The Academy of Hair & Beauty, Skipton We have two Hair & Beauty salons in the centre of Skipton plus the sports therapy base at The Auction Mart. All offer professional modern training facilities for Craven College students studying hairdressing, beauty and sports therapy.

All of our staff have relevant and current industrial experience and regularly update their skills, giving you the best tuition and guidance. As a bonus all Craven College students receive a 10% discount on available services at the salons. New Hair & Beauty facilities for the High Street Campus are currently being planned.

The Aireville Campus Gargrave Road, Skipton

Our main campus is located next to Aireville Park. Here you will find our School of Art, Media & Performance which has a long-standing reputation for excellence. Courses are taught in a stimulating and creative environment in an extensive, modern purpose built centre including a permanent radio station. Our business, management and computing courses are also taught on this campus with up-graded teaching and specialist IT suites. It is also the centre for delivering our education and early years provision, health related subjects, travel & tourism, sport, outdoor & public services and humanities courses and is home to our A Level Centre. You will also find The Hub – home to Student Services, The Shop and The Enterprise Zone. In September 2011 we opened the Pen-y-ghent building including 20 additional large teaching spaces, state of the art science suite, dedicated Life Skills area and Changing Places facility and much more.

The Aviation Academy Leeds Bradford International Airport

All our aviation related programmes are delivered at our prestigious, unique air-side campus at Leeds Bradford International Airport so that you can experience the real world of work within the aviation industry.

Because we carry out training for the aviation industry we are always up-to-date in what we do and you will benefit from this. Our tutors have been recruited from the industry too and will be able to guide you towards your career aspirations through their wealth of experience and contacts. You can even take flying lessons with one of our partner organisations as one of the many benefits of the location.

Centre for Construction & Heritage Skills Airedale Business Park, Skipton

The unique and ground breaking Centre for Construction & Heritage Skills is designed to deliver both contemporary and traditional craft skills. In addition to the well equipped workshops for practical construction skills training, within over 5500 square metres of purpose built facilities, there are heritage workshops for blacksmithing, forge work, stone carving and stained glass making. There is a state of the art materials testing laboratory and classroom IT facilities.

In September 2011 a new and improved joinery classroom and machine shop opened to add to the existing facilities. The substantial workshops offer industry standard training facilities.

Centre for Rural & Equine Studies Auction Mart, Skipton

The centre provides a wide range of courses run by exceptionally skilled and experienced teaching staff. Situated in the centre of Skipton’s Auction Mart complex, it benefits from close contact with the agricultural businesses based there. There is an extensive horticulture unit and a garden design studio; a fully equipped rural mechanics and motor vehicle workshop; a purpose built equestrian centre; a construction area for land based skills; a dry stone walling site and an animal care unit. In September 2011 a new animal unit and workshop and rural mechanics workshop opened at the centre. Teaching areas are well equipped with IT facilities. The centre is also used as the base for our outdoor activities programmes with a climbing wall to enable students to develop practical climbing and instruction skills. (When not in use for teaching purposes, it can be used by college students under supervision.)

Centre for Service Industries High Street, Skipton

Set in the heart of Skipton is the original college building. This is our Centre for Service Industries housing catering, hospitality, hair and beauty courses. In September 2011 a new state of the art catering training kitchen opened in the High Street Campus.

We also operate commercial salons and the Brasserie restaurant so our students can experience what it is like to apply their practical skills in a real working environment and understand issues around running a business. As an additional bonus any student can use these facilities.

Our CampusesSubstantial investment has gone into creating attractive, well resourced campuses where you can study in safety and comfort. We encourage our students to be actively involved with the college and joining our Student Council is a great way to be part of student led initiatives, directly influencing life on our college campuses. We continue to invest significant funds in our accommodation to provide industry standard facilities for all our students.

We arrange various activities and trips to provide breaks from study and develop your social and organisational skills. College students have raised money through fundraising events and activities for many good causes locally and nationally like Comic Relief, Kenyan Orphanage Sponsorship Trust (KOST), Children in Need, Help for Heroes and Cancer Research. NUS (National Union of Students) Craven College is affiliated to the NUS. This means as a full or part-time student you will be entitled to become a card holding member. There are two cards available, one being the free ‘white’ or ‘democratic’ card which allows you to become a member of the NUS, and vote at elections. The other is an upgraded version called the ‘Extra’ card. This card will cost in the region of £10 and enables you to take advantage of discounts from local and national retail outlets. Academy of Hair & Beauty The Craven College Academy of Hair & Beauty offers a complete range of hairdressing, beauty, make-up, holistic and sports therapies. All Craven College students receive a 10% discount on available services.

