QXF Coil CMM measurements at LBNL 2
Cross Section Measurement Locations
6/11/2015
• Same axial locations as being performed at BNL– With the addition of one more measurement
location at 742.24 mm (29.22”) for the SG location

CMM Measurements
6/11/2015
• LBNL uses Zeiss Accura for CMM, using built-in Calypso for post-processing – But we have not been able to weight different surfaces for alignment– All surfaces “best-fit” to reference geometry with equal weight

Post-processing Comparisons
6/11/2015
• Prior to identification of the asymmetry issue, all HQ magnets were built using data processed by the Calypso software for overall coil size
• LBNL now has the ability to post-process, with weighting, with both Polyworks and Spatial Analyzer
• We are performing an apples-to-apples comparison– BNL Coil measurement data (Faro Arm)– LBNL (Zeiss) measurement data, processed with:
• Calypso (for historical comparison)• SA (for comparison with BNL processing)• Polyworks (additional process check)

Fitting the profiles
6/11/2015
• Two methods per cross section:– “Global” best fit
• Objective is to compare with prior Zeiss/Calypso post processing
– “Weighted” best fit• Objective: to compare
with BNL data and to determine coil asymmetry
Global:Midplanes + OD + Alignment Key
Weighted:OD + Alignment Key

Status
6/11/2015
• Data is being processed on a few cross sections before applying to the rest of the cross sections and coils
• All four coils will have to be measured again next week, since axial locations of cross sections did not match those made by BNL
