Responsibilities: Supervise and provide leadership for the cataloging section of the Grinnell College Libraries including 5 support staff who catalog books, serials, audiovisual materials and music scores. Catalog audiovisual materials and music scores lacking Library of Congress cataloging; revise all original cataloging done by cataloging staff. Provide reference service to the public. Participate in the planning and implementation of various projects that the library undertakes. Major accomplishments: Lead process to revise documentation for all operational areas and make it available through a wiki 2013- Lead process to revise technical services workflow and oversaw implementation. (2008) Digital Initiatives including working with Special Collections to set up Digital Collections and the LASR initiative (2006->) Participating in the CORC (Cooperative Online Resource Catalog) project. Re-authorizing, re-indexing, and enhancing the online catalog with formatted tables of contents and summary notes. Have participated in World Wide Web development and training. Supervise 6-7 high level paraprofessionals doing member-contributed copy cataloging using OCLC. Develop and revise policies and procedures related to cataloging for the UAz Library. Ensure that our use of OCLC records will be compatible and appropriate for an on-line system. Chair the Cataloging Policy Board. Problem solve in all areas related to cataloging. Liaison with public services departments to ensure that our efforts are user oriented. Major Accomplishments: Hired and trained four copy catalogers. Trained and mentored 4 Graduate Library School Students. Heavily involved in the preparation for and implementation of Innopac for the Science and Center for Creative Photography Libraries in 1988 and of SABIO as the integrated system for the whole Library in 1992-93. Prepared indexing decisions, call number mapping and developed the information for many of the internal tables. 1991-92; involved in evaluating the available integrated library systems, and worked on writing the cataloging and authorities portions of the RFP. One of the PRISM test groups that tested the OCLC PRISM system (an internationally used bibliographic utility), evaluated the workbooks and made suggestions about changes and enhancements to the system. May of 1986-February of 1987, serve as Acting Section Head for the 090 Copy Cataloging Section. Responsibilities in this position include supervising and evaluating the seven LA IIs in the section. Trained the personnel who began the FAST CAT cataloging procedure which allowed us to quickly process AACR2 Library of Congress OCLC records without series entries, without the usual verification procedures. Supervise a Graduate Library School Practicum [Lib Sci 699] doing videotape cataloging during the first summer session of 1986. The entire backlog of videotapes was cataloged during this project. Supervise a "Staff Sharing" project doing cataloging of audiotape cassettes concentrating on the large collection of poetry readings that were in the A-V backlog. Second summer session of 1986. Innovacq Interface Ad-hoc committee, 1986. Work out changes in workflow and procedures due to the implementation of Innovacq with an interdepartmental committee including representatives from the Acquisitions, Bindery, Serials, Loan, and Catalog Departments.
