Page 6: Course Reflection Psy492

Cognitive abilities: Critical thinking

My undergraduate tenure may

have only given me moderate

capability when as comes to

skeptical inquiry and a

scientific approach but on the

same token, I can say that I

could rely on my general

critical thinking to analyze

psychological concepts. I can

also define and interpret the

complexities of an issue in

psychology.

Page 7: Course Reflection Psy492

Cognitive abilities: Information literacy

My ability to collect and

arrange information from

various sources indicates

extensive exposure to

research and how to assess

it. I am able to comprehend

how relevant a given

research study is to the

central topic.

Page 8: Course Reflection Psy492

Understanding research methods

One weakness I possess is the

ability to correctly summarize

research design, statistical

and other evaluative tools,

and the findings of an article. I

am more able to provide an

analysis of the findings and

make mere mention of the

procedures in the study.

Page 9: Course Reflection Psy492

Communication skills: Oral

I am limited as far as creating, organizing and delivering

oral presentations is concerned partly because I do

not like to be in front of others speaking. It may also

depend on what I am discussing because I may feel

more comfortable speaking about matters that do not

make me anxious.

Page 10: Course Reflection Psy492

Communication skills: Written

I have moderate ability to create, organize and deliver

written work. I can identify basic/general levels of

organization and clarity in content, language usage,

grammar organization and sentence structure, as well

as discuss psychological concepts in written form.

Page 11: Course Reflection Psy492

Ethics

As relates to ethics, I have

moderate exposure

meaning that I understand

and am able to recognize

and/or describe elements of

the ethical standards and

guidelines upon which

psychology is based.

Page 12: Course Reflection Psy492

Diversity

I am extensively exposed to

diversity. Of the three

strengths listed, the

strongest one in my case

would be that I recognize

more subtle forms of

discrimination and prejudice

within and around

psychology.

Page 13: Course Reflection Psy492

Knowledge of Psychology

In this regard, I have significant exposure meaning I can

analyze and apply major concepts, theoretical

perspectives, empirical findings, applications and

historical trends in psychology or within a specific

area of study in the field.

Page 14: Course Reflection Psy492

Knowledge of Applied Psychology

I have significant exposure in this area as well. This means I

am able to: 1) demonstrate a consistent understanding of

how psychological principles apply to issues and situations

at a personal, social, and/or organizational level, and 2)

consistently apply psychological principles in his/her

everyday decision-making and interactions with others, in

the news, and in organizations she comes into contact with

such as schools, workplaces, and places of worship and

recreation.

Page 15: Course Reflection Psy492

Interpersonal effectiveness: Active listening

communication skills

As suggested by having slight exposure to this aspect of learning, I have the

following strengths:

scenarios to establish empathetic, collegial relationships that facilitate consensus building

in working toward common goals and is appreciative of diversity and culture.

Able to analyze the importance of effective nonverbal communication skills in developing

strong interpersonal and organizational relationships that are culturally sensitive and

respectful of diversity.

interpersonal and organizational relationships.

Actively demonstrates an understanding of the impact of technological advances on

communication within interpersonal and organizational relationships.

My Future in Learning

Learning is a lifelong process. How do you envision your future as a lifelong learner?

I plan to continue my education here at Argosy University and I also would like to expand my knowledge of Psychology independently. Once I obtain employment with my degree, I will rely on the work experience I receive and figure out how Psychology applies to the given situation. I believe that what I take from my pursuit of higher education will assist me in my means to be creative.
