DIRECTOR’S DIRECTIONThe mission of a school will determine its insti-tutional direction, but the core values of that school will shape the culture of the school community. We believe that by promoting and teaching moral courage, personal responsibility, proactive kindness, and intellectual purpose we will, within a matter of time, create a culture and climate that will to a greater degree than ever before “inspire in each student the curiosity to learn, the self-confidence to lead, and the compas-sion to serve.”

O ne of the challenges facing all independent schools world-wide is that of affordability.

How do we continue offering the out-standing education for which we have become renowned and keep it within the reach of boys and girls who would benefit most from such an education? We at Christian progressive college are approaching this chal-lenge with our characteristic positive attitude combined with ingenuity and hard work. We are positive because we are convinced that deserving learners regardless of race, creed or culture, from all walks of life will continue to be part of the Christian Progressive College fabric of the future. We recognize that it is not the School’s place to shape the character of its students without the active support of parents; but their support is more likely to be forthcoming if the School delineates those “core values” that are at the heart of Christian progressive

college. We have always been a school that has “walked with kings yet kept the common touch” and we wish to remain so. The CPC top achievers bur-sary was established to address the task of funding various worthy proj-ects within the school. These range from bursaries, best Christian character, scholarships for top students, many of whom are from needy families, to capital projects necessary to keep the school at the forefront of educational innovation. We have also embarked on a campaign to identify and build great sports men and women of our times under the banner of CPC Sports Academy and we’ve reaped great results already, we appeal to existing pupils, staff members, parents, as well as old boys and girls, friends of the school and corporate are invited to support This noble couse as we ven-ture into the future.

TECHNOLOGY LEARNING

nformation Technology has the power to dramatically remake schooling, raising performance while poten-tially simultaneously cutting costs. The inclusion

of technology in the process of learning makes learning an enjoyable activity, thus inviting greater interest from learners. As the leading school in Pretoria Central, Christian Progressive College is proud and honoured to announce an exciting and extraordinary development in access to IT for our learners. This development is in line with the Department of Basic Education’s vision 2025 mandate to integrate IT into every aspect of learning and teaching. CPC, Teljoy and Google have partnered to develop a package that will help your child access the power of tablet technology. Tel joy provide the devices on the versatile android platform, and google provides the platform from which books and other curriculum resources can be downloaded. Globally, the impact of technology in school has been thoroughly researched and documented, and South Africa, as a developing country, is also on track to plugging

into the many advances in technology available in first world countries. Recently, The city of Tshwane embarked on a trail-blazing project to make Wi-Fi available to residents of the City. Making the announcement in the council chambers in Centurion on 15 August 2013, Executive Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa said free Wi-Fi internet connectivity would pro-vide opportunities for people in previously disadvantaged areas to access information and research.

The honour-able mayor added that “We want to say to the young people that it is possible to access infor-mation and participate in the mainstream of the economy.” At CPC, we believe that if educa-tion is about knowl-edge and intellectual skills, then information technology lies at the heart of it all in an information economy.

We have only just begun this transition, however; there is no doubt that schools will eventually look very different to what they do today. We are infinitely proud to be among some of the early adopters of tablets in the classroom in South Africa, and look forward to seeing our learners reap the full benefits of this development.

riting this item for the school magazine, I feel like a contestant in Mastermind. You see, as the principal of this college, I am expected to have

