Dear FrienDs,

As a community, we are facing an enormous challenge. More than 8,000 pre-born children are losing their lives to abortion each year in South Hampton Roads.

Many of you may be overwhelmed by such a grotesque statistic. Coming to the aid of these children and their mothers seems so impossible that you are not sure what to do. You may want to quickly give up and do nothing because you believe your efforts

would be insignificant … only a drop in the bucket.

One drop will not fill a bucket, but many drops will. If 1,000 people become sponsored walkers in this year’s Walk for Life, we will accomplish a goal never reached in this ministry’s history, but more importantly, more lives and hearts will be rescued from abortion.

As God has drawn more supporters to CPC, CPC has been able to reach more women. As CPC has reached more women, the abortion trend in our community has reversed and gone down over the last five years. By the grace of God, let’s work together to continue this trend!

Our theme for this year’s Walk is “RESCUE”. Get it? U Rescue. Yes, You! Everyone can be a part of rescuing moms and babies because everyone can participate in the Walk for Life! It’s a fun, easy event that is vital to the ongoing work of CPC.

You can be a rescuer! Because of God’s work through you in this year’s Walk for Life, children, women and families can be spared from a horrible tragedy.

We are working through the final logistics of opening the new LIFE-affirming medical clinic in Virginia Beach. One thousand sponsored walkers at this year’s Walk would be a tremendous blessing at this critical moment. So, come on fellow rescuers, let’s Walk for Life!

See you in April!

Toby DeBause, President

letter from the preSident

Every client gets a Bible! Thanks to generous donations from community members and LifeWay Christian Stores, we have received enough Bibles to distribute to each of our clients at The Keim Centers! What a blessing! We are thrilled at each opportunity we have to share the Gospel with our clients. Now we can provide educational tools to not only help our clients during their pregnancy, but also during their spiritual growth.

If you are interested in providing Bibles to pregnancy resource centers such as CPC of Tidewater, visit a local LifeWay Christian Store to learn more!

Why walk? Each year in South Hampton Roads, an average of 8,000 children lose their lives to abortion. That’s 1 abortion for every 2 births. These are innocent lives in need of rescue.

In 2010 alone, we served more than 1,600 clients. Your participation in the Walk for Life 2011 as a sponsored walker will help support women and pre-born children in our community. The financial support you raise this year will help us provide confidential services at no cost to our clients, including ultrasound, medical consultation, pregnancy tests, crisis counseling, parenting education and much more! This is the time for YOU to help rescue!

Join us!We are excited to Walk for Life in 2011! Register online at www.cpcfriends.org/walk and use your enclosed pledge form to sign up sponsors today!

Connect with us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/cpcfriends) or Twitter (@cpcfriends) for updates, and sign up for our weekly challenge e-mails – we have some great prizes this year!

real life

When Joan and her boyfriend first visited The Keim Centers, they were not expecting to have a second child. “There was a lot of stuff going on in my mind,” Joan recalled. “[I kept thinking] I cannot have another baby. What are my parents going to think? I was really confused on what to do.”

Through ongoing support from advocates at the center and return visits for ultrasound, Joan and her boyfriend reached a decision to carry their baby to term and parent their child.

“When we went to get an ultrasound, we found out it was a boy,” Joan said. “At The Keim Centers, [the advocate] explained everything to me and made me realize that it’s alive. It’s not just something we can get rid of – it’s a life. It’s a little baby. It’s my own son. I was about to kill an innocent one, and he’s already alive. He has a heartbeat and everything – you can’t just get rid of that.”

Currently, Joan’s boyfriend is working to support their family. Joan’s family assists with childcare so she can complete her GED and continue pursuing her education.

“Before you have a baby, life is totally different,” Joan said. “Even though it’s hard, [becoming a mother] changes you for the better. It’s all worth it once you see your baby. Being a mom keeps you learning every day. No matter how hard, it’s fulfilling.”

Jaydem will celebrate his first birthday this March. Joan is also starting classes to prepare for Jaydem and his older brother, Lawrence, to be christened.