Craven College Radio Following a number of years of successful broadcasting we have developed a new permanent radio station. The station enables learners across all disciplines to get involved with the radio station for broadcasting college related events or charity work.

EnterpriseIn today’s economic climate it is important that you equip yourself with the skills and knowledge to succeed. Enterprise can inspire and motivate you as part of the future workforce. Skills such as team building, communication, leadership and creativity are essential for business startups and employment opportunities. A student committee is formed at the beginning of the year to manage enterprise activities and you are welcome to attend. At Craven College we aim to support and develop your entrepreneurial skills in order to equip you for the businesses challenges ahead.

Centre for Football DevelopmentThe Centre for Football Development is available to talented football players who wish to follow a full-time education programme at college and receive expert coaching to develop their football ability. You will receive coaching and may end up playing in the English Colleges Football Association League (ECFAL).

Centre for Rugby DevelopmentThe Centre for Rugby Development is available for talented rugby players, who wish to follow a full-time education programme at college and receive expert coaching to develop their rugby ability. We provide high quality training and coaching and the opportunity to play rugby against other colleges and schools combined with a full-time education programme.

Further Sports DevelopmentWe have a wide range of opportunities for students across college to participate in competitive team sports, including cricket, netball and rounders.

At our Auction Mart campus we also have a climbing wall to enable students to develop practical climbing and instruction skills. When not in use for teaching purposes, this facility can be used by all college students under supervision.


Student SupportThe Student Services team is at the heart of student support at Craven College. The team understands that starting a new course can be daunting and sometimes you may need help to ensure you have the best possible start. Within the team there are specialist staff who can help with personal, financial and welfare issues.

Information, Advice & Guidance (IAG)The college IAG service is MATRIX accredited. As a student you can access Information, Advice and Guidance through a structured tutorial programme. For example, help with UCAS applications, job seeking and volunteering opportunities. You can book an appointment with a careers advisor or a member of the Student Services team to discuss your individual circumstances.

Careers Information & AdviceCareers advice is a part of each course and takes place in various ways, such as industrial and educational visits, assignment work, talks and discussions in class or with a Connexions Advisor. You will have access to a fully equipped Careers Centre and attend a UCAS Higher Education Convention.

Health & WelfareYou can access support on a range of issues related to your health and welfare, for example, healthy eating or staying safe. Student Services staff provide drop-in health advice sessions in conjunction with the Local Health Authority Services for Young People. We have excellent links with local agencies which support young people and their families, including issues related to housing, benefits, substance abuse or relationships.

Learning Support ServicesIf you have already been receiving support at school our Learning Support Service will liaise with your teacher, if necessary, to ensure a smooth transition to the college.

However, many of us have needs which have not been recognised, so as part of the admissions process you will have the opportunity to go through a comprehensive assessment.

We provide a range of support, including: − Dyslexia support available on a one to one or group basis − Sensory impairment support − Voice recognition software available on many computers − Facilities for those with mobility difficulties − A variety of aids, assistive and adaptive equipment for people with various disabilities − Help with note taking and other individual support needs provided by qualified Student Support assistants − The Students with Learning Difficulties and/or Disabilities (LLDD) Network in which Craven College is involved ensures we have a consistent approach to policy responses and developments and has enabled us to fully support students.

Counselling ServiceSometimes you may feel that you may need to talk to someone about a variety of issues either on a personal level or to do with college work. Counselling can help with a range of issues including anxiety and panic attacks, stress, depression, eating problems, self-confidence, relationships, loss and grief, general unhappiness, low self-esteem and study related difficulties. The college has a team of trained counsellors who offer a valuable service to students.

Additional Learning SupportNo two students are the same and Craven College understands the importance of valuing people as individuals. Through our various services to students we can provide a network of support to help you get the most out of your course.

Mentoring SchemeOur learning mentors help remove barriers to learning by giving you extra support and encouragement to help you reach your full potential.

Travelling to CollegeFunding & Finance

The Government has introduced a new 16-19 bursary fund for schools, colleges and skills training providers. The fund provides support to those facing difficulty continuing their education.