all the right answers ready if any parent should ask me, and I have to address any concerns that you may have. I have to convince you that the schooling we offer is excellent and ideal for your child. I have no difficulty in doing so because I believe that at Christian progressive col-lege we offer an education that is second to none. Our 99% Matric pass rate of last year and other examination and sport results speak for themselves. We are now in 3rd place out of 54 high schools in Tshwane West (not even counting another 100 or so primary schools which we have outdone too.) But this only tells half of the story. As parents you will want the best possible for your child in the broadest sense of the word. So as well as offering a wide range of subjects, we also have many extras to help your child to develop to his full potential. Malcolm S Forbes said “ Education’s purpose is to replace an empty mind with an open one”. That is particularly true in the changing world of today. Technology is moving at a frightening speed and we have to move with it. The career choices that our children will face will be bewildering ones and so we have to ensure that they are open minded and adaptable. Now, that is not in any school book...in the curriculum. It is however something that we take very seriously here at Christian progressive college. We want to ensure that when your child is faced with various career decisions, they will be a position to move from one career to the next if necessary. To do that, they must have a broad rounded education. We pride ourselves on the standard of our teachers and our administrative staff. We also realize though, that our children educate themselves through their interaction with each other, and merely by living. They are influenced greatly by the media and. As you are all aware, that is not always for the better. We try to teach them to evaluate all information that they get, and indeed our teachers attend many courses to enable them to understand these trends. Some things however, never change. Principles and

ethics are among those. We try to ensure that our pupils arehelped to understand the difference between going with the flow and standing up for their beliefs. We try to encour-age them to have the courage of their convictions where applicable. It is also important to us to encourage them to practice their religion and live by its precepts. Above all, we like to challenge our learners to do their best academically and otherwise. We recognize however, that not all of them are going to be exceedingly academically inclined or become professors. That is not important. What is important is that their potential is realized whatever that potential might be. There is no parent who hasn’t had to ask the question why. Real education is about exactly that; ensuring that the learners keep asking questions all their lives. Put simply, our learners are as important to us as your own children are to you.

s I began my new assignment (‘Raise the bar’) at the beginning of August 2013, I was filled with excitement and my head was buzzing with

controversial ideas. I met with the matric prefects, who were quick to let me know about the many advantageous at CPC. Apart from being taught by dedicated staff members, the pupils were grateful for being exposed to different opportunities in which to acquire knowledge, experience and skills. One pupil valued CPC as the bridge to his musical adventure in the brass band. The school motto, Success comes from God, led to many questions and thought provoking discussions. What is success? If you believe in God, does that faith guarantee your success? How does God view success? The last ques-tion proved to be the most challenging one. Looking at the Scriptures, God calls us to love everyone and to live in peace and harmony with one another. His joy is our strength and His grace and mercy is sufficient and new for us every day. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 Sir Winston Churchill has the following to say about success: “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” and “Success is never final. Failure is never fatal. Courage is what counts.” These words of wisdom encourage us to strive for success and excellence in our daily lives. How progressive is our school? Educators who arrange extra lessons and school work camps in order to provide the youngsters with that extra edge needed in examination conditions are rare to find. Yet, at CPC the

teachers go out of their way to facilitate the learning expe-rience to the fullest. On the academic front the teachers were proactive in arranging extra lessons in order to maxi-mize the educational input. 2013 was filled with many enjoyable and memo-rable projects and events such as educational tours, sports activities, athletics, camps, music competitions, school con-certs and farewell functions. In line with our progressive forward thinking, the matrics were allowed to have their farewell function at an outside venue. What a thrilling occasion it was to see our scholars dressed to the nines and looking cool and confident in fashionable evening wear! At the annual concerts the school musicians, danc-ers and performers were applauded for their tiptop shows. The Go Green project initiated by one of the teachers alert-ed everyone to the responsibility placed upon each person to take care of Mother Earth. Maths games for the primary school involving new technology, as well as spelling and poetry festivals were all part of the year’s focus. During November a golf day was held at Swartkop Country club. Some grade ten pupils accompanied us on this outing and it proved to be great fun and of value to all concerned. The money that was raised was spent on purchasing additional teaching aids and adding pizzazz to the foundation phase classrooms. Reaching the end of another year leaves one with a feeling of accomplishment as well as excitement for the year ahead. Equipped with greater insight we look forward to approach 2014 with an even more determined approach to focus on God, who provides us with the ability and opportunities to achieve success.