Joan and her son, Jaydem, (also pictured on cover) are actual clients. Their names and likenesses have not been changed.

annual Benefit Banquet .On October 26, 2010, we were honored to fill the Chesapeake Conference Center with 1,200 individuals sensitive to rescuing the lives of pre-born children in South Hampton Roads (pictured below). Toby DeBause, President of CPC, displayed a powerful visual aid of the 86,498 lives lost to abortion in South Hampton Roads from 2000 to 2009.

Dr. Tony evans (pictured at right) delivered a compelling message, challenging all in attendance to keep our perspectives in line with God’s perspective.

Mark your calendar for Monday, November 7, 2011, when we welcome Bruce Wilkinson (pictured at left) as our Annual Benefit Banquet guest speaker! Bruce Wilkinson is the best-selling author of The Prayer of Jabez and A Life God Rewards, as well as a media producer with a heart for life-affirming ministry.

We were thrilled to honor numerous Walk for Life 2010 participants, including Jenny “the jewel” Jensen (pictured at right) – top walker for several years running. Are you ready to challenge Jenny’s record of $5,626? Get involved with the Walk for Life 2011 at www.cpcfriends.org/walk!

Welcome to CPC, Bruce Wilkinson!

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after the orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” James 1:27 NIV

“CPC is an expression of the Body of Christ coming together to share the love of Christ in a tangible way. As more churches become involved in the ministry of CPC, more lives are saved and more hearts are spared from a terrible tragedy for His glory.”

Volunteer Spotlight

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN

Did you know that almost every photo you see in CPC’s materials is an actual client – NOT a purchased stock photo? After talking with one of The Keim Centers’ nurse managers at church, Tracey Sanders’ heart was touched by CPC’s ministry. In 2008, Tracey photographed the Walk for Life at The Virginia Zoo and began sharing her gifts with CPC. Since then, Tracey has photographed numerous clients and many events for CPC.

“I was probably like many people, who didn’t think much about abortion, although I have always been pro-life,” Tracey said. “The statistics I have learned about abortions are staggering. I can’t un-know what I now know. I believe God always has a plan. I am excited to see how God will use me to His glory through this ministry.”

After “retiring” from mechanical engineering to stay home with her two children (pictured at left), Tracey’s interest in photography developed into a new career. She continually puts everyone on the other side of her camera at ease. To see more of Tracey’s work, visit www.traceysandersphotography.com. Thank you, Tracey, for blessing us with your talents!

In February 2007, Nancy Snader entered The Keim Center of Norfolk as a volunteer advocate. Nancy’s sparkling personality was evident from the beginning, as she began ministering to hurting and broken women who are struggling with unplanned pregnancies. The love that Nancy has for our young women is so apparent, whether it is seen in the counseling sessions while discussing their difficult situations and decisions about their options, or on the phone following up with clients by encouraging them. Nancy has gone to the hospital to visit her clients and take them baby items when they have delivered – above and beyond any requirement of a client advocate.

With the help of Nancy’s inspiration and enthusiasm, her church has joyfully showered our Great Expectations parenting class clients several times with beautiful and practical gifts for their coming babies. Nancy commits to volunteering several days a week, as well as the first Saturday of each month.

We are so appreciative of our “Fancy Nancy.” Nancy is a joy to have in The Keim Center of Norfolk where she is equally appreciative of her “pay”: Hershey’s Chocolate Nuggets. Nancy, you have been such a blessing to The Keim Centers!

HeLpinG HanDsIn 2010 as we focused on renovating The Keim Center of Portsmouth, we were honored by numerous gifts of service. BB&T allowed 27 members of their Operations Team to spend their work time volunteering to our ministry ... adding up to nearly 150 hours of service! These employees went on to personally purchase diapers, wipes, baby clothes and much more for a Great Expectations baby shower. As if this was not enough, BB&T donated more than $1,100 of supplies, including new Pella storm doors. Thank you for your generosity and support!
