ASSEMBLY
It was great to see a large audience in attendance this morning with many grandparents, aunties, uncles and parents present. And what an absolutely splendid job we had from our very young hosts. It was certainly a very confident and vibrant performance from our pre-primary students in PP 1. The assembly theme was centred around Australian animals and on the classic children’s story “Wombat Stew”. PP 1 delivered their very own version of the story with some fabulous acting and dialogue. The students also provided further entertainment with their dance “The Wombat Wobble” which members of the audience loved. Congratulations to everyone involved - students, parents, Ms Farr and Ms Molino. Our next assembly will feature our Year 6 students on their return from camp. This assembly will be held 5 November.
NATURE PLAY NEWS
Last Thursday evening a small number of parents and staff met to view and discuss the plans drafted by Nature Play Solutions. Everyone was in agreement that the proposed plan encapsulated the ideas that the school community had put forward. This plan has now been forwarded for approval by the Department of Education’s Planning Division as well as the City of Joondalup. Once approval is granted by these authorities we can then actually begin the process of constructing the play area. The cost to have the play area constructed by a company would be substantial and is well beyond the financial capacity of our P&C and school. For this idea to become a reality it will mean that the majority of the work will need to be completed by our school community. In particular we will need to call upon members who have skills in the landscaping, earth moving and building areas. We will also need a willing labour force! If you are happy to be involved I would urge you to provide your details to the Nature Play Committee so that we can establish what may be realistically achieved. For further information please contact: Amanda Wood via [email protected] or 0409 994 822 and join the closed Facebook group: Dalmain Nature Play. This project will also be discussed further at the P&C Meeting next Tuesday evening.

YEAR 6 CAMP
Students from TA6 are counting down the days until camp – now just 6 more sleeps in fact. I am sure that they will thoroughly enjoy the many and varied experiences that will be on offer at Woodman Point. Pre-service teachers Mrs Vanderbroek and Miss Eastman, Mrs Archibald and Mr Sturmer will accompany our students for the duration of the camp. Mrs Hudson, Mrs Suddell and Mr Boyes will also visit our happy campers at different times during the week. The camp provides a different set of challenges for our students who will be involved in a range of activities focusing on leadership and teamwork throughout the camp. Students learn a great deal about themselves and others on camp and enjoy the additional responsibilities that are involved. I am sure that they will have some interesting stories to share on their return.
SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

Our next meeting is scheduled for 7.00pm this Tuesday 27 October in the staffroom. All parents are welcome to join us.
SKYLINE RESTAURANT Today the Skyline restaurant opened its doors to great anticipation! The Spanish cuisine served was certainly every bit as tasty as the aromas wafting around the quadrangle suggested. The students from TA 6 assisted with all aspects of service and food preparation under the guidance of parent Jason Smith, Mr Sturmer and pre-service teacher Mrs Vanderbroeck. Thank you to those parents and family members who were able to come along and support our students. A special thank you to Jason Smith for volunteering his time and culinary expertise - fantastic! See inside this newsletter for further details. P&C NEWS - CANTEEN COORDINATOR Our school P&C is still on the lookout for a volunteer to help in our school canteen. The canteen coordinator's role is to basically assist the canteen manager with some of the additional jobs directly related to the canteen. On the last day of term, TA 8 students put on a remarkable high tea for family guests. This authentic task included lessons on nutrition, table manners, many maths and English activities not to mention an abundance of fun. The guests were treated to zucchini slice, mixed sandwiches, chocolate coated strawberries and scones professionally prepared and served by an amazing staff. The high tea raised $116 in profits which was donated to Princess Margaret Hospital. This event was a credit to the students who organised everything superbly. John May has very kindly prepared a very professional book of photos of this splendid occasion and parents are able to arrange an evening to take the book home to peruse by contacting Mrs Winterton. TA 8 would like to thank Mrs Buswell and all families for their support and generosity on this splendid occasion.

For five weeks during Term 3, students in TA 7 & TA 8 had the opportunity to watch an artist at work
during their art lessons as part of the Edith Cowan University AiR Program.
Zoe-Lee Wilkins, an Art graduate and current Art Education (Dip Ed) student at ECU, worked with
selected students to brighten up
the green rubbish bins around the
school.
The classes decided on the
recycling theme, they drew designs
around this and set Ms Wilkins the
task of creating a superhero
character to complement these
designs.
The quirky, engaging character and
the bright colour scheme, including
fluorescent colours, make the bins
more visible and encourage the
students to use them more often.
A big thank you to Ms Wilkins for
her time and expertise.
