Details of being an eminent scholar:

The major scientific contributions of Dr. S.I. Ahmed fall in the field of Forest Entomology with particular reference to biological control of insect pests. He has authored independently and with colleagues, more than 216

research publications Out of them, 15 chapters in books, 47 research papers in the journals of International & National reputes, 33 popular articles, 73 research papers in the seminars/symposia/conferences etc., 6 monographs/catalogues/brochures etc., 17 research papers sent/accepted for publications and 38 reports on various aspects were published/prepared since last 20 years (1992- 2012). The most significant subject matters pertaining to research achievements since last 25 years are summarised as follows:

Supervised six research scholars who have successfully been awarded Doctorate Degrees on Ph.D. problems having National/International concern .

Three Technologies have been developed for (1) the management of Khejri mortality in Rajasthan, (2) Insect resistant tree provenances of neem & rohida, for their optimum use in future tree breeding programmes and (3) Isolation & production of a microbial pesticide, Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) suspension for bio-control of Babul defoliator in arid and semi-arid areas.

During the above period, the undersigned has been awarded by the Indian Council of Forestry Research &

Education (ICFRE) and other organisations for my outstanding research contributions in the field of bio- management of forest insect pests. The Indian Society of Health, Environment, Education and Research, Rajasthan awarded me with an ISHEER Award-1998 for my work in the field of Environment -Development of Microbial Pesticides and Bio-control agents. The Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education, Dehra Dun also considered my candidature for the ICFRE- AWARD- 2001. The Applied Zoologists Research Association, Cuttack considered my research contribution for the award of Dr. Anand Prakash Award -2002 .

In addition, the undersigned has been elected as a Fellow of Royal Entomological Society, London (FRES)

and associated as member of different scientific societies in India and abroad, like (MIAW Sc.; MBES and MAZRA).

Details of significant contribution to knowledge: (Annexures VII B) Leaf rust, Revanalia evansii has been authentically identified and prioritized for the first time as a bio-control agent against the Acacia nilotica var. indica with the help of Alan Fletcher Research Station, Queensland Australia. The Acacia nilotica indica is a weed of National importance in Australia. The work was carried out in an internationally funded research project entitled "New biocontrol opportunity for prickly acacia- exploration in India".

Technology developed for management of important commercial crops of Rajasthan, Mehndi & Isobgol from major damages caused by insect pests (Achaea janata & Aphis gossypii by adoption of IPM strategy using bioagents (Trichoderma harzianum.& Beauvaria bassiana-1) + Chemical pesticides (Phorate granules -10G) as Soil treatments and foliar spray. The yield production an in the treated plots in both the above cases was increased significantly in comparison of yield production in control plots.

A bio-control strategy has been developed for management of Babul defoliator, Streblote siva through Nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) : A strain of nuclear Polyhedrosis Virus (NPV) was isolated and

identified. The potential and virulence of the bio-agent was tested through field trials in Rajasthan. NPV, introduced into virus-free populations of the Babul defoliator, was carried over into host- generation and spread into the surrounding areas from the points of introduction at Jodhpur, Rajasthan (India). The pest population and out-breaks have successfully been checked.

15 new pest records on Prosopis cineraria and 24 new pest records on Tecomella undulata have been

established and findings have been published.

Written 3 monographs on the contributions of Gass Forest Museum, Coimbatore: "Monograph on Birds" (377 pp + 96 colour original plates) "Monograph on "Butterflies and Moths" and "Monograph on Hymenoptera and Coleoptera" from 1986 to 1989.

Developmental and Management Works carried out at previous place of posting:

The undersigned has been engaged in planning, development and management works of the Estate while working as Coordinator (Facilities)/Estate officer of Arid Forest Research Institute, Jodhpur. During this tenure I have prepared many proposals and estimates for the development and management of infrastructural facilities in office buildings and residential campus of the Institute & got executed the works under my supervision. The major achievements are listed as below:

Generated a revenue for the council (ICFRE) from the Defense R & D Establishment, Investigating Laboratory, Jhansi Road, Gwalior for "Testing of bio-efficacy of wool care spray against furniture carpet beetle , Anthrenus flavipes and clothes moth, Tinea translucens".

Landscaping and Beautification of AFRI Estate and elsewhere in Jodhpur: Before taking up this charge as

Chairman, Estate beautification committee in the year 2004, whole AFRI Campus was wearing a deserted look. During 2009-13, lot of efforts were made to improve the roads, develop lawns and to create greenery and the whole campus was beautified and face- lifted with development of gardens, lawns, hedges, ornamental plants, installation of sprinkler irrigation systems, fountains etc. Especially the residential colony was made habitable with greening of the surroundings. Now the whole campus has been transformed into a green rapture. A detailed report to this effect has been prepared & submitted .

Management and General upkeep of Institute’s infrastructures: Supervising, monitoring and advancing general

maintenance and upkeep of various infrastructures such as Guest houses, Hostels, Auditorium Halls, Community Hall, Lecture Halls, Laboratories, Office & Residential buildings of the Institute and arrangement of` operational facilities.

Management & Monitoring of Store materials/articles: Performing duties to monitor & supervise purchase &

procurement of materials/equipments for various developmental works. Formulation of terms and conditions of tenders/quotations as a Chairman, Senior Purchase Committee.

Accounts keeping experience: Performed duties and responsibilities for obtaining approval of financial and

administrative sanctions of the Competent Authority for estimates for the execution of various civil and electrical works related to the general maintenance upkeep of Institute's Infrastructures. Monitored works related to maintenance of cash books and bill registers, verifying the bills for payments and submission of accounts as DDO/Coordinator (Facility) & Estate Officer.

Providing environment related information/facilities/trainings to Army personnel & Air Force Station, Jodhpur: Attended various meetings with Army & Air Force Personnel /Airfield Environment Committee.

Participated in discussions held on various issues related to AFRI and Airport Authority of India, Jodhpur.

Generated revenue for the council, ICFRE: The undersigned is amongst a few scientists of ICFRE who brought

international funding through formulation of a research project entitled "New biocontrol opportunity for prickly acacia- exploration in India". Subsequently, the project was implemented and completed successfully in Rajasthan and Gujarat. Established two high facilitated culture laboratories in Forest Protection division, AFRI by utilizing the funds received from Alan Fletcher Research Station, Queensland Australia.