When the top learners in the Gauteng

province were announced in December

of 2013, none could have been as happy

as CPC’s very own Kgomotso Mamonyane.

Kgomotso joined CPC 13 years ago as

a little boy in grade 0, and blossomed

through the grades to this momentous

achievement.

He achieved top learner status

in the Tshwane West District of Pretoria,

by scoring 6 distinctions on his certificate,

and topped it off by earning an incredible

100% for mathematics.

The year could not have started

off any better for Kgomotso when he and

his parents were invited to join top gov-

ernment officials including the premier

of Gauteng Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane, the

MEC for education Ms. Barbara Creecy and

none other than our esteemed mayor Mr.

Kgosientsho Ramokgopa in celebration.

These were special occasions

for the top achievers, with inspirational

speeches from various speakers, and they

walked away with various gifts.

Christian Progressive College

achieved fantastic results in 2013, with

98.1% pass rate for matric. Well above the

district average, the Gauteng average and

the national average.

A special well done to Mr. Makore

who offers maths for grades 10 to 12. He

achieved 100% pass for maths with 12 out

of 38 matriculants earning between 80%

and 100% in his maths class of 2013. Mr

Makore’s class was awarded a gold medal

for this achievement, following the suc-

cess of the 2012 class with a silver medal,

and the 2011 class with a bronze.

They have put in the hard work

and doors are now open for them. The

top accolades at CPC were achieved by

Kgomotso Mamonyane, as well Tasha

Khoza, who also achieved 6 distinctions.

Kgomotso is off to the University of

Pretoria to study towards an engineering

qualification and Tasha is off to the uni-

versity of Cape Town to study towards a

medical degree.

Congratulations to you all, and

may the wings of our Lord cover you, and

His light and truth show you the way.

The Youth Talk Show

making news

High School years are the most important

and most memorable time in a young per-

son’s life. It is during these years that teens

develop into the young men and women

that they aspire to be in their future. Young

people discover and express themselves

among their peers in an environment that

is meant to both educate them and chal-

lenge them.

Nonetheless, teens are still

expected to negotiate the challenges of

life like everyone else, such as career prepa-

ration, skills development, HIV/AIDs, sex

and sexuality, peer pressure, drugs and

alcohol, pregnancy, social and psychological

issues, parents, poverty, death, relationships,

religion, politics, and many others.

These may be life challenges, but

they are especially difficult for teens to

negotiate because of poor skills, lack of

information and limited resources.

TYTS is a youth talk show which

is presented by teens talking about issues

that affect teens and coming up with solu-

tions together as teens.

The objective of the show is to inspire,

inform, and motivate teens into positive

action.

Moreover, teens are given an

opportunity to not only share the challeng-

es that they face, but also receive support

from their peers.

Christian Progressive College prides itself

for meeting the multiple needs of the

diverse students who go to shcool there.

This lead to a working partner-

ship with Bonjou Media, an end to end

media production and publishing com-

pany, which currently operates from the

premises. This partnership was inspired by

the need for not only a great education by

the learners and their parents, but also an

outlet for their creativity, and a platform

through which to practice their talents.

Bonjou Media has a mandate to

produce material that is both eduation-

al and entertaining, thus promoting the

school, helping foster relationships with

organisations that have an interest in the

wellbeing of our teens, and grooming tal-

ent among the learners at CPC and other

schools.

There are several projects

already off the ground such as the record-

ing of a hip hop album for Levitation, and

of course the annual magazine.

All services provided by Bonjou

Media learners are either free, or attract

a very low fee to indicate commitment

from the side of the learners. Some of the

services include:

• Artist management

• Providing recording studio facilities

• Recording music albums

• Music videos

Exciting projects that are in the pipeline

for 2014 include The Youth Talk Show

(also featured here) and a school drama

series. Both of these shows are anticipated

to air on national TV in the near future.

