Dear Parents/Caregivers,
This week our school has celebrated NAIDOC Week with a wide variety of activities
honouring the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
people. On Monday we held a flag-raising ceremony to officially open NAIDOC Week in
our school, and our Year 5 Aboriginal students attended the Cowra School’s Official Flag-
raising ceremony at Mulyan PS. Thank you to Mulyan students and staff for inviting us to be
part of their ceremony. On Tuesday and Wednesday students enjoyed tasting traditional
foods with Aunty Esther, Aunty Gwen and Aunty Boot and listened to a very interesting
talk on Aboriginal artefacts, presented by Mr Murray.
This afternoon we will be holding a NAIDOC assembly with Dinawan Connections, U2, KW
and our NAIDOC Public Speaking teams all performing. Tomorrow K-6 students will
participate in Traditional Indigenous Games after lunch while 30 of our Stage 3 students
will be taking part in the annual NAIDOC Sports Challenge against Mulyan PS. This is a
whole day activity and students attending are reminded to go straight to Mulyan PS in the
morning where Mr Garlick and Mr Duncombe will be. Departure will be 3:00pm, also from
Mulyan PS. Good luck to all students competing!
On Monday afternoon we welcomed Senior Constable Jane Heffernan who is the NSW
Police Liaison Officer from Orange, to our school to do a special presentation to the Stage
2 and 3 students on cyber bullying. This session concluded our 6-week Anti-bullying
Education Program and was both interesting and informative. Congratulations to Nakeya
Ryan and Ian Daines who were the winners of our Anti-bullying poster competition! We
look forward to seeing their posters displayed around our school.
Well done to all students who attended the Western Region Soccer trials last week; I’m
sure all who went thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Special congratulations to Thomas
Seears, who was successful in being selected for the Western Region team. Thomas will
now play in the State knockout against teams from around NSW next term.
Our Kindergarten and Year One teachers held Parent/Teacher interviews on Wednesday
evening. Thank you to those parents who took up this opportunity to speak with their
child’s teacher. A reminder to any parents who were unable to attend, interviews can be
made at any time with your child’s class teacher by phoning the office to arrange an
appointment. Year 2 Parent/Teacher interviews will be held next term when Mr Ryan and
Mrs Myles are back from their leave.
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Ryan on the birth of their baby boy Max, last Friday
afternoon! He is absolutely beautiful and we wish Sam and Amy the very best as they
begin their parenting journey.
Tomorrow is the last day of term! I hope all families have a wonderful winter break and
enjoy some special family time over the two week period. Monday 17th July will be our
Term 3 Staff Development Day where teachers will be involved in professional learning
activities. We look forward to seeing all students return to school on Tuesday 18th July.
Have a wonderful holiday!
