DANISH STATE VISIT TO INDONESIA

THE KINGDOM OF DENMARK – ONE OF THE OLDEST MONARCHIES IN THE WORLDDenmark has been a monarchy since 958 AD. Since 1849 Denmark has been a constitutional monarchy. The present head of state HM Queen Margrethe II of The Kingdom of Denmark ascended to the throne on 14 January 1972 succeeding her father HM King Frederik IX.

Rights such as freedom of expression, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly for all citizens were originally verified in the 1849 Constitutional Act.

The political system of Denmark is that of a multi-party structure, where several parties can be represented in Parliament at any one time. Since 28 June 2015, the Government has consisted of the Liberal Party (Venstre) with Lars Løkke Rasmussen as the Prime Minister.

Denmark is an open and globalized economy and has a strong private sector consisting of mainly small and medium-sized enterprises (99 per cent). Denmark is consistently ranked among the best countries in the world for doing business. Trust-worthiness, innovation, quality, global outlook and hard work are words associated with Danish companies. Based in a relatively small country, Danish companies know what it takes to work in partnerships and succeed internationally.

FOREWORD BY HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE PRINCE CONSORTThe visit that the Queen and I pay this year to Indonesia gives us much pleasure and expectation. We undertake this state visit in a historical year that simultaneously marks the 70th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence and 65 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Denmark.

Our visit will take us to Jakarta, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta accompanied by a delegation from the maritime, agri-business and design & lifestyle sectors, as well as urban & cleantech companies.

These sectors have been carefully chosen to match areas to which Indonesia gives a high priority. Opportunities to increase bilateral trade and provide sustainable solutions will be present for the mutual benefit of both countries.

Cooperation to strengthen friendship

This year also marks the strengthening of our cultural partnership. Though our countries are separated by thousands of kilometres, we share cultural traditions that will be explored through several events during the visit, enabling the Indonesian and Danish cultural exchanges to find new interesting ways.

It is my sincere hope that this state visit will contribute to strengthen the friendship between Indonesians and Danes and create a blossoming partnership for many years.

We look forward to visiting this magnificent country and exploring the richness of the culture of Indonesia.

PRINCE CONSORT

FROM BADMINTON TO BUSINESS | A SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP As a significant regional and global actor, Indonesia’s importance will grow in the years ahead.

We are therefore honoured to accompany Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort on their first ever state visit to Indonesia. Our strong political cooper ation, ranging from multilateral collaboration within the United Nations to our mutually rewarding cultural exchanges, is ready to move to the next level.

The potential for strengthening trade and economic ties remains largely untapped despite the immense opportunities for both Indonesia and Denmark. Closer cooperation and collaboration is the obvious answer to many of the challenges that we share despite 11,000 kilometres divide.

With a growing economy and an expanding middle class, Indonesia is facing an increasing demand for energy. As a consequence, the country is aiming for a more sustainable energy system. These challenges call for a holistic approach to energy planning including an increased focus on energy efficiency. A strengthened government-to-government cooper ation aims at bringing Danish experiences, competencies and know-how into play in the Indonesian energy system transition. This will also support commercial opportunities.

We are pleased to be accompanied by a sizeable Danish business delegation within four Danish strongholds. Indonesia and Denmark are famous for our common passion for badminton. However, time has come to expand our partnership also in the area of business.

THE WORLD’S BEST KEPT SECRET?We are proud to welcome Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark and His Royal Highness the Prince Consort on the first ever Danish state visit to the Republic of Indonesia. The visit marks the beginning of a new and strengthened chapter in the Indonesian-Danish partnership.

Despite having the world’s fourth largest population of 250 million, Indonesia has remained a relatively well-kept secret. As the world is increasingly discovering the potential of South East Asia’s largest country, forging closer political and economic ties with Indonesia has become a priority. Stable economic growth, G-20 membership as well as a leadership role in driving the establishment of ASEAN’s Economic Community ensure that the eyes of the world will remain firmly fixed on Indonesia for years to come.

Indonesia has accomplished an impressive transition to full-fledged democracy combined with impressive socio-economic development. Today, Indonesia’s main priority is to secure continued economic growth to address the challenges of the 21st Century. This requires state-of-the-art solutions and innovative international partnerships encompassing both the public and private sector.

As a sign of Indonesia’s position as an increasingly important trading partner, Denmark’s exports to Indonesia grew by a remarkable 34 percent during the first half of 2015. We are therefore enthusiastic to welcome the large Danish business delegation accompanying the Royal Couple. On top of being the single most important event in our 65 year-long friendship, I am confident that the state visit will create new business opportunities to the benefit of Indonesia and Denmark alike.

Selamat Datang di Indonesia! Welcome to Indonesia!

