course objectives 1. Discuss the current status of dementia research, including new findings related to the cause and prevention of AD. 2. Understand the neuropathology and clinical course of chronic traumatic encephalopathy, as well as historical and cultural significance, and methods for reducing risk. 3. Learn about the relationship of traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder to AD. 4. Name three common side effects of second- generation antipsychotic drugs. 5. Describe the role for antipsychotic, antidepressants, mood stabilizers & benzodiazepines in the management of psychiatric behavioral issues related to a dementia. 6. Name two significant differences in managing psychiatric behavioral issues that distinguish AD from Lewy Body Dementia and Frontotemporal Lobe Dementia. 7. Cite three potential drug or disease interactions with SSRI’s. 8. Create a basic understanding of oral care in Dementia. 9. Understand how culture impacts dementia care in Filipino, Korean, and Asian Indian families. 10.