We also look forward to the quizz

league which is due to start in primary

school. This will explore numeracy, spell-

ing, creative writting and general knowl-

edge.

CELEBRATING 16 YEARS OF SERVICE

INTRODUCING BONJOU MEDIA

Our learners and their colleagues

from other schools are invited to come

and join the team. Various interests are

welcome. Presenters, actors, production

assistants, director’s assistants, writers, sto-

rytellers and many more. Come and share

your story. We know that you are not alone

in your experiences.

We can already feel the excite-

ment and anticipation in the air. For all who

are interested, get in touch with Mr. William.

16 years ago, Christian Progressive College

opened its doors to its very first learners.

At the same time Ms F Motsodisa joined

the team, and has been a welcome, and

significant part of it since.

Ms Motsodisa is from

Hamanskraal, and has two children, and

one grandson. She reflects with a smile

how Paddy and Damali, the Directors of

CPC, have become like family to her, even

helping her with some of the life challeng-

es that she has experienced.

Ms Motsodisa has seen CPC grow

from a small school that was working hard

to meet the diverse needs of its learners,

to one of the best achieving schools in

the city. One thing she appreciates, is the

love and respect that she feels among her

colleagues.

She has a strong love of children, perhaps

that explains her dedication. Ms Motsodisa

says she has seen most of them grow up,

and wants them to keep their “Respect for

people.”

For everyone at CPC, her prayer is

that God will keep us, and grant us more

years together.”

AT THE TOP OF THEIR GAME INSPIRING THE FUTURE

In 2013, our very own educators were recognised and rewarded by the Department of Education for their dedication and commitment to the education of our learners, and their contribution to nurturing a better South Africa.

Mr Florent Marie Mofo WambaMr Mofo has been teaching at CPC since

2008 from Cameroon, where he complet-

ed his primary and high school as well as

a BSc degree in Physical Science at the

University of Dschang. He was awarded

with a bronze medal for 100% pass rate in

maths literacy.

Mr Vincent YenikaMr Yenika started his education in

Cameroon and graduated with a BSC hon-

ours degree in Biochemistry from the

University of Buea. He started his teaching

career at CPC in 2009. He was awarded

a bronze medal in District 15 for Life

sciences

Mr Mutsai MakoreMr. Makore graduated high school in Zim,

and earned his Bachelor of Science degree

with honours in Mathematics. He has been

teaching maths at CPC since 2008. He was

awarded a silver medal in District 15 for

mathematics.

hat makes a good teacher? Like all good recipes, the ingredients for a

teacher’s success in the classroom are simple, easy to follow, and allow for

personal interpretation to enhance the result. A good teacher helps the

child realize his / her strengths and encourages and challenges the student to learn

through those strengths.

Good teaching is an act of generosity, a craft that may grow with practice, and

is always risky business. It comes from the integrity of the teacher and from his / her

relation to the subject and learners.

Congratulations Mr Makore, Mr Mofo and Mr Yenika. You have blessed our

leaners with knowledge and success. You have given them strength and confidence

and made them better human beings. We consider ourselves blessed to have you as

associates, colleagues and friends.

DAYThank you Zwartkop Golf Club for helping us raise funds of love, kind-ness and understanding

hristian Progressive College would like to thank

the Zwartkop Golf Club and its patrons for their

generocity and hospitality. For the first time, CPC

reached out to the broader Pretoria community through

a gold day, thus affording more prominent members the

opportunity to give back.

Like the day was made for the occassion, it was

a stunning day for the golfers on the green. Although our

learners are no competition for the seasoned players, they

were still there showing their support and appreciation.

CPC managed to raise a good amount of money,

that will go towards building a library for learners, as well as

adding to the educational equipment that the learners need.

