Last Friday, November20th,thetheCampionIceHouse in Hailey held itsGrandOpening. LocatednexttotheBlaineCountyRodeoarena,theIceHouseisnon-profit,refridg-eratedsportsarenathatwillgiveyear-roundoportunityforskatersofallages. The board of directorsfor this facility have beenworkingonthisprojectforovertenyears.In2010thepropertywasaquired,butfundingforthefacilityfellthrough.Then,beginningin2012,severallocalfamiliesincluding Lynn CampionWaddell helped fund the
completionofthecoveredskatingrink. The general scheduleforpublicskatingisweek-dayafternoons,Saturdays(varioustimes),andSun-day mornings, however,Sarah Benson (executivedirector of the facility)cautionseveryonetocheckhaileyice.org forupdatedschedulesastheIceHousewillbehostingnumeroushockeygamesduringthenextfewweekends.
Thecostforpublicskatingis$7forAdultsand$5forYouth.Skaterentalsare$5. Also, food is availableat an on-site cafe servingbreakfastandlunchitems. Ourdadwassofullofsuchabeautifulspiritthathecouldneverhardlycontain it. Heshoweditthroughhisslysmileandhislitupeyes.Hewasalwayskindandlovingandalwaysthelightofthefamily.Hewasaverywittypersonandenjoyedmakingpeoplelaugh.Askids,weknewthatwhendadproppedhiscowboybootsuponthefootstoolandlookedourwaythatitwasourdutytogooverandpullhisbootsoffforhim.Hewouldpropthemupandlookoveratusandgiveusaslightsmile,andthatisallittook. Wealsoknewthatifwewereinthekitchencookingandhewasinhischair,thatheexpectedustobringhimaplateoffood,because,afterall,hewasthefatherandwewerehislovingkidsandthatwasourjobtodo.Healwaysappreci-atedeverythingwedidforhimandunderstoodwhenwecouldnotdomore.Hewasaverypridefulmanandrarelywantedhelpbutespeciallywhenwewantedtogivehimhelphedidnotwanttoacceptit.Hemadeitknownthathecouldstilltakecareofhimself.Hestatedmanytimesinourlifethathewasamarine,sotherewasnoneedforanyonetobesissylalasandwhineaboutthings. Hewaskind,lovingandaverybrightlightinourfamily.Unfortunately,hewasinabadcaraccidentyearsagothatchangedhislifeforever.Hehadsomuchfulllifeyettoliveandtheaccidentmadehisliferougherthanitshouldhavebeen,andoursaswell,butdadalwayssawthebrightsideofit.Thenurseswerealwaysachancefordadtoflirtalittleandevenconthemintofootrubs.Hegotfootrubsthesamewayashegothisbootsoff.Hestuckhisfeetoutsideofthe

Hewasaveryproudmarineandweknowthathewouldhavewantedhissontohavehisflag.Everyonewhoknowsdadknowsthathispantsmustbecreasedcorrectly,hisbootsmushbeshinedandifhewasn’twearingahatwhenthenhishairmustbepartedandcombednicely.Thatisexactlywhatwedidforhim.Weboughthimbrandnewjeansandcreasedhispants,boughthimanicenewwarmwesternshirt,gothisfavoritecowboyhat,cleaned,andofcourseshinedhisboots.Topthatoffwithhisbelt,whichhashisnameonthebackandaWonthebuckle,anddadislookingverysharp,butmostofall,heisfeelingthebesthehasinyears;painfree. ButchwasborninWendell,Idaho on October 10, 1944toMorrisandLoisNielson.HelivedinGoodingmostofhis life. He graduated fromGooding High School andwent on to college at IdahoState inPocatello, receivinghisbachelorandmasterde-greesinSpeechPathology. ItwasatISUwherehemettheloveofhislife,SharonSilberg.TheyweremarriedApril10,1971.TheylivedinNampa,wheretheir2sons,EricandChadwereborn.ButchworkedforCanyonOwyheeSchoolDistrictforacoupleofyearsbeforegoingtoworkforHealthandWelfareinNampaastheirSpeechTherapist.
