TIPS

ROAD SAFETY

Learn how to use the various systemfunctions before setting off.

Care the instructions for the Instant Navcarefully before setting off.

RECEPTION CONDITIONS

Reception conditions change constantlywhile driving. Reception may be interferedwith by the presence of mountains, build-ings or bridges, or when you are far fromthe broadcaster.

IMPORTANT The volume may be in-creased when receiving traffic bulletins.

TTIIPPSS,, CCOONNTTRROOLLSSAANNDD GGEENNEERRAALL IINNFFOORRMMAATTIIOONN

If the volume is too loud thiscan be dangerous. Adjust the

volume so that you can still hearbackground noises (e.g. horns, ambu-lances, police vehicles, etc.).

WARNING

Avoid pointed or rigid ob-jects coming into contact

with the display and do not touch it.Whilst cleaning, do not exert pressureon the display.

WARNING

Do not use alcohol or similarproducts to clean the Instant

Nav display or surround.

WARNING

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

Observe the following precautions to en-sure the system is fully operational:

– the monitor is sensitive to scratching,liquid detergents and UV rays;

– liquids that get inside could damage thesystem irreparably.

Only clean the front and the display witha soft, clean, dry, anti-static cloth. Clean-ing and polishing products could damagethe surface.

IMPORTANT NOTES

If there is a problem, the system shouldonly be checked and repaired at a FiatDealership.

If the temperature is particularly low, thedisplay may take a while to reach optimumbrightness.

If the car is stopped for a while and theoutside temperature is low, the InstantNav may go into “thermal autoprotection”mode stopping to work until the temper-ature in the passenger compartmentreaches acceptable levels.

CD

Dirt, scratches or any distortions onCDs could cause problems when playingand poor sound quality. Follow this advicefor optimum conditions:

– only use branded CDs:

– clean every CD thoroughly removingany fingermarks or dust using a soft cloth.Hold CDs by the outside and clean themfrom the middle outwards;

– never use chemical products for clean-ing (e.g. sprays or anti-static products orthinners) because they can damage thesurface of the CD;

– after listening to them place CDs backin their casings to avoid damage to them;

– do not expose CDs to direct sunlight,high temperatures or dampness for longperiods;

– do not stick labels on the surface of theCD and do not write on the recorded sur-face using pens or pencils.

– do not use CDs that are veryscratched, flawed, distorted, etc. Usingdiscs like this will result in malfunctions ordamage to the player.

The use of original CD supports is re-quired for the best quality audio produc-tion . Correct operation is not guaranteedwhen CD-R/RW media are used thatwere not correctly burned and/or with amaximum capacity above 650 MB.

IMPORTANT Do not use the protec-tive sleeves sold for CDs or discs with sta-bilizers, etc. because they could get stuckin the internal mechanism and damage thedisc.

IMPORTANT If copy protected CDsare used, it may take a few seconds beo-re the system starts playing them. The CDplayer cannot be guaranteed to play allprotected discs. The presence of copyprotection is often in small letters or maybe difficult to read on the cover of the ac-tual CD and it may say something like, forexample, “COPY CONTROL”, “COPYPROTECTED”, “THIS CD CANNOT BEPLAYED ON A PC/MAC”, or identifiedthrough the use of symbols, such as, forexample:

IMPORANT The CD player is able toread most of the compression systemscurrently on the market (e.g.: LAME,BLADE, XING, FRAUNHOFER) but, fol-lowing the development of those systems,the playback of all compression formats isnot guaranteed.

IMPORTANT If a multisession disc isloaded, only the first session will be played.

NAV

The Navigator makes it possible to reacha desired destination through visual andacoustic directions. The Navigation sys-tem is quick to use, easy and, above all,very flexible because you can recall pre-ferred destinations and reference pointssuch as hotels, monuments, public build-ings (e.g. hospitals, airports, etc.) and fill-ing stations.

IMPORTANT NOTES

The Navigation system provides assis-tance whilst driving and is designed to giveadvice, via voice and graphic information,on the best route for reaching a desireddestination. The instructions given by theInstant Nav do not mean that the drivershould abdicate responsibility for the ma-noeuvres they make whilst driving the carin traffic and they must still follow the high-way code and other traffic laws. The dri-ver is always responsible for road safety.

GPS reception may be poor under trees,between tall buildings, in multi-storey carparks, tunnels and anywhere where thesatellite area may have difficulty picking upa signal.

If the battery is replaced or disconnect-ed or if the car is moved with the engineand the Instant Nav off (e.g. whilst travel-ling on a ferry), the GPS system needs afew minutes to determine the new posi-tion of the car.

The GPS satellite aerial should not becovered by metal or damp objects.

In conditions where wheel grip is con-tinuously bad (e.g. when sliding on ice), theNavigation system may temporarily showan inaccurate position for the car.

When the system is turned on, when thefirst navigation function selection is made,the display will show a message with warn-ings for using the system. This message willnot be displayed until the next time it isstarted up.

NAV

The Instant Nav is capable of detectingand solving both operating faults within thesystem and overheating problems.

OPERATING FAULTS

If an internal fault is detected, the system“freezes” the last screen available andlaunches a diagnostic search.

The system checks the module con-cerned for a few moments to detect thetype of fault; if the preset time is exceed-ed and the fault persists, the best solu-tion is adopted (for example, resetting thehardware for the module involved).

If the Instant Nav no longer responds tothe commands, it is possible to restart itmanually by pressing the N button formore than 8 seconds.

PROBLEMS DUE TOOVERHEATING

If the temperature of a Instant Nav hard-ware module (audio, CD player, etc.) ex-ceeds the maximum set limit, the modulesignals that the temperature is too high;the display will show a dedicated message.

The module involved is automaticallylimited or disabled. In extreme cases thesystem is automatically turned off untilnormal operating temperature is resumed;the display shows a dedicated message.
