continued on page 7..... The Courier The Idaho Affiliate of Susan G. Komen anounced 2015/2016 Community Grants totaling $155,000 in their 28 county service area in Idaho. In the Magic Val- ley, Komen Idaho has slat- ed $35,500 to local servic- es, much of this funded by the public’s participation in events such as Komen Boi- se Race for the Cure. The Magic Valley grants include: Glenns Ferry Health Center, $6,000; Minidoka Memorial Hos- pital, $12,500; St. Luke’s Magic Valley, $4,000; St. Luke’s Wood River Foun- dation, $7,000; and North Canyon Medical Center, $6,000. Most of these grants will be use to providing free mammogram and diagnos- tic service to women who cannot afford them, with the intention of reducing the number of late stage breast cancers and promot- ing breast health awareness in the region. “North Canyon Medical Center (NCMC) is very grateful to receive a grant from Komen Idaho. Our ‘Rural Care for Low to Middle Income Women’ program is a substantial part of our mammogra- phy department; the grant funds help provide breast health services to individu- als in our community and surrounding areas,” said Jamie Ramsey, QA Mam- Magic Valley Grants to Fight Breast Cancer mographer at NCMC. “NCMC and Komen Idaho have a grant relationship that spans almost a decade. We are fortunate to have a hospital administration and community that realizes the necessity of the grant and supports NCMC and Ko- men Idaho’s efforts to raise breast health awareness in our region. Many commu- nity members attend the an- nual Boise Race for the Cure to help raise vital grant funds.” Skate Park Ground Breaking Shoshone Family Medical Earns National Recognition National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) announced last Wednes- day that Shoshone Fam- ily Medical Center of Sho- shone, Idaho, has received NCQA Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) Recognition for using evi- dence-based, patient-cen- tered processes that focus on highly coordinated care and long-term, participa- tive relationships. The NCQA Patient-Cen- tered Medical Home is a model of primary care that combines teamwork and information technology to improve care, improve pa- tients’ experience of care and reduce costs. Medical homes foster ongoing part- nerships between patients and their personal clini- cians, instead of approach- ing care as the sum of epi- sodic office visits. Each patient’s care is overseen by clinician-led care teams that coordinate treatment across the health care sys- tem. Research shows that medical homes can lead to This coming Monday, April 13th, at 1:00 p.m. the City of Gooding will hold a ground breaking ceremony at the site of the new skate park located at 917 4th Avenue West in Gooding. Designed by Dreamland Skateparks, this facility will join a half dozen other world class skate parks in Idaho. It will, however, be more than just a skatepark. It will have picnic tables and places to just sit and enjoy the City of Gooding. Along with city officials, Glanbia Foods will also be at the celebration to present a $30,000 donation to project to help match the $92,000 grant from Idaho Parks & Recreation. Every one is encouraged to attend the celebration. Volume 39 ~ Number 14 News from the Heart of Idaho Camas • Lincoln • Gooding CourierNews.webs.com and Now...
