FUTURE FARMER FAITH Schofields Public School
2011 Archibull Prize
Throughout the Archibull Prize process we have learnt that sustainable farming is about meeting the
needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
If natural resources such as soil, nutrients and water are used up at a rate faster than they are
replenished, then the farming system is unsustainable. Sustainability is also dependent on
maintaining a high level of biodiversity.
The objective is to show the importance of a sustainable food chain and inspire the
community to take responsibility for their footprint in relation to farming and food
production in general.
What is the objective of all this?
First things first...
We attended the Prize Launch, gathered our
information and met our Dairy
Farmer representative Stephanie
Our school was really lucky to have Stephanie visit us and give us a presentation about her life as a dairy farmer. She also
gave us detailed facts about how she has reached many various
goals and shared some of her personal life with us too.
We had a naming competition for one of Steph’s new baby
calves…her name became Bega…as
this is the factory where her milk
products may end up one day
Firstly, we had a competition for the design that would be painted onto our Archibull dairy calf. So our teachers had given us a sheet with one side of the cow printed on it, we then had to take it home and
draw a design of the country to city theme. we brought them back to school and the teachers judged them.
For the naming of Milky Way, we were given a small piece of paper and we had to write 3 possible names or less on the paper. This was then
judged by students and then the teachers....Milky Way it was!
Schofields school has a fruit and veggie patch. We have a gardening group and they look after our fruit and vegetables everyday. Milky Way really wanted to help plant our
strawberries.
Painting and Construction
Learning about the Dairy Industry and completing this project