What is the new bursary scheme and how can I apply?The bursary scheme is made up of 2 parts:

− Guaranteed Bursary If you are in care, a care leaver, in receipt of Income Support or a disabled young person and in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance you will be entitled to a guaranteed bursary. Contact Student services for a Bursary application form.

− Discretionary Bursary If you do not qualify for the guaranteed bursary you may be able to apply for some funds to support things like travel, materials/equipment or other course related costs.

Bursaries for Books & Equipment Dependent on household income (less than £20,100 per year) you may be eligible for some help with equipment, specialist clothing or books.

Is there support for childcare costs?If you are under 20 when you begin your studies and use registered childcare you may be able to get assistance with childcare costs from Care to Learn. They can be contacted on 0800 121 8989.

19+ Financial SupportIf your household income is under £11,810 as a single person or £20,817 if you live with a partner you may be eligible for help with books and equipment from the new Adult Student Support Fund.

Childcare for Students aged 20+ For students aged over 20 the college has support funds available to assist with childcare costs. This is assessed on both income and attendance.

Charitable Trust The Charitable Trust may help anyone who needs financial assistance whilst studying at Craven College. Applications are dealt with on an individual basis by the Trustees.

Army Bursary SchemeBased on the college’s proven successful track record in public services training, we have been chosen as a partner in the Army Bursary scheme. The Army works in partnership with the college to support courses prior to joining the Army. If you are accepted on to the scheme and successfully complete your course you will receive a bursary.

Residential grantFunding may be available to assist students who live more than 15 miles from Skipton and need to move or lodge locally in order to attend their course.

Travelling to college can be expensive, but don’t worry, we have put in place a £1 a day maximum cost per principal journey to college.

Aged 16–18?Everyone will be expected to pay the first £1 per day on their principal journey to college based on the cheapest form of travel by public transport and making use of available travel passes.

If your principal journey is more than £1 per day and is within the college’s designated area the college will pay the excess up to £200 per term. You must be enrolled on a full-time further education course at the college.*

Learning Difficulties and/or DisabilitiesApplications for special transport from special needs students are considered by the local authorities on their individual circumstances.

To establish the transport needs exactly, the local authority may ask you to send them a letter from your Doctor or designated Medical Officer. If they have had a Statement of Special Educational Needs, this will be carefully considered.

If the application for special transport is approved, this will be arranged by Integrated Passenger Transport Group who will write to you with details of the arrangements.

Driving & Parking at Craven CollegeFor those who travel by car, provided there is no cheaper form of travel by public transport, the college will make a payment to you as driver of 13 pence per mile for the return journey, excluding the first 15 miles per day, based on standard mileages.

The college will make a travel grant of up to £200 per term (subject to funding) to assist with your travel costs in excess of this mileage. Motorbike riders will be reimbursed at a lower mileage rate.

Any student who wishes to park at the Aireville Campus car park in the day time (0830 – 1700) will require a valid Student Car Park Permit for each academic year. The annual permit costs £4 and is issued subject to you completing and signing the college’s user agreement and application for a car park permit.

How to ClaimAt the end of each term you will complete and sign a Travel Form which you can obtain from the student VLE or Student Services. You must attach all bus/train tickets for the principal journeys you are claiming for.

Low Carbon & Healthy LivingThe college is keen to support and promote both healthy living and measures to reduce pollution. We encourage all staff and students to use alternative methods of transport where possible and to consider walking, cycling or car sharing.

Whether you want to study A Levels, an Apprenticeship or a Vocational course, the choice and support for your chosen route is always available at Craven College.

Foundation LearningFoundation learning is designed to help you find your way and is ideal if you are not yet sure of where you wish to take your career. It provides the opportunity to study and gain skills whilst you decide upon the areas which appeal to you, and may begin to highlight a direction for your continued study. Adults Returning to LearnStudents of any age or experience are welcome to apply for any for the full-time courses we offer. Returning to learn will improve your job prospects, help you make a fresh start and reach your full potential. For further information turn to page 66.

A LevelsThese Level 3 qualifications provide recognised building blocks to progress to Higher Education opportunities such as degree study, which can be continued at Craven College or through university. A Levels can be taken in a whole variety of subjects and you can mix and match with other courses. For further information turn to page 23.

