A DORATION is about focusing on the attributes of God. It consists of praise mingled with love. What are some of the attributes of God? He is holy, just, and righteous. He is gracious, compassionate and loving. He is all-knowing, omni-present (everywhere) and omnipotent (all powerful). He forgives, helps, strengthens, and leads us...He is for us! We express our awe of God through adoration. The early church devoted itself to prayer (Acts 2:42). In fact, Jesus called the temple a “house of prayer.” Whether it is personal prayer, prayer in small groups, or church-wide prayer, we want to become a church that prays. James wrote, “You have not because you ask not.” (James 4:3) As a church, we are encouraging everyone to “adopt” half-hour segments to pray throughout a 24-hour period. Many people will be praying during each time slot. You can pray for personal, family, state, country, and/or national needs. Everything is fair game! Following are some examples of prayer requests related to the church, and even an aide in your approach to opening your prayer time. Our prayer is that this will become a spiritually meaningful time for you, for our church, and for the community we serve. CRC PRAYS 24 PRAYER EVENT C ONFESSION is about acknowledging our shortcomings and failures. It is about the willful sins and the “accidental” ones we commit—sins of commission and sins of omission. Confession can deal with personal sins or the sins of a group or nation. Confession puts us in a humble place to receive God’s grace. He forgives us! T HANKSGIVING is about acknowledging that every good and perfect gift comes from God (James 1:17). Thanksgiving is about thanking God for the specific things he has given us or the things he has done for us. (Both answered and unanswered prayer could fit under this category.) S UPPLICATION is another word for “prayer requests.” Supplication can be about anything. We can pray for our own needs or the needs of others. We should pray for church and national leadership (1 Timothy 2:1-2). We should pray that God would provide more workers for his kingdom (Matthew 9:37-38). We are even to pray for our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44).
