honor provides and promotes a family-
centered Catholic approach to chastity education. The
organization is based in South Carolina and has teams
of adult presenters in nine states who deliver a variety
of programs to parents and teens at parishes across the

Christ Renews His Parish
On a beautiful spring weekend in
April, a wonderful group of men
from our parish joined together in
celebration of the Third Christ
Renews His Parish (CRHP) Men’s
Retreat. The participants had time
to hear powerful testimonies from
lay leaders, celebrated the
Sacrament of Reconciliation,
participated in Mass on both
Saturday night and Sunday
afternoon and developed
friendships that help to bring a
true sense of Christian
community.
Spiritual direction throughout the
weekend was led by Father Ray
and Deacon Coleman Parks.

A Lesson in Love
All of the participants and retreat team leaders want to express their sincere
appreciation to all of the people behind the scenes who prayed, prepared
meals and organized the many activities throughout the weekend! The
experience was a true lesson in love and faith.