Going forward, this is an activity that CPC will con-

tinue with. “We don’t all have equal means, and every little

bit counts towards investing in the future of our children.”

human behavior, and of social systems. More than the logic and symmetry of mathemat-ics, it contains a beauty that when J.W.N. Sullivan speaks of it says, “Mathematics, as much as music or any other art, is one of the means by which we rise to a complete self-consciousness. The significance of Mathematics resides precisely in the fact that it is an art; by informing us of the nature of our own minds it informs us of much that depends on our minds.” If you think we are always serious, you haven’t heard any of my jokes: Q: What does the zero say to the the eight? hysical science is one of the learning areas which has developed very positively at Christian Progressive College under the educator Mr. Ziso J.

Primarily, we are much concerned about learners perfor-mance and pass rate. The practical application of the learnt material is one of our main priorities in this discipline. To improve results, we engage learners in morning and after-noon classes to enhance effective learning. We also engage in physical science educational trips to different places and universities. This helps us a lot with our practical skills and a deeper understanding of the subject itself. Through this exercise, learners are exposed to a wide range of scientific knowledge, let alone giving them insight into the importance of science to the world.

lectrical Technology unlocks a world of potential opportunity to any learner taking the subject. It is easy and relatively cheap to set up

and operate an electrical/electronic/digital workshop from home for the purposes of starting a business or to practice

a hobby for personal gain. At CPC we provide learners with theory and practi-cal lessons through simulations and projects. Electrical Technology gives learners study opportu-nities in the following fields:

hat a lucky day Thursday the 13th of June turned out to be for some elderly guests of Christian Progressive College! They were invit-

ed by the schools foundation phase (Grade R-3) to a morn-ing of song and dance. Having weathered the blistering cold that morning, they were treated to hot beverages and delicious cookies. Grandmas and grandpas from all over Pretoria were invited. The VIP’s being the elderly from the Leratong old age home in Soshanguve. The oldest guest was ninety nine years old and she received a special award and gift from the learners. The old age home also received grocery hampers which the learners themselves had collected over the pre-vious few months. Each guest received a little gift to make them feel special and a tasty hot meal was served to every-one at lunch. The manager of Leratong said the next day: “thank

you Christian Progressive College, you made us feel like kings and queens. International Mandela Day on the 18th of July pro-vided another opportunity for our young leaners to extend a hand of generosity to our community. The idea of Mandela Day was inspired by Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday celebrations in London’s Hyde Park in 2008 when he said: “It is time for new hands to lift the burdens. It is in your hands now.” All people’s of the world are encouraged to give at least 67 minutes of their time on that day. A representation of the 67 years that Nelson Mandela spent fighting the battle for human rights on our behalf. he importance of diversity in schools is that it pro-motes adaptation to multi-culturalism in education which leads to a society without discrimination.

Diversity eradicates superiority and prejudice tendencies from society. The young learners at CPC embraced multi-culturalism by celebrating the diverse cultures of the children of the world, with presentations on different cultural wear and culturally influ-enced performances. There was a lot of laughter, a lot of screaming, but more importantly, the learners left having learnt that their neighbour’s culture is just as rich and diverse and their own. Our sincere wish is that more than anything, the learners went away loving their neighbour as they do themselves.

usic is part of our lives whether we realise it or not. Here at CPC, we love and appreciate the learners who take part in the band and in the

choir, where they pique our interest with their art, and warm our hearts with their notes. The band at CPC has been operating for 10 years, and has seen remarkable growth over the years. To the band members, this is not just an extra mural activity, but a family away from home. The band has participated in numerous activities over the years, such as the welcoming of the 2010world cup, performing at corporate events and Marching alongside police against substance abuse and police kill-ings. In 2013, under the guidance of the band master Brian Boucher, the band participated in the National Orchestra Competition against other schools across the country, where in the marching band sections they achieved 3rd position overall.

The school choir was started in 2012 under the guidance of music teacher and conductor Mandla Ntlhatlane. The choir certainly started with a bang and have already achieved multiple accolades. In 2012, they won second position in the District 15 competitions, and in 2013 won 3rd place in the regional competitions. The choir also achieved gold certifi-cate and silver certificate in UNISA competitions. We can’t wait to see you all in your splendour in 2014.