ApprenticeshipsFor those who don’t want to continue in full-time study we offer Apprenticeships up to Level 3. This has the advantage that you can earn whilst you learn. Apprenticeships give you an alternative way of building your career; through college attendance and ongoing workplace assessment you will create a skills portfolio and gain a recognised qualification. Vocational Diploma Study RouteIf you are a hands on student and know in which sector you want to make your career or Higher Education, then studying a Diploma or Extended Diploma at Level 3 may suit you best. Courses consist of taught classes, seminars, practical workshops, virtual learning environments and self-directed study. Your course may also include work experience. Your full-time course will be based on a particular employment sector such as the arts, catering, horticulture, hairdressing, aviation or construction. As well as classroom based learning, you will have hands on experience of your chosen vocational area, using industry standard equipment. You can use these qualifications to go into employment or Higher Education. For further information turn to page 59.

In 2011 Craven College students celebrated success across a wide range of A Levels with over 30 subjects studied with a 100% pass rate in 29 subjects including Languages, Art & Design subjects, the Sciences, Photography, Maths and Business and an overall pass rate of 98%. A* grades were achieved across 6 subject areas plus the AQA Baccalaureate had a 100% pass rate.

Craven College’s A Level Centre offers the broadest range of subjects in the local area, combining academic rigour with a vibrant learning environment on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. We aim to provide a range of subjects that are not always available in schools, to broaden your choices and opportunities for study which can lead to a greater range of employment and Higher Education opportunities.

There are opportunities to specialise in course related subjects, resulting in an in–depth knowledge of particular areas. Each A Level description indicates complementary A Level choices for that particular subject and points to possible career choices. You are advised to apply early as demand for popular subjects is high.

A Level CoursesTo study A Levels at Craven College you will require five GCSEs, A*-C. Equivalent level qualifications such as BTECs are accepted, but the five A*-Cs (or equivalents) must come from at least four subject areas. These must include English and Maths at A*-C.

If you achieve Grade D and above at AS Level, you may continue onto the A2 Level programme with three A2 Level subjects.

Full–time A Levels are normally allocated 4.5 hours per week unless there are small numbers, in which case the hours will be reduced accordingly, (however, this means that there will be a more beneficial tutor to student ratio). Classes with very low numbers will not run.

If you have studied a subject at GCSE, you must have achieved at least grade C in order to study it at A Level; some individual subjects will require a grade B (see individual subject entry requirements).

If you are changing centres to continue with A2 Level study at Craven College you must have achieved at least a grade C at AS Level. Proof of certification is required, and the subject tutor will need to confirm that our A2 programme is compatible with your AS qualification.

Science and MathsFor Sciences and Maths courses entry is subject to achieving 45 points on the Student Achievement Tracker which measures the progression in qualifications of 16–19 year olds based on their prior attainment. This is a national system that uses GCSE results to predict A Level achievement and will be discussed with you at interview. This allows us to predict the suitability of the course for you.

Who are A Levels for? Our A Levels are aimed at anyone who wants to go on to higher education, needs Level 3 qualifications for employment, or wants to study a subject in depth.

How many A Levels do people study?You will take four subjects at AS level and then specialise in three subjects at A2 level.

Is the fourth AS Level worth anything, if you don’t complete the full A Level?Yes. The AS is a distinct qualification, worth half an A Level and UCAS points.

What are UCAS points?Universities and higher education institutions make offers based on UCAS points. A full A Level at grade A is worth 120 points, at AS it is worth 60 points, Grade B 80 points etc.

What do I have to do to get an A*?In order to get an A*, you have to get an A overall for your A level, and score 90 per cent or more of the total A2 marks available on each unit. It is being awarded for full A levels only, not for AS levels or for individual units.

What extra things will I do alongside my A Levels?At the Centre for A Levels we try to develop all our full–time students into expert learners. This will vastly improve your applications for university or a career and fully equip you both for your A Level study and for what comes afterwards.

What will I have to do to become an expert learner?You will research and write an extended project on a chosen subject, greatly enhancing research skills for your A Levels and future study. You also have the opportunity to develop English and Maths skills as they directly relate to your studies.

What is a Baccalaureate and can I do the qualification?The AQA Baccalaureate is an over-arching qualification which is nationally recognised, and desired by many of the top universities. Students who take the AQA Baccalaureate will study Citizenship AS alongside their 3 main A Levels, and will also engage in community participation as well as complete the Extended Project Qualification.

3D Design

3D Design will introduce you to a variety of experiences exploring a range of 3D media and techniques. Drawing, using different media, processes and scale underpinned by the use of sketchbooks. AS Level Textiles is a course which offers you the opportunity to explore a multitude of skills such as machine and hand embroidery, handmade paper, fabric printing, batik, tie dye and many others.

