MOBILE PHONE POLICY Yesterday the State Government announced a new policy with regard to the use of mobile electronic devices by students in all public schools from the commencement of the 2020 school year. Dalmain Primary School already has a Mobile Phone policy in place, however in light of this announcement we will now conduct a review of this policy to ensure that it is compliant with the new guidelines to be introduced. It is worth nong that the new policy will also cover the use of addional electronic devices such as smart watches. This new approach will be discussed by staff and the school board. Parents are welcome to contact me should you have any queries around the use of mobile electronic devices in school. MUSIC ASSEMBLY Last Thursday we had the opportunity to listen to and be entertained by the musical talents of some of our Dalmain students. Students in years five and six who are learning a musical instrument through the Instrumental Music School Services program had their first chance to perform in front of an audience. Congratulaons to all of our guitar, clarinet and trumpet students who played and sounded fabulous. It was also terrific for all of the students to have their instrumental teachers with them. Students who took part in the Massed Choir Fesval last term also got to sing two of their songs under the direcon of Ms Pinakis. Again they sung beaufully and it was a pleasure to hear the choir once more. Mrs Jennifer McMahon (Principal Greenwood College) also aended our assembly and presented two of our year six students with scholarships for next year. William (High Achiever) and Stella (Volleyball) both received their cerficates from Mrs McMahon. Both students are deserving recipients and I am sure they will make the most of their opportunies at Greenwood College. LANGUAGES ASSEMBLY Please join us next Thursday for our assembly which will focus on the Languages component of the WA Curriculum and will have a disnct Japanese flavour. ISSUE #33 31 October 2019

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY Congratulations to our interschool team who competed at the Kingsley Schools Sports Association Cross Country event at Hawker Park PS last week. This was the first time that this event has been staged. Students representing Dalmain PS participated with great enthusiasm and determination. See further inside for additional details regarding this event. OUTDOOR CLASSROOMS DAY (7 November) Dalmain PS will once again be taking part in this day. The following quotes come from the Outdoor Classrooms Day website and provide some of the reasons why this day is celebrated.

When teachers take learning outdoors they report some powerful impacts: Children’s behaviour improves, whole classes are excited to learn, and individuals who feel inhibited by the curriculum often thrive in an outdoor environment.

When adults think back to their own happiest memories of childhood, they frequently recall the joy of playing outdoors. Play is not only central to children’s enjoyment of childhood, but teaches critical life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork and creativity.

At Dalmain, staff and students will often take advantage of the learning opportunities available outdoors throughout the course of the year. Next Thursday will provide an additional chance to do so. SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Members of the school board will meet tonight commencing at 6:30pm in the staffroom.

Kingsley Schools Sports Association Cross Country Event

A big congratulations to our inter-school team who competed at the recent Kingsley Schools Sports Association Cross Country Event at Hawker Park PS. This is the first year that this event was held for our local schools and all of our kids competed really strongly over a challenging and authentic cross country course. Students in Year 1 and 2 competed over 1000m, Year 3 and 4 over 1500m, and Year 5 and 6 over 2000m. Students from Year 3-5 who were successful in this event may have also achieved qualification to represent the Kingsley School Sports Association in the State Cross Country Championships in 2020. Dalmain PS finished 3rd overall in a very close contest between all the schools and special congratulations must go to the following students who won individual medals in their age group races:

Yr 1/2 Girls - Kiara Yr 1/2 Boys - Zeph Yr 3/4 Girls - Elise Yr 3/4 Boys - Xavier Yr 5/6 Boys - Lewis Well done to all members of our team and we certainly look forward to next year's event.
