The festive-feeling, toe- tapping, heart-swelling musical program was directed once again by the blessedly talented Brandon Horrocks, who got the music quickly underway (just as soon as he made sure President Nominee David Oates got stage-appropriate by shedding his infa- mous, decidedly not-blessed reflector vest.) This years program was a mix of all kinds of musical blessings. Numbers included lively montages, holiday hymns and a special Hanukkah remembrance from the Rotary Chorus. There was also a mag- nificent mash-up of Jingle Bellsand Tchaikovsky tunes from the Club 33 Sing- ers, and a lively piano rendition of Go, Tell it on the Mountainprovided by Bryan Ver- hoye. Brandon acknowledged that this past year has been a challenging one for many, here and around the globe. He encouraged us all to bring light and a voice to those who dont have them, and reminded us that we can bring peace, love and compassion to one another. The room was packed with Rotarians and guests dressed in their holiday finest and ready for Rotary action. This years holiday program theme was Count Your Blessings and it delivered. There were so many blessings in fact, that it seems only appropriate to steal (or, in the spirit of the holidays, borrow) the theme of blessingsto summarize our special meet- ing. So lets get started, yes? The blessings began when President Bob chimed the bell, gave us a hearty wel- come and as tradition would have it, deliv- ered the programs Inspirational Moment. (He also noted that it was National Bouilla- baisse Day, but that seems more culinary tidbit than blessing so well leave it at that.) In his inspirational moment, our passionate president encouraged us NOT to be sad when the holidays come to an end. Instead, we should celebrate the fact that we can experi- ence the joy of the season all year round through our service to men, women and chil- dren throughout the world. The next blessing came as President Bob welcomed all of our guests. These in- cluded more than 30 visiting seniors, with a special shout out to Roger Hainesmother, aged 101 and counting! It is also worth noting here that an- other guest blessed us with his presenceSanta Claus himself! There were two striking things about St. Nick. One: he was eerily similar in appearance to Past President Chuck Pretto. Two: he must have been quite tired from all of that Christmas prep because he spent the majority of the music portion of the program either sitting quietly on the side of the stage or looking awkward- ly over the shoulder of Woody Ledford so that he could read the music and subtly sing along. We love you, Santa! The next blessing was the giving of thanks by our president, who started by Deirdre Maloney Editor ANNUAL DONATIONS: If you would like to make your annual contribution before year end for tax purposes, please call the office with a credit card or mail your check before December 29. leading a hearty round of applause for the staff of Sodexo, our terrific catering compa-ny. Heartfelt thanks also went out to “sound man” Randy Barnett and, of course, two of our greatest gifts, Paul Devermann and Mary Radovan.

President Bob also blessed this Ro-tator editor when he reminded me from the stage that he’s told me the secret reason as to why he’s not a fan of the new, crystal-clear podium. As a lady, I can’t say much except that the arrival of the new podium has likely changed his mantra to “zip it”.

The last announcement to come from our prez was the biggie: next year’s board and our 2020-2021 president…Chris Sichel. Congrats to Chris and the entire incoming crew, and thank you for blessing us with your tremendous leadership!

It was then time to get down to hol-iday business. The festive-feeling, toe-tapping, heart-swelling musical program was directed once again by the blessedly talented Brandon Horrocks, who got the music quickly underway (just as soon as he made sure President Nominee David Oates got stage-appropriate by shedding his infa-mous, decidedly not-blessed reflector vest.)

GROTARIAN EVENTS

QUICK BITS Count Your Blessings Continued from page 1

CALENDAR

BIRTHDAYS

Of course, long-time Rotarians know that the program wouldn’t be complete without some kind of version of the “12 Days of Christmas” led by the Club 33 Singers. This year featured a special set of tributes to 12 of the committees who bless us with their hard work and commitment all year long. The song, which was interactive, of course, was splendidly scribed by our own President-Elect Suzy Spafford.

Which brings us back to where we start-ed…the cannon. As the crowd wrapped up the final lines of the “12 Days”, I had the pleasure of joining a few other lucky Rotarians in shooting some streamers from a cannon, through the air, and onto the stage. And it all would’ve gone fine, if an unex-pected bout of performance anxiety hadn’t caused my trigger finger to lock up, which meant my streamers were juuuust a bit later than everyone else’s.

But nobody around me said a thing. In-stead, they just smiled warmly and told me I did a great job because our club is made up of some of the nicest, most giving, most genuine people there are.

And that’s a blessing you just can’t beat.
