January 14, 2018 - 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
“Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, ‘What are you looking
for?’” - John 1:38
What are you looking for? Are you wasting your time looking for the material com-
forts of the world? Or, is your heart longing for something deeper that can only be
found by spending time with God? Take time, each day, in silence and ask the Lord
what it is that He wants you to do.
This weekend: Father John Phelps will be visiting our parish to speak at all Masses
on behalf of Cross Catholic Outreach which was founded to create a meaningful link
between parishes in America and the priests and nuns working in the Church overseas
including the Caribbean, Africa, Asia, Central America and South America.
EUCHARISTIC ADORATION / Prayers for Increased
Vocations Sacred Heart will participate by offering an hour of prayer and
Eucharistic Adoration before the 5:15 pm mass on the 3rd
Satur-
day of every month, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Please come
pray with us. (Incense will be used).

January 14-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time:
In the Gospel today, Jesus asks “What are
you looking for?” Often we are looking for
happiness in very selfish ways, but we find
that when we look for ways to make others
happy, it is then that we truly become happy.
As you place your gift in the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul poor box, know that you are a sign of God’s
love to those who are suffering and you give them
reason to believe and to trust.

Our upcoming antiphon:
What is an antiphon? An antiphon consists of one or more
psalm verses or sentences from Holy
Scripture which are sung or simply
recited during the mass. The verse
which serves as the antiphon text gives the key to the li-
turgical and mystical meaning of the psalm with regard to
the feast on which it occurs.
With the upcoming Lenten Season fast approaching we
will be having a new antiphon-style Processional. More
to come….

JUSTICE & PEACE
As Catholics observed National Migration Week here in
the US, one group of many, El Salvadorans numbering
200,000 and mostly Catholic, are faced with psychological
distress, wrenching decisions of how to proceed with their
lives. They have been here an average of 20 years and are
losing their Temporary Protected Status (TPS). After flee-
ing their home countries, these refugees from extreme vio-
lence have made their lives here. In an announcement on
January 8th, their TPS has been cancelled and they have to
decide among becoming undocumented, which family
members born here as US citizens will stay, where will
they return to – El Salvador is ravaged by gangs and pov-
erty, designated as the most dangerous country in the
world not at war. We Americans through our trade and
security policies and because of our insatiable appetite for
drugs are morally implicated in the crisis in El Salvador
and Central America. The U.S. Conference of Catholic
Bishops called this Homeland Security decision “heart-
breaking”. It will create many losers and no winners,
turning hard working immigrants into persons without
status. They have 18 months to leave or be deported. On-
ly Congress can create a path to citizenship. (from Catho-
lic News Service, 1/8/18)
