Music For Dance Two CD Reviews There have not been very many new CD releases recently but here we have two from WRD Worldwide Music Ltd. They will both bring immense pleasure to Ballroom and Latin music enthusiasts. Reviewing CDs can sometimes be a little difficult, for music is such an individual experience. Fortunately with music supplied for dancers, and in particular designed to appeal to the worldʼs best dancers, people closely involved can appreciate and more easily evaluate what is on offer. With these two double CDs I found serious difficulty in trying to use praiseworthy words that would not be considered “over the top” so let me just make the statement that, in my opinion, both of them are probably the very best of the series. Without question I found very many of the tracks quite superb. The selection of music and the artists, the mixing of the music, balancing of the sounds and instruments, the subtle adjustment of the tempo, all were outstanding. The trick of bringing together fabulous music is combining old favourites with recordings that may not be as familiar even when the title is perhaps very well known to you. THE ULTIMATE LATIN ALBUM 11 “She Was The One” WR2CD 5057. CD1 has ten Cha Cha Chas; all are tremendous with absolutely clear rhythm and such tempting orchestrations. The 10 Samba tracks bring such an invitation to try to show in the dance performance the 3/4 - 1/4 - 1 fundamental rhythm of the dance. All dancers will enjoy the challenge presented by this fantastic music. CD2 has 10 inviting Rumbas with the tempo between 23 and 26 bars per Minute. The two Paso Dobles offer the demonstrator or Showdance Choreographer an opportunity but both will not be too useful for the DJ with competitions in mind. The eight Jives finish off the two hours and sixteen minutes of fabulous dance music in superb style, all of them so full of life and joy. THE ULTIMATE BALLROOM ALBUM 13 “ALL OR NOTHING AT ALL” WR2CD 5058 I thought staggering in the value it offers. CD 1 has ten of the finest Foxtrots collections produced in this successful series. They were mind-blowing! The DPA South Dinner Dance
The Dance Promotersʼ Association South held their annual Dinner Dance in the TylneyBallroom in the Leatherhead Leisure Centre. On arrival, the guests were greeted by theChairman Derrick Squires accompanied by his wife, Peggy Callaghan, before going into thereception area. After all the guests had arrived, they were shown to their tables and whenseated Derrick thanked everyone for their support and hoped they would enjoy the evening. Anexcellent dinner was served before general dancing got under way to music by Richard Miller,before the DPA Southern Premier League Under 35 Pre-Championship Ballroom Grand Final.Eleven adjudicators were called to the floor, six ladies and five gentlemen, all had given theirservices for free. The competitors took to the floor and the four dance ballroom competitionbegan and we saw some very nice dancing, a great final. More general dancing followed. Raffletickets were sold during the evening and snapped up very quickly as the prizes includedvouchers for dance shoes, vouchers towards dance dresses and menʼs wear, champagne, wineand many more excellent prizes, all very generously donated.

The cabaret was announced and AlexIvanets and Lisa Bellinger-Ivanets gave asuperb Latin demonstration dancing all fivedances. Flowers and wine were presented to Lisaand Alex by Georgina Cairncross, then theywere photographed with Georgina, Derrick andAlan Waite, three members of the committee.
Simon Douglas and Laura Bury won theUnder 35 Pre-Championship competition,runners-up were Paul Dwyer and Becky Davies,Oli Coward and Amanda Unsworth were placedthird and Paul and Rachel Pankhurst werefourth.
Alan presented all the prizes before the lastsession of general dancing. Tombola wasplayed in the reception area during the eveningand was well supported. The evening was a hugesuccess with everyone. A very good meal, ahappy atmos-phere, a nicely danced com-petition,a super cabaret and lovely music. What morecould one ask for?
Derrick spoke before the end, he thankedGeorgina Cairncross, the Secretary, AlanWaite, the Treasurer and the Committee for alltheir hard work and Richard Miller for the lovelymusic played during the evening. He hopedeveryone had enjoyed the evening and wishedevery-one a safe journey home.
