Survey reveals cruising preferencesCustomers of a leading travelagency have revealed their

    preferred cruise lines and

    destinations and what type of

holiday they really want. CRUISE Holidays Australia (formerly

CruiseMart) uncovered a couple of surprises

when it sent questionnaires to its database of

    customers.

According to many of the respondents, theywould choose a different cruise line next time,

and most dont bother with balcony cabins.

More than 1,000 people replied, and of those

who had cruised before, 24% chose P&O, 21%

Princess, 11% Royal Caribbean, 6% Holland

America Line and NCL, and 4% Carnival.

(Other cruise lines accounted for less than

    4% of respondents.)

When asked which cruise lines they would

like to travel with in the future, only 9% said P&O.

The most popular response was Princess

    (16%), Royal Caribbean (12%), Carnival (10%),

    HAL (8%), Celebrity Cruises (7%) and P&OWorld Cruises (6%).

This would support the theory that P&O is

the leading choice for first-time cruisers and

these passengers then look to progress to

other lines and/or destinations, suggested Les

    Farrar, MD, Cruise Holidays Australia.

Only 4% had cruised on Carnival previously

but 10% indicated they would like to do so in

the future, reflecting the fact Carnival Spirit

arrives in our waters in October.

Respondents said they usually selected an

oceanview cabin (44%), with 28% opting for a

balcony, 28% for an inside cabin and 2%

    treating themselves to a suite.

Mid-range oceanview cabins are easily the

preferred choice of cabin type, perhaps

disagreeing somewhat with the cruise lines

who will generally tell us that balconies are the

    most popular, Farrar said.

Past destinations were led by the South

    Pacific, New Zealand, Europe/Mediterranean,

    Southeast Asia, Alaska and Hawaii.

For future cruises, Europe came out on top,

followed by Hawaii, Alaska and the South Pacific.

Customers also said they were interested in

    last-minute deals (28%), cruise-tours (26%),

river cruising (20%), escorted groups (12%) and

    cruises for singles (4%).

The program has been warmly received by

Royal Caribbean attackA ROYAL Caribbean passenger has launched

legal action over an alleged assault on her by a

crew member onboard Navigator of the Seas.

It is alleged that the assault, which was

partially captured on the ships CCTV cameras,

took place during a New Years Eve cruise in

    the Eastern Caribbean.

According to the lawsuit, the woman was led

into a bathroom and assaulted by the crew

member after she asked him for a towel.

The woman managed to get away and report

the incident to the ships security who

detained the crew member and reported the

    assault to the relevant authorities.

Meanwhile a spokesperson for RCCL said

Once we became aware of the incident, Royal

    Caribbeans onboard security immediately

    responded and preserved information and

    enforcement.

    Royal Caribbean maintains strict policies

    governing employee interaction with guests.

Due to the violation of this policy, the crew

member in question is no longer employed by

    Royal Caribbean, the spokesperson added.

announcement of its full 2013 program.

The company also experienced its best ever

sales week in the second week of August,

nearly doubling its previous weekly booking

    volume benchmark.

    There has been tremendous word-of-mouth

support from agents and guests alike as they

clamor for remaining space in 2012 and for the

newly announced 2013 season, said AmericanQueen Steamboat Company CEO Jeffrey Krida.

We are building a new audience of loyal

steamboaters, most of whom are seasoned

travelers that have traveled with luxury ocean-

going and European river brands, and now

cant get enough of theAmerican Queen

    experience.

Many who have booked for this fall and

winter had already traveled aboard the

American Queen since her launch this past

April and are back again, he added.

Meanwhile, it seems that the company is

ensuring its new and returning steamboatersstay loyal, with the cruise line currently

sporting average guest satisfaction ratings of

    96%.

saac causes itinerary changesTROPICAL Storm Isaac has forced itinerary

changes for several ships sailing in the Caribbean.

Isaac has given authorities more than a slight

headache, churning its way through theCaribbean causing waves as high as 10-feet, and

hitting the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Puerto

Rico, before heading towards Florida on

    Monday.

Some experts are predicting the storm will turn

nto a hurricane as it makes its way towards

he Northern Gulf today and Wednesday.

Vessels affected in Carnival Cruise Lines fleet

nclude Carnival Valour, with her scheduled six-

    day Caribbean voyage (which departed

yesterday) shortened to five days, visiting

Grand Cayman and Montegro Bay and skipping

Key West.Carnival Imaginations three day voyage

which (departed last Friday) was extended as

he vessel waited out at sea for the Port of

Miami to reopen yesterday, whilst guests on

Carnival Legends 19 August Caribbean cruise

had to be bussed from Port Canaveral to the

Port of Tampa due to a closure of the latter,

whilst those scheduled to depart from the

Port of Tampa on Sunday onboard Legend, were

bussed in reverse, from Tampa to Canaveral.

Carnival Ecstasywas also forced to swap out

a recent Half Moon Cay call for Freeport.

Meanwhile Royal CaribbeansAllure of theSeas had to extend one voyage by two days at

sea, and in turn cut her following itinerary by

wo days; whilst both Majesty of the Seas and

Monarch of the Seas had to cut calls to

    CocoCay in the Bahamas.

Now you can cruise to Aswan AFTER fifteen years of restriction, cruise lines

will now be able to plan itineraries which take

guests along the Nile from Cairo to Aswan.

Over the past 15 years Egyptian authorities

have banned cruise lines from sailing the

748km stretch of the Nile between Cairo and

Luxor due to security and safety concerns,

coupled with low water levels. The lifting of this restriction means that

cruises will be able to take guests all the way

from Cairo to Aswan in the South of Egypt,

instead of having to break the journey up with

    added land touring segments.

Bad joke costs P&O UK P&O UK has reportedly settled out of court

with a passenger who was offended by a seriesof jokes told by comedians onboard Oriana

    andArtemis.

Hailing from Ireland, the man and his wife

were deeply offended by jokes about Irish

people told onboard Oriana in 2007, and when

they complained they were given vouchers and

told the cruise line would not let such jokes be

told onboard its vessels ever again.

According to reports, the man sailed again

with the cruise line in 2008 and again was

offended by a set of similar offensive jokes

about Irish people, after which he decided to

launch legal action. The case was however settled amicably out

    of court this month.