These skills and techniques combined with images and other sources of inspiration can also be used to produce fabric, garment construction and exotic surfaces for interior design.

Craven College Apprenticeships achieve above the national average year on year. Last year pass rates for students aged 16–19 years at Craven College were 87.2% National Average 72.4%.

Businesses need employees who can combine technical knowledge with practical skills. Apprenticeships can help you to begin a career in a chosen industry, learn practical skills and achieve nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning money.

You will receive work-based training from your employer and will normally attend college one day a week. If you already have a job you may be eligible to receive free training and gain qualifications as an Apprentice. We can help you to find the kind of work you are looking for and provide the support and training necessary.

Apprenticeships usually last between 12 and 24 months depending on your area of interest, ability and prior experience. Most Apprenticeships offer the potential to progress from a Level 2 Apprenticeship to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. You can then choose to progress onto Higher Education. On application you will be assigned an Apprenticeship Co-ordinator. Your co-ordinator will help you decide which Apprenticeship is right for you and help you find an appropriate employer. They will monitor your training and employment and support you throughout your Apprenticeship.

To study an Apprenticeship at Craven College you ideally will require three GCSEs grade A*-C.

Alongside these general entry qualifications, each Apprenticeship may have its own specific entry requirements which are included on the following pages with each Apprenticeship.

All Apprenticeships require an interview and experience will be taken into consideration.

What sort of person is accepted on to an Apprenticeship? In addition to the above requirements, to do an Apprenticeship, you will need to be able to show that you can use your own initiative and have fully researched the career area you want to work in, and that you are the right person for the job.

You will also need to be aware of your responsibilities to both yourself and the company who employs you.

You will need to be committed and willing to work. Working well on your own as well as in a team is another important requirement and you must be happy to work in both ways. As a student on an Apprenticeship you need to be realistic about the amount of work you may have to do and you should be prepared for further study.

What is an Apprenticeship?Businesses need employees who can combine technical knowledge with practical skills. Apprenticeships are a route by which you can begin a career in a chosen industry, learn practical skills and achieve nationally recognised qualifications. Apprenticeships are government backed training schemes aimed primarily at people aged between 16- 25, and now, because of their success are being extended to cover a wider age group. You will receive work-based training from your employer and will normally attend college one day a week. You will study towards a nationally recognised qualification which will demonstrate your practical competency and knowledge in your chosen area.

Are there different levels of Apprenticeships?Yes, there are two different levels of Apprenticeships available; Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships. We will help you choose the one that’s right for you based on your experience and the job opportunities within your chosen area. There may be Higher Level Apprenticeships available in the near future which will be equivalent to a Level 4 Foundation Degree.

How long do Apprenticeships take?There is no set time to complete an Apprenticeship as they vary widely in content and size. The length of time taken will depend on your ability, prior experience and your employer’s requirements. An Apprenticeship will usually take anything from 12 to 24 months at Level 2 and a direct Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship could take up to three years, so a large degree of commitment on your part is required.

Do I need to be employed when starting my Apprenticeship?If you already have a job with a small company, large employer or within your family business, you may already be eligible for an Apprenticeship, however, you may be looking for a job. We can help you to successfully locate the kind of employment you are looking for and then provide the training necessary for the Apprenticeship.

How do I get started on an Apprenticeship?You’ll need to think carefully about the field of work in which you want to train. It’s a good idea to discuss this with your parents or careers adviser at school. Once you have an idea of what your interests are you can contact us for more information and a chat about opportunities available.

How much will I get paid?You will be guaranteed a minimum wage of £2.50 p/h with some employers paying more based on experience.

What qualifications do I get when I’ve finished my Apprenticeship?You’ll get a package of qualifications when you finish your Apprenticeship – normally an Apprenticeship involves a Diploma/ Certificate and sometimes an NVQ. These qualifications demonstrate your knowledge and practical competency. You will also leave with Functional Skills or Key Skills at an appropriate level and some apprentices will gain a Personal Learning & Thinking Skills (PLTS) qualification. Any apprentice can choose additional courses or qualifications that complement their learning (subject to discussion with the college).

Can I progress on to Further or Higher Education?Most Apprenticeships offer a potential progression from Level 2 to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. Advanced apprentices can progress onto a Level 4 industry qualification or higher education qualification such as a such as a HNC/D or a foundation degree.

