The March Madness I continued at Highfields Event Center under bright blue, cloudy skies on Friday with another
full day of competition. The featured event of the day was the $5,000 Welcome Stake and exhibitor’s party at the
Dietrich Derby Field. Congratulations to Daniel Geitner and Barbara Phillips’ Coco Chanel for an exciting finish,
winning by a fraction of a second over Kasarr and owner Erin McGuire!
MAIN HUNTER RING
The professional divisions wrapped up today, starting with the High Performance/Green Hunters. Daniel Geitner
rode Thomas Visconsi’s Signal Hill for blues in both rounds giving them enough for the Champion award over Julie
Curtin and Auto Correct, a mount she co-owns with Harbor Hill, in Reserve. Kathryn Jarriel’s Ava and Daniel Geitner
won both rounds of Performance Hunter 3’3”/3’6”. The Champion award went to Rainbow Row, owned by Golinski
Equine LLC with Julie Curtin and Julie took the Reserve
Champion with Charlotte Warren’s Why.
Jared Depermentier rode Amanda Hones’ Solstice to the top in
both 3’ Pre-Green Hunter rounds giving them the Champion
award over Hitchcock and Julie Curtin in Reserve. In the 3’3”
Pre-Green Hunters blues went to Leslie Wheat’s Sigh with Bruce
Christison and Select with owner Daniel Geitner and the two
ended up Champion and Reserve, respectively. Daniel Geitner
took the first and second place in the $1,000 Pre-Green
Incentive Stake, winning with his own mount Select over
Andrea Guzinski’s Greenleese. The 3’ Performance Hunter over
fences classes were both won by Emilie Burton’s Playstation with Daniel Geitner. Stephanie Von Bidder rode
Marguerite Munger’s Philliane for blue in the under saddle class. The Champion award went to Playstation and the
Reserve Champion award went to Jordan Sigmon’s Reliant with Caroline Foto.
DIETRICH DERBY FIELD
Meter jumper classes ran on the Dietrich Derby Field on Friday. The single .85m class was won by Silver Cloud with
owner Mary Ellen Taggart. Bali Ha’i, owned by November Hill, with Cathy Geitner topped the first .95m class and
Sky 78 with owner Noah Buehler won the second class as well as the 1.05m class. Kineo and owner Arden Wildasin
won the first 1.10m class and Doug Payne rode Madeline Reich’s Jimmy Choo to the top in the second 1.10m class.
1.15m jumpers ended the early schedule with Daniel Geitner taking blue aboard Jordan Heithold’s Winniton.
19 entries competed against the Lewis Pack course during the afternoon’s $5,000 Welcome Stake. Pizza and
Beverages were provided as refreshment for exhibitors during the class in the viewing tents. Full results are below:

HUNTER RING 2
Hunter Breeding classes led the schedule with Gaze at Me, owned by Michelle Guardino-Dettelbach, handled by
Brandon Gibson winning the yearling class and Brandon handled the winning two year old Chase Meadow Farms’ Apua
Point. Gaze at Me took the Best Young Horse and Apua Point was Reserve.
The Young Hunters jumped first in the second Hunter Ring and Brandon Gibson with Select Sport Horses’ Stellar took
a clean sweep and the Champion award over Walk the Line LLC’s Requested in Reserve. Bruce Christison rode Blue
Ridge Farms Thinking Cap to the top in both Baby Green Hunter over fences classes with Stellar and Brandon Gibson
taking top in the under saddle. Thinking Cap was the Champion and the Reserve call went to Walk the Line’s
Shameless with Jared Depermentier. The Aiken County Hunters first round
was won by Grace Angelino and her mount Corbeau, the second round blue
went to Januar, owned by Virginia Barnette, with Bruce Christison and the
under saddle blue went to Nicole Smith’s Raytango and Rebecca Young.
Corbeau was the Champion and the Reserve award went to Tracey Miller’s
Southern Star. Janet Peterson’s entries swept the Thoroughbred Hunters
with Imperial Rest winning all three classes and taking the Champion award
over Restless Honor who was second in the classes and ended with the
Reserve award, both entries had Daniel Geitner up.
Our combined 12-17 Age Group Equitation offered a flat and two over fences
today, with Lindsey Rigney coming out on top in the flat and first round and
Brittani Hayden won the second round. The Cram sisters swept the 11 &
Under Equitation with Celia Cram winning the flat and Reserve Champion
award and Elizabeth Cram topping both over fences rounds and taking
Champion. Schooling Pony Hunters ended the day in Hunter 2 with blues
going to Our Song and Erica Felder, Glynmagic Sun Chaser with owner Derek
Holt and Woodlands Misty Rain with owner Isabelle Aldridge. Woodlands
Misty Rain took the Champion award over Glynmagic Sun Chaser.