NEW MARKETS, NEW FRONTIERSBy Lars Mikkelgaard-Jensen, Chairman, Confederation of Danish Industry, Karen Hækkerup, CEO, Danish Agriculture & Food Council, Anne H. Steffensen, CEO, Danish Shipowners Association, Jenny Braat, CEO, Danish Maritime and Ulrik Dahl, CEO, Danish Export Association.

In the fast-paced and ever-changing world that we live in, we have seen a change in the economic landscape as emerging economies have increasingly become the catalyst for global economic growth. Once primarily known for their natural resources and source of cheap labour, a sustained economic development and a rising middle class have made Danish companies look at emerging markets in a new way. Indonesia is no exception! As one of the world’s leading emerging economies, the largest economy in South East Asia and as a founding member of ASEAN, Indonesia is not only a key player in the region but an important economy in the world.

Therefore, we are truly pleased that Their Royal Highnesses Her Majesty the Queen of Denmark and The Prince Consort accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kristian Jensen and Minister of Energy, Utilities and Climate, Lars Christian Lilleholt have decided to lead this business delegation to Indonesia from October 21– 24, 2015.

Denmark has not fully explored the Indonesian market. In fact, Indonesia is only Denmark’s 51st largest export market. However, Denmark has a lot to offer. It is our belief that we can provide experience, knowhow and innovative solutions that will benefit the development of Indonesia – not only when it comes to clean energy, agribusiness, food and food technology but also within the maritime sector, design and lifestyle.

It is our hope that the state visit to Indonesia will contribute to the success and further development of the bilateral relationship between our two countries, especially within trade and invest-ments, and we are looking forward to the coming days in Jakarta and Surabaya.

Thank you to the companies for joining this delegation and thank you to everyone, who made this event possible.

The Danish maritime industry is world leading.

Shipping is Denmark’s biggest export industry. More than once every 15 minutes a Danish operated ship arrives or departs a port somewhere in the world, carrying cargo to and from countries and thus creating growth and development. 10 % of the world’s trade is carried by Danish shipowners. Accounting for less than 0,1% of the world’s population, Denmark looks small on the world map. However, when it comes to shipping, Denmark is among the top five of the world’s leading shipping nations.

The Danish maritime technology industry is famous for its quality products and its innovative technological solutions. Almost all large cargo ships worldwide are equipped with Danish marine technology, products or equipment. The industry is dynamic and it comprises a large number of skills within specialized businesses such as shipyards, marine equipment suppliers plus maritime services. Danish maritime manufacturers offer environmental and climate friendly products and solutions, and in many cases these do not only meet with the legal requirements; often they are a step ahead in order to accommodate future demands.

Denmark has decided to lead the green growth transition and is aiming at becoming independent of fossil fuels by 2050, as the first country in the world.

This ambitious goal rests on a solid foundation. Completely dependent on imported oil for decades, Denmark was severely affected by the oil crises in the 1970’ies.

It was then decided to take a new path to meet the growing energy needs and, at the same time, to cater for environmental concerns. As a result, green issues such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, waste and resource management, clean air and water and sustainable cities have become deeply embedded in the Danish mindset.

Time has shown that sustainable economic and environmental policies can indeed go hand in hand. Since 1980, the Danish economy has grown by almost 80 per cent without increasing gross energy consumption. Today, Denmark has grown to become a global leader in the development of new sustainable technologies and solutions applied all over the world.

The Danish energy industry is proud to share its solutions and inspire companies, citizens and regulators in Indonesia and all over the world to invest in green growth.

Danish design has a proud past based on function, simplicity and craftsmanship – known as Danish Modern – and has become a benchmark for furniture and lifestyle designers throughout the world. This strong design tradition is the backbone of the new Danish design wave – known as New Danish Modern – which is spearheading the industry by implementing strong design platforms and is making Copenhagen the design capital of Scandinavia.

The Danish design tradition has also influenced the fashion and jewellery industry: Stringent cuts, form, function and a fresh natural feel from an array of new designers has given the industry a new edge and taken it from strength to strength.

The Danish design and lifestyle industry has always been very export driven. In fact, during the last couple of years more than 60% of the industry’s sales have been generated from exports leading the export of furniture and design to surpass the production value of the industry.

Both furniture and fashion industries have been first movers on green growth and sustainability.

Our passion rattan and know-how dates a long way back

The story of the Company Begins in 1942 when Ankjær Andreasen prodcued the first batch of baskets, lamps, flower tables and other smaller interior items made of rush and Willow. In the 1950’s he expanded his production to include a series of furniture made from rattan, and the Company Sika-Design was firmly established.

The rattan was imported from the Far East and Ankjær travelled there to buy rattan for his wicker makers in Denmark. During a trip in 1972, he was so impressed by the skilled wicker makers that he decided to establish a wicker furniture factory in Malaysia. Since then, the Far East has been essential to our production of furniture, and today we manufacture our furniture in our own factory in Indonesia.
