Introduction

ApplicationThe controller is a simple thermostat regulator in which somerefrigeration-technical functions have been integrated so thatit can replace a link-up of a group of thermostats and timers. The controller has been specially designed for refrigerationapplications, but may of course also be used for other formsof regulation where this is expedient.

The controller comes in several versions with a growingnumber of functions - from the simple one with just one relayto more advanced versions with three relays. All versions arefurthermore available with an alarm function. The number ofrelays will then be increased by one.

The relays are used for controlling:- compressor- fan- defrost- alarm

One of the connections to the controller is a digital input. Thisinput will register the position of a connected switch anddepending on the functions you want to use, it will work, asfollows:- activate a door alarm if the door remains open for longer

than allowed- start a defrost- or transmit the signal to the data communication

Advantages• One electronic controller is able to replace several tradi-

tional controllers and defrost clocks

• Can be supplied for panel as well as DIN-rail mounting

• Temperatures, times, operating conditions, parametercodes and alarm and fault codes can be read from thedisplay

• Three LEDs indicate the actual condition of the system:- refrigeration- defrost- fan running

• Easy to re-establish factory setting

• In the event of error function, the actual parameter code canbe displayed

• All alarms are indicated bya the three LEDs fashing at once

• Easy to install data communication at a later date

Accessories

The controller can be extended by one insertion module if theapplication warrants it.The controller comes prepared with plug and terminals, so allyou have to do is to push the module into place.

If you want to change theperiodical defrost, so that it canbe performed at specific times ofthe day, a clock module may befitted.

Up to six defrost cycles per daycan now be set. The module isprovided with battery backup.(Type = EKA 172)

If it is required that operation is totake place from a PC, a datacommunication module must beplaced in the controller. Two types of insertion modulesfor data communication can behad - they are LON modules withFFT10 interface or RS485interface.

ButtonsIf you want to change a setting, the twobuttons will give you a higher or lowervalue depending on which button youpush. But before you can change thevalue, you require access to the menu.

DisplayThe values are displayed with threedigits and by means of a setting youcan decide whether they are to beshown in °C or °F.

Operation

You obtain it by pushing the top buttonfor a couple of seconds -you will thenenter into the row of parameter codes.Find the parameter code you want tochange and then push the two buttonssimultaneously. When you have changed the value, save the new value by pushing the twobuttons simultaneously once more.

Briefly:

Temperature settingIf it is the temperature setting you wantto change, do not enter into the menu.Just push the two buttonssimultaneously, and you will be able tochange the temperature referencewhen the display responds by flashing.

Examples of operations

1) The compressor relay closes when the room temperature exceedsthe setting value and differential.

2) Alarm is released and sensor failure is indicated, if the roomtemperature reaches 5°C or more outside the setting range–60° to +50°C.

3) After start-up and throughout three days and nights this value is used bythe controller. Afterwards the controller is capable by itself to calculatethe average value of previous cut-in times.

4) Function possibilities with SPST contact, connected to theterminals 3 and 4 are the following:Door alarm: If SPST is cut out, alarm signalling starts and the fan isstopped, cf. A04 or F03.Defrost: If SPST is cut in, defrost starts. (However, if d03 is not OFF,defrost will during contact break down start with the programmed timeintervalles).

Data communication

Example

This page contains a description of a few of the extrafunctions you obtain, if the controller is extended with datacommunication.

Each controller is providedwith an insertion module.

The controllers aresubsequently connectedwith a two-core cable.

Up to 60 controllers can beconnected to one cable.

This cable is also connectedto a gateway type AKA 243.

This gateway will nowcontrol the communication toand from the controllers.

It will collect temperaturevalues, and it will receivealarms.

When there is an alarm, thealarm relay will be activatedfor two minutes.

The gateway can now beconnected to a modem.

When there is an alarm fromone of the controllers, thegateway will via the modemcall up the service company.

At the service company amodem, gateway and PCwith system software typeAKM have been installed.

All the controller’s functionscan now be operated fromthe different menu pictures.

The programme will forinstance upload all thecollected temperature valuesonce a day.

• Measurements are shownat one side and settings atthe other.

• You will also be able to seethe parameter names ofthe functions on page 4-8.

• With a simple change-overthe values can also beshown in a trend diagram.

• If you wish to check earliertemperature measure-ments, you can see themin the log collection.

AlarmsIf the controller is extendedwith data communication, itwill be possible to define theimportance of the transmit-ted alarms. The importance is definedwith the setting: 1, 2, 3 or 0.When the alarm then arisesat some time, it will result inone of the following activi-ties:

1 = AlarmThe alarm message is sentoff with alarm status 1. Thismeans that the gateway withaddress 125 in the systemwill have its alarm relayoutput activated for twominutes. Later, when thealarm ceases, the alarm textwill be retransmitted, butnow with status value 0.

2 = MessageThe alarm text is transmittedwith status value 2. Later, when the “message” lapses, the alarm text isretransmitted, but now withstatus value 0.

3 = AlarmAs “1”, but the mastergateway’s relay output is notactivated.

0 = Suppressed informationThe alarm text is stopped atthe controller. It is transmit-ted nowhere.