THE CHAMPIONS...The goal of high school is to ed-ucate our young people so that they may become productive cit-izens, over and above achieving great academic accolades

he benefits of sports as part of the education process and in achieving this goal are abundant and sometimes beyond quan-tification. Anderson:2012 cites in his research that “Girls who

compete in sports get better grades, graduate at a higher rate and have more confidence. The vast majority avoid unplanned pregnancies, drugs, obesity, depression, and suicide.” Moreover, it has been found that in the workplace, athletes bring to the table discipline, teamwork, a drive for success, the desire to be held accountable and a willingness to have their performance measured. The more immediate benefits of participating in school sports for learners include:

• Weight control• Problem-solving skills• Self-esteem• Social competence• Academic Achievement

At CPC, we encourage our learners to participate in sports, respect themselves and their teams, and play to win! The sporting codes that are available include soccer, rugby, netball, track and field, swimming, chess and others.

uccess comes from God” (Proverbs 22 vs 6) is our motto. Yes it’s true and

we have experienced true success in Foundation Phase in the previous years. Our Phase has been grow-ing from strength to strength every year. Currently our numbers have increased to two hundred and eighty learners from Grade R – 3. Meaning that the number of educators has increased as well to eight to balance the teacher pupil ratio. The manage-able size of classes and the hygienic family based atmosphere are excel-lent for staff morale, ensuring long service and strongly committed edu-cators. This promotes delivery of quality education in its totality to our children and this is evident in our academic achievements, educational excursions, excellent performance in sports and other curriculum activi-ties as well as in our children’s moral behavior. We adopted child –centered

education to maximize each and every learner’s potential and we aim to produce 100% ability in speak-ing, reading and writing skills in all learning areas as well as in computer skills. Foundation Phase takes pride in talented children who are in the School Brass Band, (Langelihle Mahlangu and Blessing Vilakazi). We also appreciate the hard work by all our Phase Prefects under the lead-ership of Batjhoboke Maphosa and Kgabo Makgakga to maintain disci-pline and order in the phase. Last but not least I would like to congratulate all the educators for hard work and the spirit of team work: Mrs Deerling (Grade R), Mrs Mokoena (Grade 1A), Mrs Matambo (Grade 1B), Mrs Vorster (Grade 1C), Miss Matlala (Grade 2A), Mrs Mufandaidza (Grade 3A) and Miss Chiwara (Grade 3B). 013 was a hectic year, but with strong hardworking and professional educa-

tors, we managed to conquer. The grade 12 results were 99% pass rate in 2012 and 98% pass rate in 2013. The results dropped by a single percentage point, however, when comparing the two, it is clear that the quality of results was higher in 2013. The Gauteng result was a pass rate of 87%, while nationally it was 78%, meaning that CPC topped both. We have started to work even harder this year. We have a programme in place where learners will attend lessons every afternoon from 2:30 to 16:00 and there is also a programme that will see learners use their holiday time to put themselves in the best position to excel this year. During the holidays, both teachers and learners will attend educational camps organised by the school. The main purpose of this is that we need to finish the syllabus

during the June holidays, which leaves us ample time to prepare for evalu-ations. This was we can help reduce the amount of pressure that learners experience when preparing for exams. We would like to thank every-one who has supported us in achieving the successes that we have enjoyed thus far. We would also like to appeal for even more support in this year since we aim to achieve a pass rate of 100% as 2014 is CPC’s year. To our esteemed educators, you have set the bar high. Now the challenge is to reach and exceed the standard. We are confident that we can expect only the best from you. To the parents of our learn-ers, we are honoured that you have entrusted us with the education of your children. Rest assured that we care about their success as much as you do. Stay blessed

here are several transitions in a learner’s life in school, some of high importance, and some that come and go unnoticed.

