Parents’ Preview The Parents’ Preview highlights an aspect of next week’s service: a liturgical song, a Psalm refrain, or a hymn stanza. Our hope and prayer is that parents will teach this portion of the service to their children at home during the week so that children can participate more fully in the worship service.

Piano Lessons With the Christmas season just around the corner, be sure to take time to “stop and enjoy the music”. It’s such a beautiful time of year. All of my students should bring their piano books on Monday, as there are no piano

lessons on Tuesday. ~Mrs. Horton

I'm pleased with how so many students are progressing. Their practice time is evident and it makes it such a joy to teach them. Thank you for your encouragement! Many students came home this week with new Christmas songs to practice. Others will get theirs next week. Looking ahead, my students will not have lessons during the week of Thanksgiving.

~Mrs. Bortulin

Childcare News After a wonderfully warm Fall, we are finally starting to feel the chill in the air. As long as there is no snow on the ground we will go outside every day. Please make sure to dress your child appropriately for this. Also, please make sure all your child’s outer wear is labeled (mittens, jackets, hats etc). These things have a tendency to get lost and it seems everyone has identical items. Childcare will be CLOSED November 24th and 25th for the Thanksgiving holiday. Childcare will be open on November 23rd for those who have submitted a reservation.

Gift Cards Available -- through St. John’s Scrip Program With school in full swing, we are getting back into the swing of things around here too! We wanted to highlight one of our fundraising opportunities that is available year round. Scrip. Scrip are the gift cards sold here through school. School purchases the gift cards at a discounted rate and you in turn can buy these cards from us and use for your shopping, dining or gift giving, just as you would buy a gift card from any other store. For example: Starbucks (one of our most popular sellers!) offers a 7% rebate, you want a $20 gift card, school pays $18.60 for that $20 card, you pay $20 and that remaining $1.40 goes into our fundraiser account. It may not seem like much, but the more you buy, the more we collect! Scrip cards will be for sale after school Friday and Monday in the office. Stop by to see what we have on hand (most of which are listed on the next page). We are also able to print on demand (Scrip Now) gift cards...going to dinner this weekend we can print many restaurant cards including Applebee's (8%), Buffalo Wild Wings (8%), Chili's (11%), Maggiano's (11%), Olive Garden (9%), Outback Steakhouse (8%) ,Panera (9%), The Cheesecake Factory (5%) and many many more!!! The same is true for many stores including Gap/Old Navy (14%), Kohl's (4%), Target (2.5%), Walmart (2.5%), TJMAXX/Marshall's/Home Goods Store (7%), The Home Depot (4%), Lowe's (4%), even CVS (6%) and many more! “Kohls Cares for Kids” Gift Cards -- For those of you who shop at Kohls, please keep in mind that you can pay your Kohls Credit card bill with the Kohls Cares for Kids gift cards purchased here at school. This way you are supporting St. John’s each time you pay your bill or shop at Kohls. To learn more about Scrip visit their website at shopwithscrip.com. When signing up use code: C5FB311729461 to ensure you sign in through St. John's - Tosa. Scrip is a completely volunteer run program here at school, we are looking for some extra hands to help sell after school Monday and Friday and perhaps even at school events such as volleyball and basketball games and our other events throughout the year. If you are interested please email [email protected] or see Scott Uecker in the school office. Thank you for your support!

Stephanie Heffelfinger

K3 News Woodland animals have continued to be our focus in K3. The children enjoyed playing with the forest habitat we made for our beautiful collection of woodland animals. Our woodland animal puppets and stuffed animals were added this week and were also popular. The children built homes for them with our blocks and used their imagination to come up with some silly stories! We enjoyed some great books, Boris Beaver, Sassafras, and Sammy Squirrel were a few. We made owls by tearing paper to look like feathers and hedgehogs with our handprint. Thanksgiving is another topic we have explored. We learned new action songs called "The Turkey Hop" and "Please Pass the Peas". The children love taking turns being the farmer who tries to catch a Thanksgiving turkey. Giggles abound as they try not to tip 'the peas' off the plate as it is passed. Our Bible lesson was "God Leads His People through the Red Sea". It was about how God led Moses and the Israelites out of Egypt and across the Red Sea in an amazing way. God watched over Moses and the Israelites and protected them when Pharaoh meant to harm them. God watches over us too and has the power to help us in any kind of trouble. It pleases our Lord when we call upon Him in troubling times of our life. When we do this, it shows we trust God and believe that he can help us. We can feel safe in God's almighty arms and thank and praise him for always taking care of us.