Whether it’s sole traders, small businesses, global, companies or Government, accountants are at the heart of all business operations, recording all income and expenditure and helping clients keep control of the budget. This could be your first step towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. At college you will learn basic book-keeping skills, application of numbers and the use of accountancy software. Agriculture is a core industry and because Craven College serves a large rural area we understand the needs of the workforce from the traditional smaller farm, or specialist farm with rare breeds to the large commercial farm with a variety of animals and crops. Full-time vocational courses are based on a particular employment or industry sector for example the arts, catering, construction, hair and beauty, land based industries, sports or tourism.

In addition to taught classes, lectures and seminars, you will also have practical hands on experience of your chosen vocational area, using our industry standard equipment, training facilities and workshops plus access to our virtual learning environment and self-directed study periods. Your course may also include visits and trips both in the UK and overseas, and a period of work experience. Your course will give you valuable insight into the skills and knowledge required for the workplace. You can use these qualifications to go into employment or on to further education or training or degree level study.

In some cases, for courses requiring particular craft or technical skills, the work experience and personal qualities you have are the most important entry requirement on to your chosen course.

We will help you to find the level you are currently at and what you can aim for. We are here to help you at every stage of your progression to ensure you achieve your learning goal.

Foundation Level courses are for those wishing to study a vocational subject or explore a new area but also want to improve written, numerical and interpersonal skills.

To progress to a Level 2 Diploma course in most cases you will need to have achieved a Foundation Level Qualification, have GCSEs at grade D-E or have work experience and personal qualities to fit the course requirements.

To progress to a Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma course in most cases you will need to have achieved a full Level 2 qualification, for example four GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and Maths or a Level 2 Diploma Merit or Distinction.

Level 3 Extended Diplomas are equivalent to three full A Level qualifications

What are Vocational Diplomas? A Diploma is a qualification which combines practical skills development with theoretical and technical understanding and knowledge. Diplomas are work related qualifications suitable for a wide range of students.

Who would suit Vocational study?Those who are good with coursework and modular study and like a practical approach to learning rather than exam based assessment.

How are Vocational courses assessed?Through project work, assignments, case studies and presentations. What is a Diploma worth compared to A Levels?An extended diploma can be worth the equivalent of three or three and a half A Levels and carries 300 – 420 UCAS points.

Does doing a Diploma mean committing to a career too early?You will get an insight into the world of work to help you make decisions about your chosen career. You will learn about a broad range of careers in your chosen subject, but many of the skills and qualities you will develop by doing diploma study are general and valued by all employers and universities, so they are not restricting your options.

What do employers think of Diplomas?Diplomas develop skills that are highly valued by employers and employers have helped to develop the diploma qualifications.

Can I get to university with a Diploma?Diplomas carry UCAS points and can be excellent preparation for university courses.

Does doing a Diploma restrict you from entering some careers?Diploma study focuses on the employment area you choose. Most careers can be accessed by the Diploma route but some only through the A Level and degree route. Your careers advisor will give you information about the entry requirements for your chosen career or degree course.

Our courses introduce and develop the skills needed by tour operators for UK and overseas delivery of activities in the holiday environment, for example trekking, mountain biking or white water rafting. The brickwork courses been specifically developed to be delivered in a training environment using simulated conditions with all tools, equipment and materials provided. Our tutors have many years of experience in their industry. All tools, equipment and materials are provided to enable you to achieve your qualification. You can study either Site Joinery which is joinery done on a construction site or Bench Joinery which is joinery done in a manufacturing unit. You will explore the roles and responsibilities of the people who work in the industry and the possible career progression routes. External projects are in place for you to take your new found skills into the community to work on a variety of worthwhile projects plus opportunities to work on some heritage sites to further develop your skills. Equine The Centre for Rural & Equine Studies at Craven College prides itself on excellent equine facilities including two indoor schools and an outdoor arena that enables you to gain a greater knowledge of riding different horses and working in different environments. Many of our staff compete and train at the top level and produce horses for top level showing, eventing and dressage. Students have gone onto produce and show at the Horse of the Year Show as well as many other national shows. Depending on your level of study you may have the opportunity to take additional qualifications such as British Horse Society (BHS) Stages 1, 2 & 3, Riding Horse Safely on the Public Highway and Preliminary Teaching Test. You will be expected to undertake work experience and once a month complete a half weekend day yard duty at the college’s Equine Unit.