None, are as exciting and pregnant with hope as the transition between primary and high school, and even more so, the end of the school career marked by the matric dance. It is in this spirit that CPC takes pride in pulling out all the stops to celebrate these important moments in our young learners’ lives. At CPC, we don’t roll out the red carpet only for the matric dance, we do the same for our Grade 7 learn-ers going to high school. On the 30th August 2013, the Grade 7 class cele-brated their farewell with much fanfare, performances and awards. The lovely Grade 6 learners, dressed in black with a touch of red, chipped in to make the occasion even more special.

The young men and women were full of excite-ment and some entertained their colleagues “007”style. The matric dance night is a night that all Grade 12 young ladies and gents dream about the entire year, and is usually filled with glitz and glamour. The build-up starts long before invitations are issued, with fundraising, finding

a date and finally, many hours of shopping for the perfect outfit. All thanx go to the teachers who were involved in organising the evenings. Ms. Nelia van der Merwe, Ms. Felicity Ramalekana, Ms. Pulane Malatji and others; Your dedication to the all-round wellbe-ing of our learners does not go unnoticed. To all the learners who man-

aged to come, you have shown yourselves to be ready for the next phase of your lives. Emrace it and go MAD. From delicious meals, to delicate desserts. From motivational speeches, to rocking it out on the dance floor. The nights were all that was expected and more…

CREATIVE VOICESWhen we choose friends, we have to choose wisely. Some might be angels in disguise, some might not be angels afterall. In this lifetime, we have to remember that not everyone will love us. Yes, they might laugh, smile and hang out with you, but do we know what is behind that smile? No we don’t. We have to know that we have 3 types of friends, I will use a tree as an ex-ample. The leaf: We all know that trees are there in summer, but in winter they fall off. This means that type of friend will be there during all the happy times, but as days get darker, they are not there. The branch: As you know, branches of a tree will always be there, but as soon as a storm comes they fall off. This simply means a friend who will always be there, but there will come a challenge that they will not be able to face with you. The roots: A tree may fall, but the roots will always remain. This means a friend who will always be there. The real question is which friend are you? The root, the branch or the leaf. There is a quote that says “Good friends are hard to find, harder to leave and impossible to forget. I hope you are one of the few that are hard to find, harder to leave,

and impossible to forget.

Friendship : an essay by LEBOHANG MLANGENI

Don’t you wish you could see the galaxy? And be away from all the pain, grief and anxiety? Just to travel to space, At a very wild pace

While we travelWe’d see very fine gravelIt would feel so rightTo see all the stars shinning bright

We are still in the spaceship, safe and soundAlthough we feel it go round and roundWe would surely enjoy the rideEven though it would be for a short while

Just to see the galaxy’s wild sideWe’d see beautiful creaturesThat have very abnormal features

We would see tiny things that look as ravishing as rosesAnd we’d take snapshots while making weird posesWhile we are on the moonWe would start to wonder if we will see our loved ones soon

For sure we’d enjoy the rideEven if it’s for a short whileFor we’d be making memories of a lifetime.

A trip to space : a poem by LEBOHANG MLANGENI

Our featured learner in this issue is Lebohang Mlangeni in Grade 8B. Lebohang is currently top of her grade and enjoys poetry and de-bate.

GOD LOVES ME

he Bible says, “God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life”

The problem is that . . . All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have separated us from God. The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says “The wages of sin is death.” The Good news is that about 2,013 years ago, God sent His only son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. “God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in Heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me. God reaches out in Love to you and wants you to become His child. “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins, and come in your life as your Lord and

Saviour. If you want to accept Christ as your Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this:

If you have prayed this prayer, come let us talk more about how we can love Him back.

WHO? ME?

YES YOU!!!

HE LOVES YOU SO MUCH

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may dis-cern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable

and perfect. Romans 12:2Ps. MONUGA , T
