This has certainly meant that students are able to quickly sele into class and are ready to start their school day. STAFFING Mrs Lynda Dilena, our Manager of Corporate Services for more than 20 years at Dalmain Primary School will be rering at the end of this term. Mrs Dilena is one of our longest serving staff members and has contributed enormously to our school community over this period of me. While Mrs Dilenas role of managing the school finances has been her primary focus, she has also worn many other hats and carried these off with great aplomb. Over the years, Mrs Dilena has oſten been the first point of contact for visitors and new families to our school. This important role of greeng people to our school has always been carried with great enthusiasm. On behalf of our school community I would like to thank Mrs Dilena for all that she has done and to wish her and her family every happiness. Unfortunately, we are also losing the services of two of our school cleaners, Ms Marn (Head Cleaner) and Ms Togher. Both have worked relessly in their roles to help maintain our school to a very high standard. They have done an outstanding job, parcularly during these very trying mes with the pandemic and take great pride in the work that they do. They have both worked addional hours during the school day this term to ensure that our students and staff have an even safer school environment to learn and work in. I would like to extend the gratude of all within our school community to both Ms Marn and Ms Togher for their work at Dalmain Primary school. P&C MEETING Our first meeng for a number of months took place in the library on Wednesday evening. The meeng provided an opportunity to discuss a number of topics. Hats off to our esteemed treasurer, Erin Nicholas, who has ensured through her diligence and perseverance that our school canteen has remained financially viable despite the impact of COVID-19.

Dear Parents and Community Members,

Once again a huge thank you to the parent community of Dalmain for the way in which you have embraced the latest change this week regarding coming back onto the school site. Erin was able to secure funding that will allow our canteen to continue to operate – excellent work! The meeting also tabled various potential projects including the School Toilet Project. This project is particularly relevant given the current situation with the pandemic and the mental health of people. The project is focused on improving the attractiveness of the student toilets through the inclusion of positive messages and pictures placed on the walls. Ideally this is a project that parents can become involved with and the P&C are looking for people to come on board and support this initiative. If you are interested and would like to be a part of this project, please contact the P&C or notify the school office. A further P&C meeting is scheduled to take place in the final week of this term. SCHOOL BOARD MEETING Members of the school board met last night for the first time this term. A report from matters discussed at the meeting will be included in next week’s newsletter. One of the areas discussed was the Annual School Report for 2019. This document which provides an overview of the school’s operations last year is available for parents to view. I would certainly encourage parents to take the time to have a look through this report. Parents can access this online at our school web site or obtain a hard copy from our school office. STUDENT UNIFORM Last week I raised the topic of students wearing school uniform and again would like to emphasise that students are expected to wear the school uniform in-line with our School Dress Code. While it is understandable that students may occasionally need to wear a different jacket, it should not become the norm. Having students choosing to add additional fashion clothing items to their school uniform is not acceptable. This effectively undermines the way in which our students present and encourages others to follow suit. Could I please again ask that parents ensure that their children are complying with this approach. As always I am happy to discuss this area with parents who may have any queries regarding students wearing the school uniform. EDU-DANCE (Term 3) Information was forwarded home to parents of students in Pre-primary to Year 6 this week regarding this program. There has already been a very positive response from parents with a large number of dance fees being paid. This year we are trialling a new dance company, Edu-Dance, with the expectation that our students, by taking part, will thoroughly enjoy learning some new skills . Enjoy the weekend,

Don Boyes Principal

Year 6 students have been learning about chemical changes in science. This week they experimented with using different indicators to test unknown substances. They even used red cabbage water and obtained some amazing results!

Dalmain Primary School Great Book Swap

Monday, 27 July 2020 - Wednesday, 29 July 2020 The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is working towards equity of opportunity, so that children living in remote communities have the same opportunities as those living in urban Australia. The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, and raise much-needed funds to continue their work. This year the goal is to raise $350,000 to gift 35,000 new books to remote communities who want and need them. After all, how can you learn to read without books? Help us help them by making a donation to our Great Book Swap which will be held during Week 2, Term 3.

P&C Meeting - Thank you!

I want to thank everyone who took the time last Wednesday to attend our 1st General Meeting of the new school year. A special thank you to Don and Alessandra for joining our meetings and supporting us in what we do. We could not do it without you.

We covered a lot of different topics and it was fantastic to hear the different suggestions that were put forward to support our children with their school and learning experience.

With every new member joining our P&C Committee our perspective on things can grow and our repertoire of ideas can be extended, therefore I would also like to welcome our new members who joined us for the first time.

The next General Meeting for the term will be held on Wednesday, 1 July - 7:00pm

I am looking forward to seeing everyone again at the next General Meeting and continue to work on the topics where we left off. I also want to take this opportunity to encourage more parents and carers to come along to our next meeting to find out more about what we do and who we are. You are welcome to join us to just observe and inform yourself or to interact and have your say. Sabine Steegmann P&C President
